I liked the line too but come one, who hasn't though about Pokemon as dog fighting at some point or another. Most of the Pokemon world makes no sense if you think about it. Or is horrible.

@@TheoHiggins Michael Vick is a former football player who around 2007 was exposed in engaging in dog fighting rings. Darwin is basically saying that Ash and the other trainers use the pokemon in a similar way for entertainment.
It is also a reference to how a professor greets before starting a new game in pokemon, but instead of saying welcome to the pokemon world, he says welcome to a world called earth

Nah “gotta catch ‘‘em all” requires a prerequisite knowledge of pokemon which not all people have while the other two are straight to the point and easy to understand.

"ki" is the reading of tree, and the prefix "oo" (usually spelled with an o with a crossbar) and read as just a long o, means large. So "Oki", or oo-ki which sounds not unlike Oak means large tree... or if you're mentally 6, big wood.

It’s amazing, the things one can get away with, through a combination of “Crossing the Line Twice”, most of the participants being fictional/historical characters so it does not feel “too soon”, and how the recipients of those insults can effortlessly roll with it then fire back. The Jacques Cousteau and Steve Irwin one had a similar moment... “So run back home to your daddy's zoo! And just to be clear, 'cause I'm no veterinarian; Were you killed by a fish kids pet at the aquarium?” “Holy smokes, what a place to go! You'd need a submarine for a blow that low! (Awhh!) There's no proof that oak did, and even if there was, it would be even weaker, he'd just be stating out the obvious.
"I've yet to catch the ghost type" This was not only a good bar, but an accurate one for most of the anime, as ash hasn't caught a ghost type until Pokemon Journeys. Haunter doesn’t count, Ash never threw a pokeball at Haunter, he just used it in a battle and left it.
i mean according to ash thunder is not an electric type move and is in fact super effective against ground so maybe to him he has caught 50 ghost types.

What's so ridiculous about it? Both were people who studied nature. Ash documented the evolution and data of Pokemon, whilst Darwin also studied evolution and came up with the theory of natural selection. They both went out in the field and spent long periods observing nature.
I'm still trying to figure out why a lot of people didn't catch this the first time. This idea circulated through the ERB fandom long since it started. The premis was simple: Pokemon evolve, so let's pair up the most recognized character in the franchise with the father of evolution. I'm starting to think that this confusion just reflects the generational change.

Ash is pretty lethal in this. Insulting the man about his dead children. That's waaaaay past the line and I love it. If it weren't for the last line, Ash had it.
1:31 I like that they put in "from so simple a beginning" showing they actually researched Darwin properly. Its the last line from his book Origin of Species "from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved" They know about the characters as much as people who have studied them lifelong. They really put in a lot of effort.
I'll say this: Ash is kind of at an advantage in this battle because his character has already been the butt of so many jokes over the years. Most of the best disses you could use against him seem tired and stale now. "Couldn't turn 11", "Oak banged your mom", "slave fights" , "Pokeballs are balls", -- though "Mighty Morphin Michael Vick might be the best individual line in the battle. Comparatively, a lot of the insults heaved at Darwin by the common man are very surface level criticisms of his theories, his racism, and his effect on the scientific community. So all in all, Ash won this contest, but not because Darwin didn't try hard enough.
"Hello there welcome to a world called earth." At first, I didn't notice the subtly of that first opening line and the shot, took a few views to catch it. Anyone who's ever played the first pokemon games knows Oak is the first thing you see, holding a book, welcoming you to the world of pokemon. When I caught this I nearly died.
tota konoe it’s a reference to Ash Williams from the Evil Dead movies. They came out over a decade before Ash Ketchum existed, and he uses a shotgun which he calls a “boomstick”. It’s a double entendre, basically saying Ash Williams has a bigger... stick than Ash Ketchum. To be fair though, the reason this line isn’t talk about too much is because it’s a penis joke in a battle with much better lines

“Glitchy old man” references the missing no glitch from pokemon red, which is why he sets sail from a spot similar to the one in the video, and you could encounter missing no by talking to an old man then flying to the island.
i never really see anyone talking about Darwin's opening bar "hello welcome to a world called earth" immediately tearing down the Fantasy world Ash lives in.

Oh yes that line was good. When I read on Erbwiki the meanings of some rap lines it was mentioned that this one in particular was based on the quote from the Pokemon Professors in the beginning "Welcome/Hello to the world of Pokemon!".
Tbh I feel like this is one of the more underrated ERBs. It's suprisingly pretty evenly balanced and they both trade shots with each other, and it just gets better each time I listen to it.
Christian Horn this video has 32 MILLION views, it's not freaking underrated. You youtube kids and your overindulgence for words you don't understand is underrated however. Just like your brains
