Fantastic sports story. Not just a fantastic sports story for girls - a fantastic story. Period. Any kid who has a dream to be an athlete should watch this. It shows them that with hard work and perseverance, you can accomplish your dreams. Hats off to anyone who helped produce this piece - wonderful perspective and amazing storytelling.

This video was one of the most beautiful things I've seen... so inspiring for anyone who has seen it... regardless of gender, age, orientation... it transcends all of these things and just shows the beauty, the awe, the competitive spirit, the generosity of human beings who pay it forward and pave the way for others.. Thanks to all the companies, communities, groups, and individuals who made this happen!

I love hockey. I got into it after I sadly got bullied one day in my 7th year. I went to the library after school and cried but I remember I was on youtube and I saw a video of great hockey players. I fell in love. I chose my favorite team when I was in my 8th year. In my freshmen year I picked Patrick Kane as my favorite player on the team. I decided I wanted to be in the medical field in high school so I signed up for the schools small medical classes. Last year I decided I wanted to be an Athletic Trainer. My ambitious dream is to work for the Chicago Blackhawks as an Athletic Trainer. So this year I have had a Job Shadowing gig with my schools Athletic Trainer. I have gotten 39 hours plus a fee minutes of time from watching the AT and was so much fun. My senior year next year I am aiming for 50 hours with the AT. College better be ready. Because I am ready. I got these big dream to work with my favorite team.

What she did was say don’t lower the bar because I’m a girl. Keep it there and let me do my thing. That’s what is truly inspirational about this. I have 3 daughters and this is something I try to teach them. Don’t be a girl who does something great. Be someone who does something great and just happens to be a girl.

I think what she did that others need to do is she looked at what she wanted, understood what that meant and what it would take to get there. She didn't complain about what barriers were there or why she decided those barriers didn't matter and that she was going to break them regardless. Understand what you are asking for and why the barriers are there aren't important to you, how you break them is. Competing for fastest skater at the Allstar competition is almost impossible for anyone. It's the best of the best. There's no barrier that can be put in front of you that's harder than competing with them regardless of what sex you are. She came in under a second slower than Connor McDavid the fastest player in hockey. Let that sink in for a second. With no notice that she would be competing and no prep, she was within a second of the fastest hockey player in the world.

As a San Jose Sharks STH, I had the opportunity to attend the 2019 ASG festivities. I had read on Twitter that she was going to participate in the Fastest Skater competition, so I was looking forward to that as things were getting underway; but I had no idea just how spectacular a moment it was going to be, and how much of an impact it would go on to have. When they announced her name, the entire arena broke out in a "USA" chant; when the horn sounded and she started skating, you could FEEL the collective gasp at how fast she was; and as she turned that first corner, the cheers became a ROAR! She was absolutely FLYING, and everyone in the building was going CRAZY. It was EASILY the highlight of the weekend for me. I'm so glad to have been there to witness that moment, and thrilled that it is leading to even more opportunities for her and the WNT. Love seeing her on the occasional Sharks broadcast as well :)

Awesome Hawks, Way to go! I am a girls hockey coach at the U-14 and high school level. A worthwhile endeavor beyond my wildest dream. As an active promoter of girls hockey in the Dartmouth region of New Hampshire this hit home nicely. Kendall you and the whole woman's team were so much fun to watch at the Olympics and when you took to the ice last year at the NHL skills night I was so happy for you. I remember thinking this is just the shot in the arm girls hockey needs. what an inspiration! Get out and support the girls America #girlshockeyrocks

Keep up the good work Kendall. You are an inspiration to all hockey players not just girls' hockey. I remember watching the fastest skater competition the year you were at the NHL Stars Competition. I was blown away. Never in a thousand years did I think a woman could skate as fast as the top skaters in the NHL. You proved me wrong BIG TIME!!! I was gobsmacked by how fast your went around the rink especially the first quarter around the rink...I said to myself, boy this girl can skate. Man she's lightning fast. And the more you skated around that rink I knew you were going to post a great time, especially as you went behind the net in the third quarter and the closing stretched and you weren't even puffing hard like most sprinters do. Your skating blew me away. What I also liked was the respect shown to you by the NHL players that were on the bench. They stood up to give you a fist pump because they new you were "The Real Deal". I think in that moment you changed women's hockey but it goes much further than that, you changed Hockey...period! I would have loved to hear Don Cherry's comments about your skate because he was one guy who was a huge fan of women's hockey long before other men showed any interest in the women's game. Congratulations. I hope you have an amazing, influential career to change the world for all women.

I'm a Canadian. This is a great all around story, not just a sports story, not just a female story. When she took the ice last minute for that skate against the NHL players last year, I watched it streaming live and my mouth just hung open. I could not believe how fast this girl skated and the power in her stride. My first thought was honestly -- "How many guys in the NHL could this girl beat in the fastest skating showdown out of all the teams. " -- A great investment of time here for anyone that loves the game, so thanks for this upload guys.

As I heard from a friend of mine, even if you think you have given 100% you really have an extra 20 to 40% to give. My daughter wanted to play football. But there are several reasons why I would not let her do that. 1. There is still the stigma of girls in football, it's not just as accepting. 2. The end goal of women's football is not good. (Take a look at the uniforms, it's demeaning and exactly the opposite of what most women are fighting for.) So, having just recently gotten on the ice myself (having never had in interest in ice hockey before), I said she could do that. And it's precisely because I knew there was, at least, a women's olympic hockey team. I saw it as being a welcoming sport for the ladies.

It's a sad reality that the only reason women aren't playing in the NHL, is the size. Women are fully capable of hitting, undressing goalies and pushing end to end. But, the size difference makes it a danger. IF and I mean IF, they could hit that 180-200lbs without compromising speed or finesse then the only thing stopping them is front of house offering contracts.

Great video! Glad the sport has grown for girls ( for their own teams) I am going to play devils advocate here. My complaint No reason to cry and quit trying to play the sexism card though ....My self and many other boys wanted to play hockey but parents could not afford it . Imagine if if the NFL's JJ WATT could have continued his hockey career. We were told to do something else maybe baseball na..ick BORING !, football na... I'm too small ! soccer na ..zzzz! It is the men who are growing this sport. Hockey in the US has always been the least popular of the top four sports. It would surface here and there. The miracle on ice helped, Gretzky being traded to LA helped. The NHL men are the ones still trying to grow this sport teams fold, move, lock -outs, strikes. I refused to do any other sport. I have seen this happen to kids in the inner city with other sports, not being able to fill a roster because it's a bad neighborhood, so you then have to travel really far to fill a roster. There is a boy crisis now no fathers.. so Boys need to be with other boys, males have a high suicide rate, dropping out of school, not going onto college, and other problems that women don't have. Boys are being told from a young age now "your no good"... "you are toxic" If it was not for Toxic masculinity sports like skiing, skating, mountain climbing, fast cars, planes, skydiving etc. would not have been discovered / invented. It's males desire for danger that is why men take on dangerous jobs. and more likely to die on the job than a woman. Just remember if you play hockey you are lucky to afford it!

With regards to "When are we going to stop talking about these things..." It's going to happen when the women's game starts pulling in the same number of fans as the men. This is true in Tennis and in Soccer. And the top women in those leagues are making bank. Are they making as much as the men? I don't know. Studies show they are making as much or more relative to ticket sales and other incomes that those leagues take in. There could definitely be better promotion.

That fastest skater drill performance was a real eye-opener, to be sure. It was WAY more of a blow for women's equality in sports than Bill Jean King beating old Bobby Riggs. But let's not over-state things. Women's hockey in general is nowhere near the professional level. The Canadian National women's team practices by playing games against local 17-year-old boys teams, using women's hockey rules. The games tend to be pretty close. Canada probably has thousands of beer-league men's teams that could beat the women's Olympic champions.

Maybe the Women Hockey Leagues need a charity tax from the NHL to survive.

this past weekend's sold out game between the Pride and the Rivs--not to mention the fact that the NWHL consistently sells out multiple games a year, if not the majority of their schedule, as well as their All-Star Games--begs to differ.

@@sothisishowlibertydieswith5068 How much for a ticket and how many people those arenas can contain???
@sothisishowlibertydieswith5068
@sothisishowlibertydieswith5068 4 года назад
@@martinmorissette5843 it depends on the arena and where the seats are, as in literally any arena for literally any sporting event. from what I've seen, tickets are generally $15-$50 (depending, as I said before, on which team you're going to see and where you're sitting).
@sothisishowlibertydieswith5068
@sothisishowlibertydieswith5068 4 года назад
Let's do some quick math, just for the fun of it. If general admission tickets are $15 (literally the lowest price available, and most tickets are higher), and I'm going to Northtown Center to support the Buffalo Beauts--which has a seating capacity of 1800--they're making $27,000 every time they have a home game. That doesn't include the money made from tickets that are higher prices OR any money made from merch, concessions, etc. And if women's hockey was afforded a little more exposure and larger facilities, there's no reason to believe they couldn't make even more money/sell more tickets. Women don't need your charity!!! We just need to be given opportunities.
