Completely agree. The fact that a female metal band is still a novelty is quite sad in this day and age. All I want to find out is if their music appeals to me.

Trowa Barton Just because people like me demand explanations doesn't mean it has anything to do with gender. From journalistic perspective it's mandatory to ask things and not take everything as granted.

There are plenty of gals in bm scene, yet most of them play absolutely nothing. Of course the same applies to guys as well, but more often than gals, guys play or sing, run a zine, organize events etc. For example here in Finland if I go to a smaller gig or fest, it's very likely that quite a few of them have played or still play in bands vs. the women of which almost nobody plays anything. So, I think it's worth mentioning when there's an all-female band doing BM. Even if it's meaningless which gender they are vs. how their music is, I think it's something that people could think about for a while.

@@RautaMetal Yeah! It can be good to showcase it sometimes, inspiring, to let people know it's a possibility. When we don't see ourselves represented, it may not even occur to us as an option. Of course, the black metal philosophy tends to be fuck all those norms anyway, so that probably makes it an attractive artistic venue for any underrepresented group.

Indeed! It’s often a good idea to remind people of these options and possibilities. Not everybody can be a pioneer. For example, without some early BM bands there, many bands of the 2nd wave might not have happened without the 1st wave bands. Same can be said about bands like Astarte, which is one of the first all-female bm bands.

There have been some great all female bands over the years. Not becasue they are female, but becasue they are great. In the 90s, Drain were my favourite band.
