We have a few people that take their dog(s) out for a walk in warmer weather and I do know that some of them it is needed for comfort breaks - fully house trained dog but living in an apartment with no garden for example I do leave a bowl of water out for our furry friends to have a drink if they wish which gets changed at least three times a day. Even if the dogs don’t use it the wild birds enjoy a bath occasionally 👍

I've seen people taking their dog out in around 20c weather and the dog is always looking like it is too hot. I've sen people sit down and drink meanwhile the dog is panting away as if it wants to cool down. If it's too hot to wear your coat outside then it's too hot for the dog.

Always take water out when walking my dogs whatever the temperature, will never walk them if it is over 25C and will only walk them on a short walk like 20/30mins between 20-25C, they are fine with the temperature but I won't let them run around and make sure that I keep to more shaded areas of the park near my house. I also, and I know it is with the best of intentions that people do it, never let my dog drink out of any bowl of water left out on the pavement, as I do not trust people walking past not to put anything in it.

@@shadybacon3451 understand what you are saying completely which is why I am the same with my dog and the water bowls left outside well known pet shops in town centres It is also the reason why the bowl I leave is off the pavement but accessible and the water changed regularly. Hi Ashley, a couple of ideas for future videos. 1) How to find a good instructor and the benefits of going with a larger school or independent instructor. 2) The absolute state of trying to get a test in some locations is near on impossible. I had a terrible time getting an instructor near where I live (Surrey). I did find a good one for my daughter but he wasn't available when it came time for my son. The only instructor I could find for him turned out to be quite poor in my opinion so I ended up teaching him myself instead. Both my kids passed first time. In both cases the soonest driving test in the area was about 6 months away. We considered booking an area far away, which was definitely an option, but in the end we used one of the many phone apps which looks for dates which come up and rebooks for you. But these apps are part of the problem because it has become an arms race where in some parts of the country you need to use the app to find a free test.

9:00 Hint to driver behind: Red and yellow means prepare to go passed stop point or line, but not until green. You're getting it confused with walking crossings, when flashing yellow means you can go and pass the stop line IF all is clear and like green, you can complete the cross. A Verstappen or Hamilton would have been proud of that start, at least timing wise.

The amount of dangerous driving, carelessness, aggression and just general poor driving you see on an average day is not astonishing anymore, it's routine. I reckon the amount of people who are banned or haven't even passed their driving test and are still driving is extremley high. Another incoming Ashley video whilst I'm at an event! Had a great visit to a large Peony farm earlier and now at the Kent Wellness Show. Had to drive for several miles along very narrow single track lanes with plenty of blind bends to get to and from the Peony fields. Was very pleasantly surprised at how cooperative oncoming drivers were and there were absolutely no "Mexican standoffs" like you sometimes see in videos. Nonetheless, breathed a big sigh of relief when finally getting to the dual carriageway. Anyhow, looking forward to catching up on this Driving Fail video later today at home. Hopefully I'm not featured in it. 😊

these compilations remind me how much nicer the standard of driving is, in the UK. even if they are not up to Ashley's standard of niceness. in the US, in a scenarion where there was a car merging in, most people would insist that it is merging traffic's job to accommodate the traffic on the road, and so traffic on the road, should force THEM to change speed or direction, and even force them off the road to enforce their own priority.

At around 19:02, a "side comment" regarding roundabout traffic lights: In many such situations you can see when the lights for the cross traffic are changing, as indeed was the case here. In a manual car, this is an extra useful bit of information, as you can stay in neutral and clutch pedal up until you see the lights for the cross traffic change. Having said that, if I am the first or second car, I would tend to wait at my red light in first gear with the clutch down. But that in itself can also depend on other factors, such as if I see a long line of vehicles in the cross traffic continue moving / if via local knowledge I know roughly how long my lights will remain red (though even then, I might "split the difference" and get into gear "early") and a few other factors. There are a number of subtleties with all this but the good thing about that is that it is conducive to being observant to what's happening around you.
@ibs5080
@ibs5080 2 месяца назад
At around 4:49, yes I'm always wary when I wait well in on the left for an oncoming vehicle, that others may mistakenly think I'm parking. One way I protect against this is to wait a bit out from the curb but to leave enough space between me and the obstruction on my left to be able to pull further over to the left if neccassary. Sometimes, I willl put on a right signal whilst I'm waiting as well as creep forward ever so slightly to show that I'm not parked. Sometimes I will also flash my brake lights.

I think it's true to say that potholes are becoming more and more prevalent across the country, as councils can't afford to repair them all. It's a real indicator of the state of things on a wider scale.
@ryanmitcham5522
@ryanmitcham5522 2 месяца назад
Potholes on local roads managed by local authorities are one thing, but what I've noticed for the first time this year are serious potholes on high speed roads managed by the Highways Agency (i refused to use whatever name they have decided to call themselves this week) simply being left unfixed. That never used to be a thing. The A56 north of Manchester, a 70mph dual carriageway, has a section with dozens of potholes, mostly unfixed, some badly patched creating the sort of result you only used to see on local roads. Combine that with the current trend of no street lighting on major routes at night, and that is going to be lethal to somebody unfamiliar with the road on a dark rainy night at some point.

At around 9:01 with the beep just as the lights change to red and amber. One instance where I've been beeped before I should actually move off due to red lights still showing: It's at a level crossing, whereby the barriers go up but the alternating dual red lights remain flashing for several more seconds before extinguishing. Some drivers seem to forget that this still means Stop, regardless of the fact that the physical barriers have now gone up.
@christopherl1864

i assume that's so taller vehicles don't set off too soon and collide with the barriers?
@ibs5080
@ibs5080 2 месяца назад
@@christopherl1864 That's actually a very good reasoning on your part. I'm genuinely surprised I didn't think of that! Either way, I like to stay "legal", especially as some of these crossings have cameras. I realise that's more for "blatant" disregard for the barriers coming down but you just never know. One technique I have developed to reduce my likelihood of getting beeped in this situation: 1. I stop slightly short of the Stop line before the level crossing, though not excessively short of it. 2. When the barriers go up, I start to creep forward very slowly. This (hopefully) shows the driver behind that I am aware the barriers have gone up. 3. Because I stopped slightly short of the Stop line, my slow creep forward will (in theory) not result in me going past the Stop line before the red lights extinguish a few seconds later.
@christopherl1864
@christopherl1864 2 месяца назад
@@ibs5080 I really like that. One of the hallmarks of good driving is controlling the space around you, but in reality the only space you're really in control of is the bit in front of you (and not always even that!) So stopping a little short of the line is beneficial in several ways, not least as you describe above, but also as a buffer for someone coming in too quickly behind you, or as filtering space for a two-wheeled road user, or to give manoeuvring room for an emergency vehicle. I will try to incorporate it more into my own driving!

At around 13:28, that is indeed an interesting cut out and I'm wondering the reason for it. In a similar light, I've seen motorways where there is a distinct "off" slip road right after an equally distinct "On" slip road. if you are unfamiliar with the area, due to signage and / or sat nav instructions, you could easily mistake the earlier "on" slip road for the subsequent "off" slip road to exit. The danger with this is that the "on" slip road ends (traffic coming from it has to merge onto the main carriageway) and only after that does the distinct and seperate "off" slip road begin.

At around 18:01, I'm not sure of the legalities of making a U turn at a set of traffic lights here in the UK. I know that at many / most UK traffic lights there is no specific sign forbidding it but I would imagine at the very least, it would come under the general heading of "careless driving". In many / most North American jurisdictions it comes under the very specific offence of "Making a U turn at a controlled intersection". and although it's not normally signed, it's a general law that drivers are supposed to know over there. There are occassionally traffic light intersections in Canada and USA that are specifically signed for "U turn OK". Often with a curb "bulge" on the opposite side to accomodate for the wide turning radius that goes with a U turn. Interestingly also at such intersections, the road to your right will have a ban for traffic approaching on that road to forbid the usual North American "Right turn on red". Reason being, this would conflict with traffic making a legal U turn on the cross street. Hope I have described all that in a way that's understood!

At around 3:09 with the private hire car trying to force it's way against oncoming traffic when making a right turn. Looks like there was what's sometimes known as a "protected right turn" (aka right turn green filter) for a while but I reckon that phase ended and thereafter, the private hire car thought it could still sneak through it's right turn before the oncoming traffic started to move off. I see this sort of thing happen in Vancouver quite a bit, with left turns over there, many of which have a "protected left turn" phase for a temporary period.
@CristiNeagu
@CristiNeagu 2 месяца назад
3:04 I am going to bet that's an issue caused by a combination of lack of attention and poor traffic signalling. The UK has a serious problem with filter traffic lights. All too often I see solid green lights being used for all directions in intersections such as this one, and you're expected to somehow know that despite you having a green light, despite there not being a give way line in a lot of cases, that the other way also has a green light and you must give way to them. In Europe this is simple. The green light has forward arrows to tell you the green only applies for going forwards, and your right turning lane has a full red yellow green traffic light, all with right arrows. Or, alternatively, you have a flashing yellow with a right hand arrow to tell you to give way which turns into a solid green right arrow when the other way has a red light. The UK seriously needs to sort out traffic lights.

At around 7:57 with the van skipping the queue and going around you. It never ceases to amaze me how some drivers will find all sorts of "creative" ways to get ahead of you.

At around 6:26. I hope the Golf driver got the message that Ashley was not happy with his tailgating, considering that Ashley pointedly moved to Lane 1 to let the Golf past and then immediately moved back to lane 2 again.

At around 9:27 with Ashley's suggestion to let the impatient "beeper" past and then sound your own horn at each set of lights to give them a taste of their own medicine. Even better if you can see the lights for the cross traffic turn red...and then beep in anticipation of your lights changing to green but whilst they are still red!

Cyclists out in force here today.. Saw a few cars in front gave up waiting and do a close pass. I don’t let it get to me but I can understand why some drivers get wound up. If it’s just the occasional cyclist so be it, but when you encounter about 6 groups on one short journey locally, that could wind up some drivers. Compounded by hills slowing them down to walking speed.

At 14:21, some of the worst professional drivers are Highway Maintenance contractors, which is ironic considering they are at most risk of being hurt from bad driving when they work on the roads.

It was a classic mistake at 6:26. You were more interested in Golf than the actual space. Having moved in well, you then moved back out, yet the road space in lane one was much larger. This is a very common behaviour; I often see vehicles on multi-lane roads a good distance until they move lanes to overtake.

I found a lot of instructions were very reluctant or were nervous about taking control of the steering wheel to correct pupils. Regarding the police driver, I think it’s a case of don’t do what I do, do as I say. I have spoken to 2 police vehicle drivers recently about their poor driving and all I got was a blank look, as if they didn’t know what I was talking about.

I suspect the police driving methods which are totally drummed into police drivers, different somewhat from learners. Ergo what would fail a learner would pass a police driver in many cases (not necessarily all- they are still human and humans take risks/shortcuts)
@alanhindmarch4483
@alanhindmarch4483 2 месяца назад
@@paulkeith9680 I think you are quite wrong, as the police are supposed to show an example. Not take it upon themselves to just do as they like. The average response police officer driver, has to show a standard simulator to a IAD standard and Traffic Police Officers, far beyond that standard.

Just some comments on the merging vehicles on the left at 12:15. If you're on a motorcycle, it's not a bad idea TO change to the rightmost lane if it's empty. Because, this creates a safety buffer between you and merging vehicles. You're less obvious on a motorbike, so you want to create space where possible. The act of changing lanes also creates lateral motion, which makes you more visible in the mirrors of other road users.

At around 8:28, I don't think we will ever have a driving fail video that doesn't include at least one clip of a multi lane roundabout fail.
@ibs5080
@ibs5080 2 месяца назад
At around 6:51 with the mini roundabout, I felt it didn't help matters that the colour of the roundabout circle blends in with the road surface. Yes I know, even with a white painted central roundabout island, folks will still drive over it but I think the situation is made worse here. Have to also say, I don't think North American style "All Way Stops" would ever work in the UK, with drivers totally ignoring the requirement to actually come to a full stop and instead, trying to beat each other through such a junction.

At around 5:43 with Ashley on the motorbike and a Golf too close behind, so Ashley understandably slows early. Some drivers just cannot handle that. It's often as if they are saying "How dare you not tailgate the vehicle in front of you when I'm tailgating you"!

Very few people check their mirrors before overtaking. They are completely fixed on looking around whatever they need to overtake so you have to be so careful if your going to overtake multiple vehicles. You also have to be careful of people pulling out of side roads as they get fixated on looking to their right and rarely look left before starting to move. Awareness and observation does seem really poor on the uk roads.

The red van, I hope, completed that manoeuvre to get themself out of the yellow box behind the MG. Maybe not the best fix, but I partially respect their thought behind it. If they weren't following so close they wouldn't have been stuck in the yellow box or had to complete that manoeuvre!

8:25 can someone explain how lanes works in this? The right lane must always go into the most right lane? The road marking is not clear where the two lanes continues when they become three at runabout. Someone might think they were in second lane, thus at runabout they stay at second lane.

The sounding of the horn at your learner when they were at the temp lights. I found that entertaining but of course, if it's a learner, I'd give them space and time to get moving. At least a few minutes if needed. Learners need time to get going and we experienced drivers need to help them in effect

11:27 You're absolutely right about not beeping. The only thing it could potentially do, is cause road rage. I've seen people turn around to chase after people that beeped them before. It's just not worth it. There's no benefit to you, so just don't beep and let it go.
