One of Jack, Helen, and Greg's BEST work. Absolutely loved this movie. Very powerful. The scene where he looks at her and says "you make me wanna be a better man". Wow.
@@thomasjensen6243 honestly, no, I’m 55, and before this movie I’d never heard or read this before. But even then, in this movie, this scene, was simply perfect.
Having worked in a mental institution it is interesting to watching some of the patients during their meals and how they had to touch certain things two or three times
@@zapkvr A psychologist and a psychiatrist both receive the same mental health/psychiatric training/schooling. However, a psychiatrist is also a trained medical doctor, and can prescribe medications, or give medical treatment in emergencies.
I have no qualifications on paper, i am well read, maybe old school, enough about me, this film had a tremendous impact on me and how i now think about life, the casts portrayal of these troubled souls blended into an optimist outlook for any viewer who may feel life rolls over them and they feel powerless to change, take stock from those around us who may be suffering, reach out and see what happens, bake a cake, take their dog for a walk, listen, don't interrupt, be there for a stranger.
I’ve probably seen fifty times ,such a great movie ,i old both of theses actors Helen Hunt so deserved the Oscar her performance, and of course Nicholson always deserves one .
It's a tribute to how fine an actor Jack Nicholson is that he can take an essentially unlikeable scumbag of a character and actually make the audience side with him--sort of. Another actor couldn't have carried this off as well, not hardly.
Helen Hunt's character was awful. Uncaring, flighty and narcissistic. Jack should have banged the dumb blonde fan at the beginning of the movie instead.
MAN this movie!!! Watching this OCD guy wash his hands for 2 seconds and throw out whole bars of soap. Ugh That frumpy waitress pickup his fork that he placed near his plate! LADY WTF Helen hunt sitting on the tub with her back exposed “ BEAUTIFUL LINES OF A WOMAN” Taking the painter into his home. “ you move me” OMG!!!! Great line The dr paying a visit to a poor persons home so they get real medical care….. “ TEARS” The line “ what if this is as good as it gets” I see as a line of determination. If you don’t try harder to solve your issues by doing the hard things then yes it will be as good as it gets BUT he found reasons to try harder and his life is changing. “ WOW”….. Such a good movie.
My husband has this mild disorder. He counts his steps and when he has misplaced something , he will not stop looking until it is found which means I have to find it for him.
Very realistic scene. You make the efforts (plural here) to improve your condition, which often leads to ask for help. The response? Worse than indifference. You're being expected to behave/fonction normally, and that's after spending hours and hours explaining that you just don't have the luxury to do so. Not without help.
She was refering to his reaction while she listed all the details of her ill son. I clearly did bother him. He was getting annoyed. But he got over it Because "she makes him want to be a better man" ;)
@@cyberspooky And people wonder why I’ll stick with DVD and Blu-Ray instead of subscribing to streaming sites-once I shell out good money for a movie, I want to KEEP it!
Fantastic film. It was an instance where the best film that year didn't win the Best Picture Oscar. The film that made a billion dollars did. Some people complain that the Academy Awards don't often reflect public sentiment, but this is probably an example of why that's a good thing. Titanic was a good film, but in hindsight, As Good As It Gets and Good Will Hunting were better written and better acted films. It's just hard to beat a blockbuster romance film with 2 popular young heartthrob actors, a popular director and a memorable soundtrack. I admit, I saw Titanic 3 times in the theatre, mostly just for the painting scene. I was 16 and it was the first time I'd seen anything like that on the big screen. Obviously, this was in the days before such things were readily available for free over the internet and all I had access to at the time was dial up. But I guarantee a film like this could never be made today. Back then, you could show a bigoted character with some redeeming qualities without condoning the negative behaviour. Now, Christians would probably cancel a movie about the bible because it had depictions of the devil and politically correct people want to shut everyone up, regardless of the context. You get it in both ends these days. I miss the 90s, where lunatics on both sides were ignored equally.
Am I the only one that’s annoyed by the fact that he left the top lock unlocked despite his ridiculous issue. Bad acting. He need to learn how to count.
