“Discernment, my brothers and sisters. Discernment. That is all I can say. . . Only a superficial and reactionary analysis of our work would come to the conclusion that we “support” the world and worldly leaders. I made that video about voting not in order to support anyone or even to tell people to vote, but to help people gain the criteria in which to navigate and judge - for themselves. To gain discernment one has to have experience but also criteria." - Fr Peter Heers

I'm not Orthodox but am a different denomination. I have great respect for the Orthodox faith. My BF left a former communist country and brought her orthodox faith with her to the USA. I felt it my duty to understand her faith as orthodoxy isn't very popular in my part of the country. I agree with all of your statements regarding how to vote. The Agenda of the D party is one of abortion, lgbtq, legalizing drugs, restricting religious freedom and the list goes on. I could not agree more with this video. I'm so thankful that you put this out here for the country to see. I love the USA and would love to see the morality and respect of religion return. God bless you and the USA. We need all of the prayers we can get right now.❤️🇺🇸

@@aspenenglish4976 Sigh. It’s not easy. My sister is now convinced of Orthodoxy, and can no longer stand the Novis Ordo mass we we raised in. Her husband is... ...unexpectedly shallow about it in the sense that he almost doesn’t care about the theological particulars as long as it’s not too overtly strange to him. He doesn’t mind becoming Western Orthodox but DOES mind, very much, defaulting to an Eastern Orthodox parish when getting to a Western Rite parish is too difficult. They have six kids, three with special needs, and the thought of getting up early enough to drive them to Denver every Sunday from Colorado Springs to get to the nearest Western Rite parish feels like a sysiphian task for them, yet simply defaulting to a local Byzantine parish, which my sister is willing to do, going there seems to make him feel like he’s on Mars without a spacesuit, from what I’ve observed in him. It’s not the theology, it’s the CULTURE. He doesn’t hate it, per se, he’s just overwhelmed by the strangeness of a service not steeped in the Western tradition. He was the same with Uniate services before their disillusionment with Rome. He’s a very simple soul in that sense. Me, I love BOTH and am comfortable with the Greeks when I can’t make it myself, although I am committed to supporting the Western tradition in Orthodoxy to the best of my ability. I was originally hoping they would get Chrismated Western, go to Denver once a month and to the Greek parish the rest of the time, similar to my and our mother’s example. But her husband, he just CANNOT for some reason. His hang up and their logistics have put my nieces and nephews in a dangerously awkward position in their spiritual development. My sister had been teaching them traditional Catholicism very well until two years ago when my own disillusionment with Modernist Rome finally led me to AINCENT Orthodox Rome and Antioch trickled over to her. I call it Swimming Up the Tiber, to where the water is still clean. So he doesn’t want to attend Greek services, and they cannot manage to attend Western services in Denver on even a monthly basis. So now they are contemplating dabbling in a non-denominational church at least so her kids get some spiritual guidance and then attend Western rite every other month. This situation has me twisted up inside. Please pray for her children.

Good Father thank you for this lecture, it rings true as rain. The words you spoke are as pertinent today as the day you first offered them. All one needs to do is open their eyes and look at the ineptness instilled. As an Orthodox Christian I can not wrap my head around what I’m seeing unfurl before my eyes. My mother escaped DDR in 1958, her words as to what she sees today in the USA are beyond prophetic, she says, “ All these promises, all these words..... I’ve heard them all before. They were lies then, they’re lies now. America better wake up.” This from a woman who survived WW 2 Berlin, and the Soviet Hammer of the DDR. Sadly America has devolved into a country of secular piety, people prefer worshiping in a selfish man-centric fashion, this will lead to the doom and downfall of what was once a great nation. “If there is no God, all things are permissible.” - Dostoevsky All one needs to do is take a good look around. Here is the irony. Some Republicans oppose abortion. Democrats agree to it with restrictions. But the rate of abortions is lower under Democratic administrations than under Republican administrations. Democratic administrations reduce abortion rates, even though they don't oppose abortion. Why? Because a significant number of abortions take place because women are abused, isolated, abandoned, economically disadvantaged and believe they have no other option. Correct these problems and abortion rates go WAY down. Ignore them as Republicans do and abortion rates go WAY up, no matter how many laws you enact.

As an Orthodox Christian, I believe God gave us free will. How this free will is expressed, we are charged to discern it's nature but not to judge or fellow humans. We are charged to pray for all and ask for His mercy for ourselves and others. Especially those whom we disagree with. And in our prayers ask for enlightenment to help correct these κακούς λογισμούς/wrong understandings. In today's politics, it's obvious to see the authoritarianism from the left and the right. They all want to curtail and limit our free will that God gave us. It's apparent to me that none of the above should be voted for. It's up to us to demand better and not support the corrupt and unethical that want to subjugate us. Saint Paisios is my Patron Saint and his words and guidance are Divine. Choosing the lesser of two evils is better. But not demanding better and letting corrupt and unethical candidates come before us, will never make any nation better. One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. Plato Why do we let this happen???!!! Veto out Homosexuality 3. Veto out Abortion Side Note 1 : - Never in history (that I know of) has there been a president (Trump) who stated Jesus (Not just God) But Jesus Christ’s name specifically as King or “Boss”. - On the contrary, never have I seen a presidential candidate (Biden) who stated in his first 100 days to advance homosexuality all over the world. Side Note 2. Some argue the behavior of Trump is not Christian like. God did not de st r öÿ a city because it resembled like trump, but He did de st r öÿ a city for its homosexual ways, telling us which is worse. Side Note 3: Yes Republicans support the death penalty but so does the Bible both old and New Testament. - Genesis 9:6 - Mathew 15:3-7 shows Jesus clearly supporting the Death Penalty. - Saint Paul approves of the death sentence in Acts 25:11 - Romans 13:4 - God approves of this because _one mans_ sin can multiply and later affect the salvation of _thousands_ Jesus didn’t care to save the thief from death but from hell. This country is run by secret societies who achieve their agenda no matter who is president. Choice is an illusion. It's been that way for a long time now. The new world order is coming to fruition. As far as destroying a whole city because of their sin is concerned, don't forget that God also destroyed the whole of the world with a flood and Revelation states that all nations will invite under the beast. "Rockefeller does not connote a revolutionary, and my life situation has fostered a careful and cautious attitude that verges on conservatism. I am not given to errant causes..." John D. Rockefeller III, The Second American Revolution (New York: Harper & Row. 1973) What is the ultimate purpose of these pincer tactics? Can they be related to the Marxian axiom: thesis versus antithesis yields synthesis? It is a puzzle why the Marxist movement would attack capitalism head-on if its objective was a Communist world and if it truly accepted the dialectic. Could therefore capitalism be the thesis and communism the antithesis, with the objective of the revolutionary groups and their backers being a synthesizing of these two systems into some world system yet undescribed? Anthony Sutton, Wall Street and the Bolshevik Revolution, 1973 “The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a one-world government combining supercapitalism and Communism under the same tent, all under their control. … Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent.” Larry P. McDonald U.S. Congressman, 1976, killed in the Korean Airlines 747 that was shot down by the Soviets in “Introduction” to The Rockefeller File, by Gary Allen (1975)

@@traditionalfascists3303 Might I bring your attention to the last sentence posted by The Orthodox Ethos, “Since we are in need of olive trees, we have to look for the ones that are affected the least.” In your first comment you say that you will not be voting, then I guess you will not have any olives. On the topic of Donald Trump supporting Zionism, most protestants do. Here is the definition of Zionism “Zionism is both an ideology and nationalist movement among the Jewish people that espouses the re-establishment of and support for a Jewish state in the territory defined as the historic Land of Israel.” I personally am in support of a Hebrew state in the historic land of Israel, but would be opposed to a Rabbinic Jewish theocracy governing it though not as much as an Islamic theocracy. To be clear when I say Hebrew state I mean ethnically Hebrew and not any kind of synonym for Jewish. Jewish is a confusing definition because it is often used to describe both ethnicity and religious affiliation. You said about Donald Trump, “he’s in favor of sending Money and weapons for Zionists to kill Palestinians” Here is my explanation for why we are sending money and weapons. Israel is one of the 18 Major non-NATO U.S. allies (MNNA). This classification was created during the time of president Ronald Reagan in 1987 and Israel joined in 1989 amid the First Intifada. The other 17 nations besides Israel that share the same status as of today are Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Egypt, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Tunisia. To be clear America is obligated to send money and weapons to all 18 nations in crisis. I assume that you would want a candidate that would terminate Israel from the alliance. My question is then, What would you like the United States to do after that if it is theoretically accomplished? Ally with Palestine instead? Retract president Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital? Maybe even recognize it as the Palestinian capital? If any of this were to take place I’m sure that there would be another war in the region where the Arab nations attack Israel or a rebel group rises up that turns the country into another Syria. Israel would surely be devastated if America took a stance against them or even just turned a blind eye. Maybe consider that the US-Israeli alliance is a defensive one that is necessary because of the volatility of Muslims. And recollect the incredible victories Donald Trump has made in regards to peace treaties in the greater region. You shouldn’t make a habit of breaking alliances. Alliances are promises and those 17 other nations I listed earlier are expecting America to honor their relations just as much as Israel is. This is my humble perspective. Feel Free to respond. God be with you.

Where in the gospels does Christ tell us to agitate on behalf of a certain political party? Where in the gospels does he tell his apostles to enlist the state on the side of the gospel? Where in the gospels is Christ the least bit political or systemic? Christ gave us only one directive on how to change the world. He said go and speak the truth and if Rejected kick the dust off your feet and go onto the next opportunity for witness. I have no doubt that Saint Paisos was a sage but On this particular subject I think he was myopic and perhaps a bit compromised by his own service in the Armed Forces of the state. Rise above these petty, ephemeral and patently corrupt processes upon the elevation of Christ. For truly, what is there that can separate the Orthodox Christian from the atheist, agnostic, Jew, Muslim, Unitarian, etc., in the anonymity of the voting booth? Are we those who achieve our end by the same means as these? If so how can we claim that we bear the marks of another world and are an eschatological people whose father land is not yet come? As the Bible teaches, do not touch that unclean thing but stand apart. distinguish yourself from the age, from the epoch, from the tumult that seduces and enthralls the world.
@OrthodoxEthos
@OrthodoxEthos 3 года назад
And where in the gospel did Christ say that only His words recorded in the gospel are to be consulted in order to determine His will in every case? Is he not with us until the end of the age? Is he not with us in his saints? Moreover, where in Saint Paisius’ words is he calling for agitation on behalf of “a political party? He actually says we should not be connected to political parties but only look for those who/ a go. are fearful of God and patriots.

@@OrthodoxEthos He is the ultimate exemplar. Christ is the perfect example of manhood and human comportment. Nowhere in his life, according to the Gospels, do we see any suggestion that a perfect life consists in harnessing the ephemeral and coercive means. On the contrary, his entire methodology was resonance. And, to be sure, the Christian community par excellence Was the one that had no political sway whatsoever but still somehow managed to convert people from India to Ireland before attaining to the legal status provided by Constantine. To ignore that example by saying that this Political and coercive abstemiousness on the part of Christ has no bearing on our understanding of how to live opens the Pandora’s box of deontological interpretation. He lived the perfect life as the second Adam.PERIOD. As such we have no higher example of how to proceed from cradle to repose. Not even the Saints, who were after all fallible and made mistakes even as they were proceeding to that higher state of holiness, can compare to Christ as foremost exemplar. You can pretend, father, that Christians can become embroiled or even interested in these things without favoring a certain political party and worldly methodology but that has no basis in the actual reality of outcomes. Saint Maximus the confessor says: “truly he is wise who, having forsaken all corruptible things, comes to belong wholly to that which incorruptible.” Obviously the word incorruptible here refers to God. For only He is impervious to the malfeasance which saturated human history, secular means and the extreme majority of magistrates. Will you go on record, father, as believing that democracy, electoral colleges, constitutional republic’s and all the means by which these act upon human neighborhood are incorruptible? I doubt very much that you would. Ergo, that which is corruptible is known to you. Yet you would have us Christians partake of it in self defense? But our God is one who goes out before us to level mountains. Clearly Saint Maximus is saying that that which is not wholly incorruptible cannot bear good fruit in the larger or eternal understanding, i.e. the sense which Christians are obligated to (“on earth as it is in heaven” not on earth as the “American way” would consign us to). Again, without that distinguishing sense and that comportment what can we possibly have to offer the world, and specifically those in the world who are in darkness, that they don’t already have? Part of the reason that I became Orthodox and left the protestant faith was because Orthodoxy is predicated on otherness, on estrangement from a world that is so clearly repulsed by God. But Protestants were always trying to find a way to make themselves a reflection of the world and its spiritual policy by degrees. But where are the distinguishing characteristics of my faith in Christ and his Church when I enter the anonymity of the voting booth? Democracy is political and politics is coercive. There is no way to separate these things from each other and then hermetically seal them off. As Saint John Chrysostom said, “I force no one, I compel no one, but make every man the master of his own fate and conscience.” If you wish to dip your toe into the ways and means of coercion go right ahead back to your vomit, but please don’t act like it it was the manner of the Saints or that Christ’s life in first century Palestine shown the marks of compulsion. Also, please do not behave like it’s going to have some kind of protracted affect which could be called the betterment of mankind. The book of Isaiah says that the rulers are made to be “as nothing.” It says that the nations which are predicated on these CORRUPTIBLE means are “less than nothing” in the balance. As such the Christian should not vote because to do so is to participate in that which is fundamentally secular, undeniably corrupt and eternally trivial.

@@OrthodoxEthos Father, I say these things out of respect for you because one of the themes of so many of your wonderful lectures and homilies has been the need for political abstemiousness. I do not think it unkind to say that perhaps you are succumbing to the anger which beguiles so many people into becoming politically enmeshed. I too feel a sense of revulsion when I look at the Democratic Party and their abortion zealotry. I too feel a sense of anger when I see so many from the liberal persuasion trying to wipe out the traditional and the holy. But this is not the way to mollify those things. On the contrary, that means has Only accelerated the degeneration of society according to these persuasions. We must not use it but rather transcend it. That is our calling as those who are told to “come out from among them and stand apart, and touch no unclean thing.”

When it comes to voting for a certain candidate for US President. Republican or Democrat. There’s a number of things that Americans need to keep in mind. 1. They need to carefully observe the candidate and make sure that the candidate is sincerely honest and decent and has good moral decency. 2. The candidate must have a clear moral conscience and stick to what they stand for and believe. 3. The candidate must make sure that he or she hasn’t done anything morally wrong such as sabotaging their marriage to their spouse and making fun of disabled people. 4. Keep in mind that there’s going to be political conflict between families and friends. If a certain family member decides to vote for a candidate from a different political party that the rest of the family will not agree with. There shouldn’t be any anger, resentment or bitterness. But rather tolerance, compassion, understanding and respect. Those who read this, I hope someone will read what I wrote and hopefully understand where I’m coming from.

Remarkable to me that anyone could see Trump as a bad option. I see him as a gift from God for our forbearance during the oppressive Obama years.

All olive trees are the same; all of them are affected by the same disease called dakos. However, some are affected 100% by it, others 80% and others 50%. Since we are in need of olive trees, we have to look for the ones that are affected the least.

Just had a change of heart. I will go support the lesser of the two evils. It may just be putting a bandaid on a gaping wound, but that's all we have. Lord help us!

World Chronicles well, actually, it's like what my husband just said, show me someone in this world who doesn't have some element of evil in them. Even Christians! except we are at least struggling and doing battle against it in our own lives. The world is a dark place and we can only work with what we have. The choices we make should be done in good faith hoping and praying for God's will to be done. And that's all.

I must take issue with some of Elder Paisios' words, and pray for wisdom if I am misguided: The analogy of the olive tree does not stand. Olive trees are a necessity, politicians and the State, are not. They simply have been for so long, most except they must exist. We inhabit Satan's kingdom, but no evil is necessary. And this is also important for not conflating "making the best choice" and "choosing the lesser of two evils." Choosing the lesser of two evils, is still choosing evil.

Watch the videos by Fr Seraphim a hieromonk of the Romanisn Orthodox Church who heads the monastery on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. Look up Mull Monastery on youtube .He talked about the evils of politics and the elections .He mentions the things you said about choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil and is still a sin.He said we sin by whoever we vote for because none of them are perfect Christians and each political party has specific sinful policies .Some are worse than others.

@@michaelangelovalerio Thank your for your answer. May be it is youtube itself deleting comments. Only The Lord know and He know our heart and the thing, intention behind it. Love from Amsterdam. I learn a lot from the teachings of Peter Heers and was really happy whit all the wisdom he give us trough his marvelous teachings.
