Thats what i was thinking too. like if they did do a reboot live action rendition of the character Snk designs would most likely would be concepts be picked.
stadium king32 Actually no it doesn’t when you consider NONE of it shows any understanding of pose, gesture, or even physics. One can like Shinkiros work just fine if you’re just looking for basic well rendered stuff. But past that, almost all of his figure work is stiff as a board. Capcom’s rendition of practically ALL of the characters look like fighters. What’s bad about this is that Shinkiro actually HAS done much better stuff. But all SNK ever seemed to want to do with him is draw all their characters like they’re on a runway modeling clothes.
Tarun Johal Dude shut up. It's just his opinion. Don't slander someone because their opinion differs from yours. The world would be boring if every single being shared the same view on things. Damn, people can't take fair criticism nowadays. smh Anyway both artstyles are beautiful and iconic.
Personally, I'ved always loved Shinkiros realistic ,yet somewhat Computerized approach to artwork. His Tatsunoko Vs Capcom artwork onwards style is cool as well, but his 90s SNK and Early 2000s Capcom work will always seem more attractive to me.
@@o_oro-q1k iirc, this was capcom vs snk where capcom would do illustration on snk characters while snk does capcom characters. personally i think capcom murdered snk's characters. but not as bad as snk playmore did.
@@TomatoTomato911 actually I’m pretty sure that Capcom did the SNK style art for their own characters trying to imitate Shinkiro’s artstyle. So Ryu in both Capcom and SNK art was done in Capcom.
Although I agree with you when it comes to personality portrayal I find SNK's art style cooler. Probably because the body proportions are more realistic.
2:09 SNK's representation of shin akuma is just so funny to me, Capcom's one is saying "uhh i will destroy you" while SNK's says "YEAH BITCH I'M A GOD NOW!"
Fabio ZoeiraBR it could also be the fact that they are going for more “realistic” poses I suppose like something that would just be a shot of them pre-battle since it’s more of a realistic style
LOL That realistic style works for more human characters but just looks strange for Blanka and even Bison. I would love someone who could blend realism and expression. Animated style vs Illustration style. Love em both
I like both for different reasons, capcoms feel very expressive and cartoony, whereas SNK look more realistic but still convey the characters well. (Also I think a lot of the boys look cuter, I'm a simple woman)
I like the way they capture two sides of the characters. Mai's both having a blast as an exhibitionist trying to get a reaction for her own entertainment (it's great to see her mischevious side through the female gaze, instead of male artists being oblivious voyeurs, or accidentally breaking her spine with heavy jello blobs), while her SNK side shows a jaded veteran fighter who isn't impressed, but isn't overconfident either. Rock's so innocent and in over his head, through Nishimura's expressive line work - even though he's a natural fighter. While the SNK art shows us Geese's son with a more neutral guarded expression. Expecting a fight even in a moment of peace. And you wonder if that's his internal self vs. external?
check out sf2 artbooks which contain all illustrations from sf1 to modern sf. the style was closer to snk before they moved to a more complex and messy muddy style.
Capcom art is fluid and vibrant geared to be more anime style. SNK art is more traditional and more detailed, geared to have a realistic look. I really love both aspects.
still my favorite illustrator. while cgi has made more realistic illustrations shinkiro has his unique pseudo realistic style that no one can match. not just the drawing but also coloring.
The whole point of cartoons is to enhance character expression. So Capcom's style will always be an extreme expression of character. Meanwhile SNK will always be on the Korean anime or realistic side and convey a more functional realistic representation of the characters. Also SNK poses are literally done like photoshoots in a competition. While Capcom poses are mid action or starting poses to an actual fight.
@@vasqueos "Anyone who doesn't suck off SNK sucks off capcom instead" SNK's art is good. However it's crappy in conveying emotion and feel. Literally Soul vs Soulless
Kinu Nishimura and Shinkiro both nailed the artwork on the whole. Capcom has some dynamic poses that embody the character, but some of the SNK faces range from unbelievably pretty (many of the females) to downright funny. I loved them back then and I love them now.
In general I’m like “I love both”. Each artist brings out a different side to each character. I do think Nishimura has the edge for the more fantastical characters while Shinkiro has the same for the heavily grounded ones, but even then there are exceptions.(Shinkiro’s Blanka is just super endearing to me). Damn but the both of them know how to draw Benimaru and Vega though...
THey both have loads of personality, Capcom's is just more overt. There is tons of personality in the SNK though, from the subtle color tones used in the color palette, to the life like palpable expression of their faces. While Capcom's might be more in-your-face, never the less, Snk's expression is incredibly present
Man I love SNK/Shinkiro's semi-realistic art. Reminds me of those handpainted classic movie posters from the 1980's. It's just so nostalgic and charming. Kinu Nishimura style is a lot more modern, has more expressive poses and maybe evokes the fighting game feel a bit better though. Anime styles from this era (80's-late 90's) are definitely something.
Ah yes, those pose make a sharp icon for characters with modern style, can't believe these arts are over decades. Beside that, I think Shinkiro arts quality are abit... unstable. It feels like he put more efforts on some characters then others.
Capcom: let me make a different artwork for every character. SNK: *looks at evil ryu* , okay lets just take the one we made for Ryu, flip him horizonatally, and change his skin color and clothes color and slightly change the facial expression.
Both styles are great but I much prefer Capcoms art style. It’s more dynamic expressions and poses unlike SNK that goes for a static photo realistic style and normal poses.
Dio Brandon that's exactly my oppinion, in snk art I can't see any traits from the characters personality, they all look like posing for a photo shoot...
Uhm... You're wrong. I don't prefer Capcom's art because I prefer Capcom over SNK; I prefer Capcom's art because I prefer Capcom's art. Capcom's Zangief isn't afraid, what are you talking about? Sure, his expression can be interpreted in different ways, but the point is that Zangief has always been this huge Russian wrestler who wrestled bears and could throw people many meters up into the air before sending them down again with full force. Look at how veiny and huge, almost deformed, Zangief looks in Capcom's artwork because of his muscles. He looks scary, but that's probably intentional, because fighting him is a scary experience. SNK's art is something I'd expect from a video game, but Capcom's art is something I'd expect from like a comic book or an animated movie, and that artistic flair that Capcom has appeals to me way more than a photoshoot of the same guy wearing different costumes and wigs. And if you want to make comparisons, fine, I'll bite. Look at Dhalsim. He's a mysterious character with a very unorthodox fighting style. You can easily tell that from Capcom's depiction of him and the way his pose has a lot of curves and bends, but SNK made him look like an MMA fighter, and his pose is quite frankly the most uninspired and generic I have seen in forever.
Goliath Online I like both styles, but I enjoy capcom’s approach more here for the same reason as the OP. I hope you realize your description of those two characters is the same description for the rest of the cast as SNK drew them? Standing there and smiling or standing confidently. Kind of defeating your point. Let’s do a small experiment. Imagine all of SNK’s character art here as silhouettes. Line them up side by side. Do you think you could tell the difference? Do the same for Capcom now. I believe Capcom’s art would be significantly easier to identify even as a silhouette because the poses are varied and have personalities. Hopefully you see my point.
Dio Brandon I agree with you 100% except I’d say Capcom’s art is more detailed than SNKs. Just look at those muscles, veins and clothing folds. Bootiful.
For me the best snk artwork shown here is sakura's it just conveys such a cute aura and it just reminds me of old model magazines with their big smiles
SNK's artwork looks very samey for this game, while Capcom's shows a much better grasp of what the characters stand for and does a much better job of showcasing their key personality traits for people unfamiliar with said characters.
Explain to me how I am in any way wrong in my assessment. I don't see any argument of any substance in your, just a bit about eye doctors. Elaborate. Clearly you're interested enough to spend time on this discussion since you took the time to reply to my comment.
@@marcotren you need to learn marketing son , over sexualizing things is some of marketing technique , they need to sell the game. Say what you like but human is sometimes simple as rock.
@Mark Grossi i agree, the over the top posses does add more personality to the characters and gives you more of an idea of what the character is on first glance. This is really important when designing characters. The Snk feel more down to earth but both are good in their own right.
I think it's ironic how anime artstyles are usually criticized for characters looking too similar (which they can) yet in this case the "realistic" versions of all these characters feel more copy pasted.
@@shubhamjuvatkar4023 It's true, Capcom's version looks like a zombie and it looks very cool. But I prefer the psycho xD. Although I love the Capcom version of evil ryu too
That’s... what the Riot blood state is, a state of insanity, blind rage yet also pure sadism for some like Iori, which makes his SNK art... Kinda better looking, Blanka wise, Shinkiro um... kinda did the best he can and in all of his appearances? This is probably the best he’ll ever have
I’ll give you my worst pics on both sides. Worst for Capcom was Kyo, too anorexic. Worst on SNK’s side, Blanka. Zangief was close, but man, I don’t think I needed to see realistic Blanka. Otherwise art between the two were interesting, nice to see how two companies translate the other’s characters.
I love both, my only gripe with the snk art is it looks like everyone had the same head lol. Also as odd as this will sound, snk draws white characters really well. Asian characters look off. The exception being todo. You also can't ignore the attention to detail in muscle structure snk puts in.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon not the art style, the stance and emotion the characters portray. Just standing their is what I get from the snk side while I see emotion and character from the capcom side.
@@BamBam_TYM There is tons of personality in the SNK, from the subtle color tones used in the color palette, to the life like palpable expression of their faces. While Capcom's might be more overt, make no mistake Snk's expression is incredibly present
chillincello calling the the colors subtle is a bit of a stretch. And the faces they’re making aren’t very expressive compared to the capom side how ever they are more realistic. Just look at cammys, you learn more about her from capcoms. Her pose makes her look like a soldier for some nazis, which she practically is, and her tucked fist makes her look like a Marshall artist, like Taekwondo. The snk side his some stripper looking lady with fire hydrant hands looking off screen. She doesn’t even look muscular, she looks straight up like a stripper. At least the capcom side gives her muscles and a fighting stance to try and fix that.
Capcom for the win. They actually look like fighters. Snk does look real but not the best looking. They look like ordinary everyday ppl. I want fighters not the normal shit.
All of the SNK character drawings look like siblings. The Capcom ones look like they were drawn with dirty paint on paper that was balled up then smoothed out.
