I love my Wiim Mini. One of the reasons I bought it was of it's versatility and your original video. Being able to use it as a hockey puck is a huge plus! LOL
It looks like you live in a fantastic place. I’d love being near water. You did a great job winging it. I have several versions of WiiM. I also bought a Cambridge MXN10 because it was heavily discounted on an open box. The Cambridge software doesn’t come close to WiiM and it’s remote-less. Now WiiM now has room correction. But, it does have a clarity on vocals like harmonies that the WiiM doesn’t have.
@@ryanmccann2539 I can actually say vocal harmonies with the MXN10 are less smeared. I was surprised. I was listening to “The Band”. I could hear the 3 voices very clearly with the Cambridge. I hope this helps.
Fun review, thanks! Funny, I'm back logged on products as well - I wonder if my wife would be annoyed if I try to review a product on our anniversary trip next weekend? Lol. It actually looks like a fun challenge!
You said it only supports Airplay 1 as if it was a downside; Airplay 1 is 16/44 mostly lossless (720-1000 Kbps), while Airplay 2 is 16/44 lossy (256 Kbps)
You are correct, AirPlay 2 benefits are primarily usability and compatibility improvements that make it more of a seamless integration across devices. There has been talks of improvements to Airplay2 but I have no details beyond that.
If you don't like it will it end up in the river? I think it's great to change things up a bit, and hopefully less work. Still just as informative and enjoyable. Thanks for all the hard work you do and I look forward to more.
Hey Chris, still plan to do the more detailed and rehearsed videos as well but yes, mix these in to get a few more products out the door. Wouldn't that be a sight, end each video with keeping it or throwing it in the river ha, some of the companies who want these back might object.
Matt: There are comments about Airplay 1 vs 2. How about an episode where you talk about this. I believe that many people think that Airplay 2 offers better audio quality, but in many cases this is not true. It offers the ability to stream to multiple endpoints but in many cases your audio source is downgraded to regular AAC to accomplish this.
Great fast review. I like the format. The Arylic S10+ uses LinkPlay streaming (like WiiM). Do you know if the WiiM Home App sees and can sync with the S10+ (and visa/versa?) It would be nice if you can combine the systems for multi-room.
I know AirPlay isn’t the deciding factor for everyone but i find it curious that this, Eversolo and Rose all implement only AirPlay 1. The exception had been WiiM, which supported AirPlay 2… until the last few weeks when they pulled support altogether (including from the forthcoming Ultra). When I heard this rumor I contacted them directly and they confirmed. I can’t help but think this has more to do with Apple than these companies, but for some of us this freezes us out of these products.
Did WiiM pull AirPlay 2? I see it referenced in their product pages, that’s really interesting. I actually just received an email from their marketing about a demo unit for the Ultra so I will look into it.
@@MattCoykendall1 Please do. I was looking forward to purchasing that. I saw a random post about it two weeks ago on the Steve Hoffman forum. I was still within the return period for a Pro Plus. Since AirPlay 2 is key to my own use case I was concerned enough to email them. I assumed it was some typical hyperbole but opted to write them anyway just to be sure. I did a double take when they confirmed it. I followed up asking about the Ultra and they confirmed. They offered a DLNA workaround and they offered to whitelist. They also mentioned a since-closed refund option they claim they announced. I’m not one to review (or review bomb) but with that feature so prominent in all their marketing and on their packaging, I felt compelled to write about it briefly on Amazon. I doubt it’ll get seen much… but they saw it and offered me a refund. I didn’t respond since I returned mine already. For me what’s dismaying is that it’s simply pulled with a snap of the finger. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy decision but for some of us that may as well be bricking the device. Apple makes it difficult for everyone but for me this is a red flag. I wound up buying a (pricy) NAD M10 v2 and passing on the old school amp I was going to use with the WiiM. At least I know they won’t pull the feature.
I’m not sure that people interested in the audiophile realm of things even care about any of the wireless based connectivity protocols. I’d rather they not include any of them. It just adds to the cost for something I know I will never use.
Hmmm. I use AirPlay on my bedroom system’s Mini/Modi3 setup when I’m in the mood to hear some classic rock curated by one of their legendary DJ’s on XM’s app EDIT. Don’t quite understand the Redit thread, but may just be AirPlay to Home Pod thing. Hard to follow because of all the bozo comments. Also as I type this I’m listening to XM’s app on AirPlay
