I love that they are not going to fuck around when it comes to bringing a hammer down on RMT. I watched what it did to New World. I hope they are successful, seeing things like this is just another indicator I'm seeing of this games massive potential. I really hope they pull this project off.

Awesome Vid with some great points :D Really hoping to see this in action as soon as possible.

There are several mechanics that AoC has that will help prevent the economic collapses that you forecast. 1. There will not be unlimited gathering. They have a mechanic whereby over farming anything causes a slowdown in gatherable resources respawning. It doesn't matter how many people are gathering, those farmable resources will have a maximum production rate over time, so potentially production growth (and therefore supply price deflation can never happen). 2. Gold does not drop from mobs, glint does. And the conversion rate from glint to gold can be variable. By the end game, I fully expect the amount of glint you have to trade for gold will be excessive. 3. Node currency will be a thing. In order to buy from a node you will need to own that node's currency. That will be valued against gold. By creating an exchange rate, the value of gold can fluctuate, and gold itself, become almost valueless. Although on the one hand, gold has the advantage of being convertible into any node currency, on the other hand, it might not have real purchasing power on its own. Each node will then have it's own economy. 4. Every citizen will have to pay taxes to be citizens of a node, whether they live in a tavern, or a freehold. That is a gold sink, and need not be fixed price. As the value of that node citizenship goes up, so will the tax. Once again the tax rate for node membership can be variable, so is therefore the gold sink variable. All I have to do is set the total tax payable, to be equal to the gold value of everything produced or farmed in that node (whether it is by members of the node or not), and I have a zero sum economy, by definition.**** 5. If I create a margin in node currency exchange rates, Intrepid can "Persuade" nodes to not trade in gold, but instead deal in node currencies. Buying something with gold may well become almost impossible by the end game. I am just spouting what I remember from my A-Level economics high school classes, If they really have a PHD economist in charge of the economy (who is worth the title), believe me they can make gold-selling a complete waste of effort. **** This might be a really important. First of all if the tax scales by node citizenship as well, it limits the population of a node and therefore zerg guilds/nodes/factions. Secondly, it creates a method whereby a node that is popular even to non-citizens, it will collapse under its own weight, so that the citizens can't afford their taxes. You create a natural mechanic by which nodes can collapse, and you have an unlimited end game. It would also provide a PvP guild/Node with an incentive to play defense, keeping non-citizens out lest they destroy the economy of their node.

Logging player activity is something any multiplayer game where the client depends on the server could do, this includes every MMO out there (except NW at launch XD). Same with active GMs. But they don't because it's expensive. I actually work with servers, so I'm not pulling this off my ass, I've been told a few times to reduce necessary logging to cut costs on workforce, hardware and traffic. The point is, Ashes, having no box price and no p2w, on top of a big dev team, will most likely generate less revenue than most MMOs there. So will they really be able to keep the logging and GMs up? I don't know, for now it's a neat idea, but until the game is out and running, and they get the numbers, it's just that, copium.

If you get rid of player to player trade and make it all through a marketplace that should be a good way to limit RMT. And at the same time take a page out of Last Epochs book. You can still trade between friends when you play often together an item drops let's u trade gear between friends.

I am interested in whether Intrepid can solve the long-standing war. It would be interesting if you could land an interview with someone on the security side of Intrepid to do a deeper dive.

I hope they can figure it out and pull it off. This was a major factor for me losing alot of gameplay/passion for WoW back in the day. It simply ruins most MMORPGS and nothing will stop people/regions from attempting to make $$$ exploiting anything they can.

Active GMs constantly monitoring the chat and participating in the game with other players enforcing the rules all the time, there will never be any issues with RMT and Bots. I hope they all get banned instantly so they have to BUY an unban or forever lose their accounts

So Steven is wrong here. Auction House Goldsell tracking is like 1 of maybe 50 ways people RMT. 1. You buy gold on website, they trade you items worth the total, you sell, have gold. 2. Join guild, they mask by giving all the player in said guild a ton of gold, they give it back, then the buyer gives back then gets it returned. creating a smokescreen. 3. Drop offs. invite ot guild or party, put items/gold in chest or box, buyer picks up. no trade happens. there are a ton of ways to RMT and unfortunatley Intrepid has answered some, but has the wrong outlook on a couple points. Powerleveling, Spot on. But... What if a guild is powerleveling a new player vs a gold buyer? how do you differentiate? very difficult. Where RMT will happen most is Large Nodes, or Econ nodes, or Guild Leaders with tax money to RMT. I still stand by the idea of Banning gold buyers, but a different kind of honeypot. intrepid buying gold and tracking up the trade chain to find the head honchos and wiping the account and publicly shaming them. "John Doe of AOCGoldFarmers.com has been hacked, we are now tracking you" that name is gone and tainted now. its not perfect but its better. What they should ABSOLUTLEY NOT do, is have thie rown in game gold sales mechanic. Like wow tokens or PLEX in eve. It will only make the black market larger.

Im in a guild where we want to help smaller guilds Or players do raids or harder content. And help bigger guilds do stuff like caravan runs. But the premise is that they would need to „buy“ our service or at least pay it in some kind of way. In the guild I’m in we are also planing to hunt down corrupted players so they can’t reek havoc around the map. Would that „buying our service“ count as gold trading ?

But there is a chance to sell whole accounts? Then its easy to „sell“ gold?

Is this my first comment here? I believe so... discovered your channel recently, first of all kudos to you for the good content, greetings from Germany. To be completely honest, I have mixed feelings about this. You don't need to tell me why RMT is bad, the point I'm talking about is way more subjective and egoistic 😁 Around 2008, I used to live in Lineage 2, putting in 12h+ shifts, playing in top clans, holding castles and pwning left and right. IRL, I was indeed single and broke AF. Fast-forward to today (waiting for Ashes since around 2019), I have a decent full-time job in software engineering, a family, do a little freelance as a side hustle, and I'm also coding a little Ashes-related hobby project as a way to combine upskilling / learning new stuff with my firm belief in Intrepid and the game. What I don't have much of is spare time. So it does indeed sound tempting to support those SEA / Latin American / African folks who farm MMO gold for a living with a grand or two and cut some corners. On the flip side, I know that I'm in for the long run, I have no expectations to be "the pwn3r" again and I'm also fully aware of the implications of widespread RMTing in an MMO. But maan, does this corner-cutting sound tempting 😂Anyone else willing to admit the same? ;)

RMT is great. Allowing it would keep the economy alive for decades. Banning it will do nothing.
