A 65-year-old printer hatches an elaborate scheme to avoid forced retirement. Director: Harmon Jones Writers: Lamar Trotti (screen play), Paddy Chayefsky (story) Stars: Monty Woolley, Thelma Ritter, David Wayne
you must have rose colored glasses on. Have you ever watched MM's burlesque character in "Ladies of the chorus"? The scene borders on pedophilia and THAT was considered ok? Its creepy but view it your self.

I miss the days when manners were so important. I had two grandmothers, one was so playful and the other one was very strict. When I was younger I thought that the one that was playful was the best. But now that I’m older, I know that the one that was strict taught me how to be a respectful human being. I love her so much for that!!!
When I studied at school there was no Android phone and I did read about Marilyn Monroe in a newspaper and I thought I couldn't ever be able to watch her movies because our television was also got damaged. Today I can't believe I am watching Marilyn Monroe's film. And this became possible only because there is Android phone and you tube.
@@kimi5425 and sexism, homophobia, post ww2 paranoia, segregation, working class barely being able to eat. The fashion is great though. Vintage style> vintage values
I've never seen this movie. Thank you for loading it. It had me laughing when the grandfather was so cheeky and pretended to be the president of the motor company. My favorite scene was him dancing and stealing the dance floor with the unhappy housewife.
56:40 Marilyn Monroe sticking her tongue out! That's not something you're gonna see to often. I am surprised no one has taken a still of that and sold it as a poster.
Fun movie. Great cast. Ms. Ritter is always great. This was one year after her classic role In All About Eve, 1950. and Ms. Monroe. A joy watching Mr. Woolley. And an elegant Constance Bennet in this movie, who many years later (1966), played the conniving mother of Lana Turner in Madam X. One of the great tear-jerkers. I just realized I have seen this movie before.
Such an amazing movie with incredible lessons. Grandpa was a true gentleman and was content in life. Rarely do we find people refusing offers like this now.I enjoyed watching this movie.
Amazing movie, by Paddy Chayefsky. He wrote "Marty" also. Many stories about the ordinary working man. Don't think it's impossible that people wouldn't recognize Cleveland as Hodges. At my dad's retirement party in the early 1980s, my dad's very dear friend, who was bald with only a little sort white band of hair around the ears and nape of the neck, donned a dark-hair toupee for laughs...his wife didn't recognize him when I showed her a photo I took of the occasion. She swore it wasn't her husband. This story proves even the hand-press man has something to say. Get rid of ageism and hire experienced older folks...If the country can "hire" old men to be the head of state, older people shouldn't be relegated to retirement at a certain age.
Thank you for posting.. I’m a huge Monroe fan... her beauty was just awe dropping... Good movie as well .. much luv to you out of St. Louis Missouri 💕💕💕
Thank you 🙏 for uploading a film with MM , I’m a huge fan , not everyone likes musicals so iv rarely watched “ no B like show B , yet I adore watching MM . I still appreciate you uploading them for ppls enjoyment thanks 🙏
Thank you for uploading this movie🤗 I’ve never seen it before and you popped up on my timeline 🥰and you have a new subscriber now🤗Thank you so much as I can’t wait to check out the rest of your videos. I’m a huge fan of these great old BW movies and of course a huge fan of Marilynn too. These old movies are the best and as they make me forget about the world we live in today for a bit.
The 5:32 scenery on the clock is prophetic for before I moved to Fair Field Ca. In 2007. At a gate in Vallejo Ca. I parked my car then got out and while standing at the gate looking into Fair Field by spirit I interceded for Fair Field Ca. in prayer. (2007-2021). Terrill TC!
It's so amazing 👏 how time is and history complete it's the moment in time very high above wisdom in the unknown world of films This one hits it on those moments 😀
I watched this movie for Marilyn Monroe but even do she had a minor role, I still enjoyed the movie. The way people talk, that 1950s culture is very great to watch. 57:15 go fry an egg :))
The focus on M.M. detracts from the story. The real star of this wonderful film, other than the incomparable Monty Woolley is the original author Paddy Chayefsky, of "Network" fame. The story is a critique of post-war America and it's obsession with capitalism, status and money. The actual president of General {Consolidated} Motors was Alfred P Sloan.Unfortunately, nothing like the charming character portrayed here. He was in fact a racist, union busting, anti-semite - just like Henry Ford and Chayefsky knew it. But Hollywood softened his story because of McCarthyism. The Woolley character is a voice pointing the way to what is real success, personal integrity. It was in short supply then and remains so today.
Godness what manners...all those gentelmen attitudes. Great movie, shame marilyn was so little...but maybe better because her beauty always distract from the story lol
This was usa boom time , when they were economically at the peak. People had lived through the depression then Ww2 & suddenly not working was a shock .
