My husband is from Chattanooga and we go down there quite often. We used to ride the incline, but the last time I rode it, I was terrified. I’m afraid of heights and as I get older (64 yrs) it’s getting worse. I could barely walk off the thing when we made it to the top. My knees buckled and I had to sit for about 10 minutes before my legs could hold me. But, we rode it back down and I swore to myself that was the last time. I feel bad, because my husband loves to go to Lookout Mtn, he has many good memories from his childhood. Chattanooga has a lot of history and charm. I also love to walk around their riverfront, where they have the carousel and water fountains. Very pretty. Thanks for sharing your trip with us!

Great trip. My Dad was big on exploring places we went especially historic places. We visited battle fields throughout Maryland, Smithsonian in DC, Western Maryland trails, Mason Dixon line and of course our beautiful Chesapeake Bay. So much history from the very beginning of settling the US east coast like all of the original 13 colonies. It reminds us of our humble beginnings. God’s blessings

I would love to ride that train. It kinda makes me think of going up the Arch in St Louis, although some differences. After ya made it to the top, there’s so many steps/stairs to walk, I would have difficulty walking. I’m reliving my childhood trip on the Cog Railway up Mt. Washington in New Hampshire 😂 I was about ten and was never so scared in my life! That train goes up on some of the way on wooden trusses that are very high off the ground It was jostling and shaking. I was in sheer terror lol. I absolutely refused to get back on for the ride down and my angel of an uncle walked all the way down the mountain with me! I just remember such relief and pure joy walking down that mountain! Best uncle ever! ❤️

The place has really changed since the 1960s. We walked out onto a big flat rock that was the observation deck where we could see 7 states. A sign showed which state was in each direction. There was an area called Fat Man Squeeze. I remember thinking that my Dad would have a hard time getting through it. Lol. After watching a video of what it looks like today, I see that even it has changed. We got banana splits when we got off the railway. First time I had a banana split.

Good morning Denman Family. The incline was steep but I think I could have handled it. Not quite sure of the knees cause I think your reaction would be to put down your feet and brace yourself against the chair ahead of you. Once up there it was beautiful looking. The little movie started out interesting but didn't get to see it all. Probably very informative to the area. I have rode trams up mountains here in Canada in the Rockies and vehicular in Puerto Rico at a resort to go from one section down to another and that was fun but almost 20 years ago. Thanks for sharing your little trip up the Incline Mountain Railroad with us and see you on the next one. HAGD.

Thank you again for sharing your explorations in Tennessee. I’ve been keto for 6 years and I can imagine it’s hard for Buddy to find food in these small shops along the way. I ate more fruit than I usually do when I was in Tennessee the first of July for my granddaughters wedding. Cheese and sausage sticks get tiring. Beef jerky without sugar or msg or soy is hard to find. My saving grace was a Publix grocery store. Their watermelon was amazingly sweet. Like I said more fruit than usual but to combat the cheese I had to indulge. I loved Tennessee. The vbro we stayed at in Greeneville was so cute and comfy. Next summer I’m headed to the NC coast for a week in a beach home with my daughter and her family. It’s a 19 hr drive for me so I’ll be going through Tennessee on my way there and back. Thanks for sharing!

Oh my goodness! The five of you are very brave. As interesting as the Incline Railroad is, so full of history etc., there is no way I'd be on that train. Am wondering if that is the only way to reach the top? Are there roads that could be driven with less of an incline? Why on earth would there be a military battle so high up? Guess I'll need to do a little research on this. I had an anxiety attack riding the tour bus up Denali in Alaska and it wasn't as steep of an incline so I doubt I'd be able to ride this train. Also wondering if your children realize that when they take a summer vacation, traveling throughout the USA, that they are actually attending summer school. They are fortunate to have parents that include well rounded activities that include games, nature, history and family bonding. Unfortunately within the next couple years the family vacation will change because of Cayden entering his later teen years. He will go through a period where he'll have a summer job or prefer to be with his peers than joining in on family vacation. It will be a rough period for mom and dad but be assured it will only last a few years and he'll be back in the family mode. Stephanie and Buddy, you have done an amazing job in raising three great kids. They are all respectful, kind, intelligent, all around great kids.
