In the '80s I saw a KZ-1300 six in the service bay of a SoCal dealership. Beyond its sheer size the most remarkable thing about it was how the lower half of its taillight had been scuffed away, as if by road contact during vertical wheelies. The mechanic said it belonged to Doug Domokos, aka "The Wheelie King", and that he used it for shows. OK, now I understand!
Have seen his skills in a motorbike-journal 1981 ... once there was an advertising badge flat under the engine , was seen only during wheelies .. :) Thank you for posting ,, friendly greets from germany
In the early 80's I worked at a Honda/Kawasaki dealership. My daily rider was a 1976 KZ900 I bought new. I thought it was big and fast until I rode the KZ1300. It made my KZ900 feel small and slow. I used to wheelie my KZ900 as fast as it would go topped out in 5th gear. I highly doubt I would ever consider doing such on a KZ1300 being it's so big and heavy. I thought the same thing about my KZ900 at first being I went from an RD350 Yamaha to the KZ900 but after about 3 months riding it and adjusting to it until it felt as natural as my old RD350 I started to wheelie it too. It was a huge thrill, made the adrenaline flow every time.
Crazy guy. Amazing stunts. His clog-stunt is one of the best. Watch the speed, crazy. I have seen him 20 years ago in Paderborn. Since this time my talisman at the bike key ring is a little part of his killed tail light :-) Until now, it works-no tail light probs:-)
