Cofactors are chemicals that can bind to inactive enzymes to activate them.
They can largely be split into three types: inorganic cofactors, coenzymes and prosthetic groups.

Thank you finally a video that explains what the difference between all these terms are clearly!

Hey, I just wanted to say thank u so so much for making these videos- I have exams this week and I’m pretty sure I’ve watched every single you’ve ever made ! They’re so helpful and easy to understand, I’ve learnt far more from you than from my teachers and for ages I thought I just wasn’t clever enough to understand the content but since finding your channel I actually have some hope !! I love how condensed they are and I’m a visual learner so I find the coloured pens & diagrams really helpful, I also love the music in the background:) You seem like such a kind person, I like the way you explain complicated as well as simple concepts, instead of assuming we know things or making us feel bad about not knowing something (like my teachers do!). Anyway sorry this was so long, but I’ve learnt more from you than from my teachers and tutors combined- thank you !!

Thank YOU for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment!! 🥰 Biology is one of the hardest AL subjects in my opinion, so give yourself credit for sticking with it and persevering through! You've come a long way and tomorrow, don't worry about anything - just go for it and enjoy the paper!! 🤩 All your hard work will be rewarded 💪 I'm really glad to hear that my videos have supported you through this incredible journey. It is an honour for me to be creating videos on the channel and seeing all your overwhelming support 🥰 Anyway, get some good rest, relax, and enjoy the paper tomorrow!

What about zymogens? Are they just apoenzymes which are activated by another enzyme or a change in conditions (but not cofactors) since they have an extra section of protein?

If cofactor and coenzyme are temporarily bound then surely when they leave enzyme not work why is that a good thing Thanks the vid is awesome

Enzyme reactions can require energy. So if the cell environment no longer requires using this enzyme (eg. Don't need to break more glycogen down into glucose), the cofactors leaving essentially deactivates the enzyme, preventing unnecessary loss of resources for the body. Hope this makes sense!
