Jack Nicholson is a legend. Love him. And Billy Crystal the best Oscar host ever. Nobody has even come close to his performances as host. Those were the days
Fun fact: both times Nicholson won Best Actor, his co-lead won Best Actress for the same film - Louise Fletcher in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Helen Hunt in As Good as it Gets.
Gustavo Horn also his supporting actor win for Terms of Endearment (another Jim Brookes film) for which Shirley MacClaine also won best leading actress.

He's the best and helps get the best out of whoever works with him
Peter Fonda reaction to his old friend winning was actually genuine. Sign he was a lovely man. Great film great script director acting . Watchable even today it shines.
Best Actor: Jack Nicholson Best Actress: Helen Hunt Best Supporting Actor: Robin Williams Best Supporting Actress: Kim Basinger ...what a year for acting. 🥰
He doesn't make a bad movie. He is one of the greatest actors in cinema. I liked as good as it gets and the witches of Eastwick performances the most but all were great.
an actor was so excited to be in a movie with captain jack and was thanking him profusely. Jack stared him down raised his sunglasses and proclaimed, "I don't make movies, I make classics."
Good Lord that had to have been one of the most incredible Oscar's ceremonies of all time. I've been a Cinephile since I was about 12 officially and I'm 40 now. Had I been born just a few years earlier I would have experienced so much awesomeness not only cinema wise but musically as well. However I'm pretty sure I got the last truly great decade so I'll take what I can get!
What a performance by Jack Nicholson. Helen Hunt was amazing as well. Just a great film all around. Jim Brooks figured out a way to make a film about mental illness a very serious subject I say from experience enjoyable with tears and laughs great performances and wonderful music. And Jack again stole so many scenes!!! Thank you!
“As good as it gets” is the perfect case story description of obsessive compulsive disorder and it turns out that real really can be the perfect reference for making scripts…:):):)
Three times Oscar winner Jack Nicholson dedicated his winning to Robert Mitchum, and the Academy never gave Mitchum an honorary Oscar, and didn't gave him an award for The Night of the Hunter in 1955. Shame on the Academy!
1. Duvall - transformative performance; 1997 critics' fave for Best Leading Actor 2. Fonda - echoes of father Henry; understated yet great 3. Hoffman - committed performance 4. Nicholson - can do this in his sleep; the role is interesting though 5. Damon - discovery of 1997 Hollywood film year despite having been acting for several years (including 1996's Courage Under Fire)
Jesus Christ when you remember the entire Fonda family ate literal acting Titans, my god watching Peter’s small clip made me realize I forgot just how great he was
GREAT acceptance speech. Actually talked about the film and the people who helped him get the award. To all the future Academy winners - learn from this. NO POLITICS, no bullshit. Movie and people. Being an actor doesn’t grant you some special insights into politics - it just makes you an actor. Just like a doctor, lawyer, plumber, mechanic....you get what I mean.
I ❤ As Good As It Gets. It might be one of my favorite romcoms of all time. It's so New York City. Loved it. And it would nice if the Academy Awards can be as magical as it was in these days. Bring back Bill Conti's music (Oscar melodies). Make great movies again. Make Oscsrs Great Again.
I would have voted for Robert Duval for his performance in the apostle which was brilliant but I also thought Nicholson was excellent in as good as it gets.
I dragged my dad to see Five Easy Pieces because it was rated R and I couldn't get in without him. I worried that it would be porn, but it wasn't. When I was 16 I knew that Jack would be sigfnicant, and I was right.
Jack was at a party in Hollywood one night and a woman asked "Would you like to dance Jack?" Jack said "Wrong verb honey!" and they weren't seen for the rest of the evening. 😊
Listen to the announcer. As if anybody in the audience needed to know that. At the end of the day, the Academy Awards is a tv show. If there’s anything wrong with it, if there’s anything foundational to its failings, it’s this.
