Hi John! I am a beginner and I really can't decide between the Novation Launchkey Mini MK3 and the Arturia Minilab MK2. I see many reviewers preferring the Novation and I get why (it's much newer and has better functionalities), however the materials look pretty cheap compared to the Minilab. I need a small keyboard to start, not necessarily to bring in my bag. I need good sounds, good feeling and I am going to mainly use Ableton since I am trying to learn using it. Being an absolute beginner, which one do you think would be better? I just don't want to make the wrong choice. And I would do this purchase with an eye to the future, considering further upgrades when I'll get better. Please, let me know which one you think would be better, considering they have the same price! Thank you!

I understand..it’s definitely a hard choice because these are both really solid boards...I would say if having good sounds is a high priority on your list then you should go with the arturia...it’s a more solid build...and comes with a crap ton of sounds plus Ableton

@@rammyswavesandhairlinesuck7071 tbh I think the launchkey would be better for production if you use ableton since it integrates really well, but the Minilab has the best keybed I know of in this factor. I have got the Minilab and I didn't regret it

So nearly a year and a half on. These two are probably still the best two on the market. I just want to make beats and EDM, just for me, no aspirations. I have only GarageBand right now, but will use what ever software comes along. Where I live the Arturia is $35 cheaper. Any suggestions.

I like them both, but since I already have the full version of Analog Lab 4 and Pigments, I may get the MiniLab MKII. If I had a head start with the Novation software, it would be easier to go with the Launchkey Mini NMKIII. Honestly I wish my Motif's remote control mode worked better, but it's almost 20 years old now, and it's control surface is outdated. I'll still use it for tthe keyboard, and it's synth and presets, but just want something for better control over both Analog Labs and Ableton without having to go to the mouse. Also, another important thing to consider, are the endless knobs on the MiniLab, in my experience the knobs with start and stop (and sliders) when first used with an instrument, will force the software to sync with the knob causing a rather jolting change in the sound, not partivularly nice when playing live, while the endless knobs will continue from where the software is.

I may still get a Novation LaunchPad MKII as well, though, because the 8x8 grid of pads is the best for Ableton Live.

Hard choice...they both are really good...I’d say if you want more sounds go with the Arturia...

Arturia kills it but I own the NI Komplete Kontrol S49mkII along with Akai Force I needed a travel Controller Arturia Kills it I don't won't with Ableton I have the Full version on Analog Keylab Full mk11 and trust me even the lite Aturia software is worth more then both of these controllers ! If you have a small studio need midi out get the novation I don't need that as my Other Gear has it! Both will get the Job done Arturia is just way more Pro built!

For someone with 0 experience, which would u recommend between the Arturia minilab MKII or Novation launchkey mini mk2? I’ve heard that the knobs on Arturia aren’t that accurate. Portability isn’t really a concern for me as I’ll be mainly just sitting home once I get started

If you are planning on using Ableton...get the Launchkey it will make life easier...if you want Ableton plus a lot of really great sounds...get the arturia

Hey John, awesome comparison! I'm an absolute beginner and plan on buying one of these two bad boys. I'm not a pianist and am a complete noob. I'm not going to be transporting these and am only looking for ease of use. I'll only be using PreSonus and Able to live lite cause they're what I have and an eyeing the Launchkey mini because of it's arpeggio and chord functions, though I like the Arturia for it's build quality since I'm not going to be transporting these. I'm a guitarist, so which one do you think would work out better for me? Peace and keep up the good work. Love from India!

Thank you so much for the comparision. I tested both at my local store and I can tell, that I liked the keys of the novation better as well. But I was very irritated of other people telling the arturia was better. thanks for pointing out the benefits of novation!

Hey there!, I looking to get one of these for a gift for my brother he mainly uses fl studios, which one of these would work best with that daw, I'm sure he plans to take this around because he talks about making music at school in his free time I felt the launchkey would be good but I don't feel he's interested in Ableton, any help would be greatly appreciated! I would suggest the Arturia Mini lab because the Novation is made to work with Ableton Live

Yup visually it does...but it could be the spacing between the keys and the width of the keys...It just feels a bit tighter...but as I stated in the vid...I have big hands so the experience will be different for everyone

Hey John... I am a beginner and work on FL studio .. Which one is the best midi for me..(I can play piano)... Both of these go for the same price here and the akai is $15 cheaper... Which should I get Edit:I may go for the novation.. Anyways I am tight on budget of under $100

Novation over that minilab all-day! Plus the encoders on minilab aren't accurate and not precise when turning slowly in software.

I own Arturia MiniLab and it is totally useless when it comes to usage in combination with iPad since their shitty software is only for MacOS and Windows. No mapping through the iPad except the app you are using offers Midi Learn. I‘m going to get the Novation LaunchKey MK 3 specially for outside and the iPad.

Baz Tatum Launchkey works with the iPad specially with Ampify‘s Groovebox App as Plug & Play. Groovebox is my main tool on the iPad. You can not use any Arturia Sound on the iPad. They just sleep. Rey deep when it come to the iPad.
