Hey Patrick, I'm a Sri Lankan singer currently residing in Texas. As a beginner, I've recently embarked on my sound engineering journey, starting with the purchase of a budget condenser mic and an old sound interface that I acquired from a friend. I came across your video about the Akai Mini Play 3 and the Arturia MiniLab 3 Midi Keyboard and, based on the features you highlighted for the Arturia MiniLab 3 Midi Keyboard, I've decided to opt for it. Though I haven't made the purchase yet, I'm looking forward to acquiring it, as it seems like the best choice for me, especially since I plan to use Logic Pro as my preferred software for sound engineering. I've just subscribed to your channel and would like to express my gratitude for your amazing content, which greatly aids students like me who are interested in sound engineering and eager to learn more and develop further..
Liked how straight to the point your opinion was on the keyboard, kudos to you. I got started with music production via playlist classes of taetro. Would love to have this one keyboard as the built quality is rock solid and comes with dope virtual instruments.
I’ve been playing piano since I was 7 and I am really surprised how long it took me to start learning about MIDI. I’m considering returning to school to learn more. Really helpful product review, thank you!!
Thank you for this vid. I hope the Mk3 is still to "win". It seemed to be the perfect music maschine for my 10y old son. He learned to play the piano seriously two years ago. Gave the thumbs up and subsribbed. Cheers
Great first name! 😁😁I'm mostly a bass player, but the MiniLab mk2 (and your video on it) was kind of my gateway...controller into software and hardware synths. Fast-forward several years, and now I've got an IK Multimedia Uno Synth Pro, a Korg Opsix, Moog's fantastic Mini Moog app for my iPad, and nearly every virtual synth that Cherry Audio has released...And I think the MiniLab mk3 would be a fantastic controller for my live setup, with the sliders, MIDI out port, and to be able to plug an expression pedal into the "Control" jack. CHEF'S. KISS.
Before this keyboard came out I wouldn’t have said this is the best budget midi keyboard. I would have answered with the Akai or maybe the Oxygen Pro Mini. The only reason for that was because The MkII had features that were missing because it was an older keyboard. But now that they updated it with those missing features. It might be one of the best to get rn
Ive been looking at the akai mpk mk3 for a while and never pulled the trigger looking back grateful I didn't because this thang got the form factor and just that modern vintage vibe...love it!
this would be cool to get me started making music! I bought a kinda janky keyboard like a year or 2 ago, but I've always wanted an arturia one cause I love all the features. thanks for the review, I've been on the lookout for a keyboard like this for a while now!
Great news! My MiniLab Mk2 has been working with errors lately and I've been looking for a new portable midi keyboard and just nothing made me wanna buy it... Now i see the MiniLab 3 in your video and I am like "thats the one"! hahaha PS: do you also have a problem with that white color getting dirty at times and is a bit hard to clean? or its just me?
The 16 encoder knobs on the mk2 made it a badass keyboard controller. Literally, those 16 encoders are sick. Not thrilled about the faders on the mk3. With the portability of this keyboard, I can just imagine those fader caps getting loose, bent or damaged over time in someone’s bag/backpack.
Yeah they killed it with this design. Familiar, but new at the same time. I really think they tried to give us everything we wanted. You LOVE to see it. Thanks for your comment my friend!
Faders! Finally! Tbh I don't like the colors of the knobs because they blend too much with the keyboard, and it's going to be annoying to use it live, but with the faders, it is going to be easy to use this with backing tracks for our band, to just assign the faders on ableton live. And lastly, that MIDI out is what I've always been looking for on an all-in-one small midi controller, definitely a smart move by Arturia.
Honestly, it's really good! I'm a creature of habit, I guess, so my honest first impression was "well, this probably isn't going to replace my Minilab mkii..." but the more I've been using it, I really really like this keyboard. If you use Arturia's software instruments, then this keyboard is a no-brainer.
Great presentation Patrick. I've bought the MiniLab3 to start exploring electronic music (I'm an acoustic guitar player) and while I'm enjoying tinkering with Analog Lab on my Mac, I'd love to get portable and use it with my iPad as well. There's a jungle with apps and, since I'm a novice, I'm totally lost. Could anyone recommend a bundle of some kind with basics of everything, like synths, drum machine, anything resemblant of Spitfire Audio plugins that I'm already using on the Mac (but just started there as well..)? Thanks a bunch!
i love arturia, they make good products for people who does not have a big budget, i recently just got the minifuse 1 audio interface and its so good, big hugs from venezuela, i hope to win this minilab 3
Hi Patrick, Just found this, nice review. How much compatibility/control does this have in Garageband? Can you control track volume, pan, transport controls, etc? Also, does the Analog Lab plugin work in GB? I can't seem to find definitive info on these anywhere online! Thanks!
@@PatrickBreenMusic thanks 👍 for replying. You were given good reviews so I like to watch your channel. And one thing can do the video of how to make loops on the songs and making of songs.
I wasn’t concerned at all about aesthetics, I knew Arturia would deliver in that department. I guess this was expected for so long, that the expectation was big. Of course no device will check all the boxes. I’m not implying that I think this device is not good, I’m confirming My problem was that I wanted/expected so much more, but that’s not really necessary, is it? Sequencer capabilities, more arpeggiator options, maybe 37 keys, more faders, more pads… stop! That’s why key labs and keysteps are for, this is miniLab, compact, with a lot of options to help build, design, play, and create sound in small spaces, on the go, or with easy simple access on the desk, and it seems it delivers in a great way with all the vision and quality that Arturia always stands for. For sure a nice updated device that’s growing in me. Well done! …maybe… just maybe a cv gate… maybe on mk4. Hehe.
Excited for the minilab 2 vs minilab 3 comparison. I've been waiting to buy the minilab 2 for the longest time. The minilab 3 looks sweet! Excited to use them to start learning to compose music
Looks awesome! Love the new design inspired by some of their other devices like the keystep pro. I'd absolutely love to enter to win, not for me but for a friend - she's a guitar/bass player and has been wanting to get into production, I think this would be the perfect companion!! Good luck to everyone else as well
let me get this straight, can you connect your ipad directly to this with the usb-c jack and use it as a controller for apps like Koala or do i still need the extra stuff like irig, ipad camera kit whatever?
Never played any instrument before and I'm onsidering the Mini Lab 3 as my first midi device. Was planning on just using a Windows PC but I've heard that the lag can be distracting. Would you recommend an inexpensive but capable hardware synth to pair with this?
I have been looking forward to this getting released! I've started building out a little home studio, and I am looking forward to adding this for DAW control, and to be able to play some keys not on a QWERTY keyboard!
Yeah they really hit a home run! I'm gonna post a video comparing this to MPK mini mk3, so keep an eye out for that. Those are my two favs at the moment.
The expression pedal socket seems like a great addidition.. Very useful for guitarists.. No other product has it at that budget.. I may get it just for that..
I'm super excited for this -- I was super surprised that this dropped and I'm considering maybe trading in my mk2 for the mk3...but I think I'll watch your comparison video first. 😂
I am curious about this product as i want to just use something like this to replace my dead Korg MicroX, while integrating my guitar music and use something like this to fill out the rest. I am an absolute beginner with any recording software though so i am divided on if this is a fit or not.
can you please tell me the exact weight of this? I have the mk2 and weight is my concern as i travel alot. if you can tell me the precise weight then it will be great. official website says both mk2 and mk3 are 1.5kg.
