I usually like Diane Sawyer's interjections - they're well placed and are aesthetically coherent with the larger interview, but man oh man was this irritating. Can you please let HER tell us the story?
This makes me question if this is more about opportunity, exposure and carer climbing on Ashley's part due to her bipolar, Double standard Trump/Weinstein flip flops - from "attacking and grandstanding" to "pias forgiving and understanding" What??? Here, Ashley's "Keepers" are interviewing her "steering" the narrative to just Harvey and not Hollywood THE REAL PROBLEM!!!. And given any opportunity, Hollywood will deflect the anger and backlash toward Trump instead of one of their boyz like DeNiro. Now. Watch how Hollywood cowardly pile on dropping names of less popular powerful more "Conservative" figures like Bill O’Reilly and Roger Ailes or Bill Cosby to claim their place on the "Hollywood Hypocrite High Ground" Meanwhile MSM/Hollywood avoids the "A Listers" like Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin, Terry Richardson, Chris Savino, Child rapist Roman Polanski, (Given a Standing Ovation at the Oscars By all the Hollywood Hypocrites????) to name a few.. Everybody Knows these people. Hypocrites!!!!!!!
and I suppose you are the perfect guy, you are the moron, a F'n moron, you sound like a trump supporter. These women couldn't help where they were born and who they were born to, the big thing is what they have done with their lives!!
My heart aches for every woman AND man who has had to “compromise” in order to put food on the table and roof over their heads. This is about power and the abuses of it. I pray that every human being will find dignity in their lives.
I not lessoning what happened the actors but the chose the dark side to become famous and stay famous. Mira Sorvino said no to the Hollywood be abuser's and because her actions shi was blacklisted.
Disrespectful? Oy vey you're one of those pussies who gets offended huh? My advice is cut the shit! Its people like you who force others to walk on eggshells to cater to your sensitivity.
Excellent job would have been to publicly warn others not to be victims! I liked her before this. She acted ok to defend herself , but no respect for putting her interest first and now coming with comments and people see her like a victim, she was not one ...please
Thank you, Ashley, for speaking out! You are absolutely right -- shame is a crippling cancer for people who have been victimised. We need to create an environment that supports, encourages and emboldens victims to speak out against injustice, not criticise them.
Thank you for this. It's never your fault. Do not blame the victim blame the perpetrator! To those who refuse to have empathy is sad. I am I survivor or rape and I was able to stay alive. I was threatened and told if I EVER told anybody he would kill me and my animals. I was frozen and terrified. I had to block out what he was doing to me because it was so horrifying and I knew I would die if I could have tried to escape. He told me he would kill my dog if she did not stop jumping on him. My dog finally came and laid her head on my shoulder. I just remember looking into my dogs eyes as he raped me as tears ran down my face. I had to hold my breath to endure the horror and pain. You people that haven't had this done to you will never understand how terrifying it is. How much strength it takes to get through every single day sometimes. Please don't judge anybody that has been raped, sexually harassed or beaten. Don't chose to be part of the problem. Chose to be part of the solution and support all that have endured these horrific situations.
I feel for the victims, it is so unfair and Immoral. however, I don't think he is the only predator in Hollywood, it has probably been going on since the movie industry started. It's so sad that actresses like in this case who want to get on in the business and have talent, have to be subjected to such perversion. I'm glad Ashley was brave enough to stand up and speak out, not just for herself, but for other actresses. This kind of thing must stop.
@Bloody Kisses Everyone knows about the casting couch. It is nasty, but if you want fame and fortune enough to pay that price to get there quick......that is the route some people choose to take. It's a little too late to wait until you have that fame and fortune to speak out. If I laid eyes on HW in person, I would have run like the devil was behind me. He looks like he would try to have sex with anything that moves. He looks like a perv and didn't even try to hide it. There are rules if one wants to become rich and famous. Meryl Streep called that creep 'god'. They know. Too bad someone didn't kick him you know where and run away screaming for help. He should have been stopped long ago!!
Super proud of you Ashley!!! Super proud of all the women speaking out! We need each other for this to stop. Let's keep showing the young girls how to react with confidence and strength when they feel paralyzed. You are amazing!!!!! Thank you!
The things is that when things like that happen, you get in shock mode and your mind reacts in stupid ways. But that's part of being traumatized. Plus these predators are experts on intimidation and using their power.
I have wondered what happened with some these actresses, especially the ones that seemed to have a lot of momentum, Ashley was really gaining steam in the 90s, and then she was gone pretty much. It explains a lot.
Way did she stay or they stay Job you can loose your job y’all wanted fame liars Ashley you have offer your self to anyone and everyone to vote against Trump
@annamal pete I'm a survivor of a serial predator. I heard many stories from my co workers and friends where the habits were the same. Power, manipulation, control and the "I'll win no matter what you say to police. And I'll make you known to be a whore at your next job interview." Or even the threat to take employment away period were all factors. You should NOT be threatened with anything over coming forward but it happened even in a small town in America. Some came forward and some didn't out of fear. Many of the abusers friends were arrested for victim harassment and intimidation after the police were involved. We all need an steady income to live and the minute Someone threatens you with that over something that isn't your fault is morally and ethically wrong (and in some states, illegal). This problem isn't just in Hollywood, it's everywhere. How would you feel if you had to start all over because someone did something horrendous to You? Where are you going to go? How are you going to thrive? Do you have the costs it takes to move? An offender should NEVER have that kind of power over your life but ask anyone who specializes in sexual abuse and they will tell you that they're usually highly manipulative, will brainwash and use other tactics against you from saying anything. So right back into the power and control most rapists have, are you going to let one person on this planet of the thousands you'll meet dictate your life?
I love Ashley Judd! I always wondered why they stopped putting her in movies (as well as many other actresses that suddenly disappeared). We get all these new stars (personally, not all of them are my cup of tea) with no mention of those movie stars we've come to love and appreciate.
I love Ashley Judd. She is beautiful, smart, articulate and very dedicated to being the good person that she is. This is an open and honest interview and should deliver a resounding message to women of all ages...don't be fooled ..listen to your gut!
A gentleman I loved dearly, once warned me to never put myself in a compromising position or situation. I was young and naive but knew it was good advice. No judgement here. Glad you found your voice and glad people are finally listening.
I get it. Females have to first look out for themselves. Sometimes, tho, it happens anyway. That is why we warn girls ; because we know things. God has given me insights at times into a man's psyche...it scares me. We females just don't think or can imagine what goes on in the minds of men. Not all men are bad. But there are way more than there should be. Trust God who gives us instinct. He knows. He has always warned me. Like a protective, wise, & loving father.
@@juliedeane4327 victimization knows no gender! How does anybody see predatory behavior as anything but what it is. The term casting couch was coined long before any of this. Meetings in hotel rooms generally would be a clue. Do I see her as victim yes! By all means. Hollywood all together is created upon a bunch of lies. How we feel about ourselves is often based on the same thing. People who feel like they have power over you in any way think little of you from the get go. Then they do everything in their power to prove it.
Ashley is incredible. She is such a wonderful human being. Diane is insufferable. Why do we have to hear Diane when we want to hear Ashley. Ashley's beauty is a shining light on everyone.
I see so many comments asking why they didn't report it but to understand why, to truly understand why someone does not report sexual assault or rape, I think you need to have walked in those shoes because the emotions that come after are a mixed bag of shame, embarrassment, guilt, fear, worthlessness and low self esteem; it makes you question your role in ways you would have never done so before such as whether or not you could have done something differently or why you 'let' this happen when in fact, you didn't 'let' anything happen. Having been sexually assaulted and raped as a teenager, I personally know the mental and emotional nightmare such events create and unfortunately, in many ways, that nightmare never ends. It is such a vicious and mentally tormenting trauma and the worst kind of violation. It left me broken in every way imaginable and to this day, 20 years later, I still struggle, I still question myself and my actions even tho realistically I can now conclusively say to myself it was not my fault. And 20 years later I am still paying the consequences of their actions. Long story extremely condensed, it was the event which caused the break up of my family, my leaving home at 16, dropping out of school (although I did go back eventually and finish, even struggling my way thru college financially because I no longer had a family). Before it I played sports, played several musical instruments, was in a symphony orchestra, was looking toward a scholarship in lieu of the above and in a moment, everything changed. Everything I loved, including myself, was gone. I went from being that girl who could've done anything to being homeless, a drop out, experimenting with drugs and it was almost as if I had a V for victim tattooed on my forehead because I was so lost, empty, vulnerable and young and predators can spot someone like me from a mile away. All to say this; don't judge from what you don't understand. Instead, ask questions, learn and try to see things from another's perspective because prior to I would have said similar things. I am only able to speak now because in order to cope, I too had to find another perspective, a perspective that allowed and continues to allow me to try and help others who haven't yet found their way back.
Whitney Davenport I can't imagine what that must be like, nor can I blame anyone for not coming forward. I'm smart enough to know that I have no frame of reference. How others think they can make value judgements from afar is really incredible. We also are beginning to see that victims of abuse often act in counter intuitive ways, and psychologically this might be completely normal in those abnormal conditions. But this is then used against them.
Whitney Davenport - from my experience, a lot of people who are strongly judgmental over others who don’t immediately report are the ones who also have been assaulted (or nearly) and too action right away. For a while, I was was one of those people until I was roughly 18 or 19, and met others (men and women) who had been assaulted and didn’t do anything about it from fear and shame. From that point on, I was able to see and learn to understand the other perspectives. I was almost assaulted when I was 14. Random act, stranger. He grabbed me and tried to pin me to the ground. Thankfully, I was at the right angle after I was spun around and punched him in the throat. I ran to the police station and reported it (there’s a long story there that revolves another topic), and they took me seriously. For those 4 to 5 years, I was so judgmental over people who couldn’t just do something about it if someone tried to or did harm them. After learning about those other assaults when I got a bit older, I’ve been able to understand the shame someone can feel, also how stupid my attacker was, and just how lucky I was to get away. Sadly I still know people who are just as judgmental as I used to be. They just can’t grasp the concept of ignoring the shame and ignoring the judgement potentially place on the victim to take action. Hopefully our society/societies can expand the educational side of these matters. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels we all could benefit from learning about such things, instead of reacting to the aftermath all the time.
Ashley Judd has my full support on this. Through this interview, I was able to see a glimpse of how & why she has done certain things. I pray for you Ashley Judd. May God protect you along with the many other victims both past & present.
No one could stop him. They went to the police and were not believed. They told others and their careers ended. He ruined careers. So get off your high horse. Criminals protect their own.
If you don't get an acting job, you don't get money, you don't get known, you don't get power. If you are blacklisted in the industry, you are finished. For years people put down Corey Feldman for speaking out about his abuse. There were alot of jobs he didn't get because he did speak out. It cost him.
How has this interviewer had a career for so long! Every interview I've seen with her she has been horrendous! Rude and full of herself! Why is she talking over Ashley Judd, I can't watch it all, terrible!
The voice-over is a propaganda technique. The #metoo frenzy is Diane's opportunity to experience justice on her deceased husband, Movie Director Mike Nichols, sexcapades with the multitude of wanna be actresses.
Tears are for the fact that she told Harvey she would give him sex “if”she won an Academy Award......and she tells us this was sexual assault...she played the game....and felt powerful!
I love Ashley Judd's acting and this explains why she vanished from the screen. The comments on this are astounding. Such a shame that even when women come forward the blame still gets put on them.
Do you not think if she had spoken up at the time, it may have saved others from his clutches ? People are blaming the timing of her claims not the action
Silver Girl - I think she's getting a hard time as, She had the biggest platform and even spoke on the subject of Sexual Assault the now infamous 'I'm a Nasty Woman' speech was an opportunity to reach millions, for the right reasons. She chose not to. Weinstein is a POS who if guilty should be jailed, for each and every offence. Victims of this whether female or male should not be ashamed they did nothing wrong
We need to change the way we speak about this subject. It's always..." How many women\ teenage girls were raped in the State of say NY last year?" Instead of " How many men raped women\ teenage girls? The term "Abuse against women is problematic because it's something that happened to them rather than it being something a man did to a woman. ....How many women fall victim to domestic violence?.... It should be stated..How many MEN caused domestic violence against a woman? Let's call it what it is!!
Steph Fett What are you talking about “first date?” She was going to his room for a role. She was not dating Weinstein. 2:30 ...she chose to GO UP TO HIS ROOM.
As a young woman working in retail I was sexually harassed by an older manager I worked under. If I had been smarter I should of sued the store. It was a scary time. He harassed all the young woman in his employ. He was a grandfather figure. He got away with it!!!!
My heart goes out to Ashley, and all those women. I just wish Ashley’s forgiveness and attitude was that way with everyone. Her actions towards the people who don’t have her same beliefs has been horrific. I wish her the best, and pray for her healing and for all those who’ve been violated.
Although I never personally experienced sexual advances from my former boss, I witnessed other ladies I worked with being harassed. He didn't even try to hide it which really amazes me. He was so blatant about it. I did, however, receive verbal abuse regarding my weight time and time again, and would yell and berate me in front of people, threaten to send me home one time for accidentally opening up his mail, etc. After nearly 5 years of this, I finally found the courage to leave. I admire her and these other women for coming forth. God Bless them. 🙏
I'm wondering when Oprah and/or Gail are going to do a story on him, like they did with Michael Jackson and R. Kelly! All of these predators need to prosecuted. Kudos to Ashley Judd, she took the high-high road! She put that demon down in prayer.
Oh please, no warning! Such a liar, everyone knows in those circles who the vile ones are just like us regular folks in our communities know who are the monsters amongst us.
If it wasn't for the fact that her mother and sister were able to financially take care of her, I can see no obstacles other than her own ego and greed that stopped her from exposing him a long time ago. Not to absolve that scumbag of his own behavior, but too many of these women get a free pass for doing nothing when they certainly could have.
I agree. The casting couch is a choice people make to receive fame and fortune. Stay away from it if you don't want to be the victim of this predator. HW is a perv and low life - so stay away from him!!
There are thousands of Weinsteins out there in other professions. Their victims already know they won't be believed. These CEOs are above the law and they know that. Remember the woman with the last name Farmer who went to the FBI over 10 years before we knew who Epstein was. Nothing happened. Remember Dr Nasser who penetrated gymnasts when they went to see him for a sprained ankle as part of their ": treatment". Do you see how many enablers these people had? Prince Andrew, president Clinton, president trump, Hilary Clinton, Lisa Bloom? Why would Darryl Hannah step forward? And their famous. It's the women in not so glamorous positions who are true victims and must stay in jobs to feed their children. The mother of one of the gymnast didn't believe her own daughter. The Roman Catholic Church pedophile scandal? Victims who stepped forward were spit upon. No one could believe a man " of God"; could harm a child. Guess what? Even as mother Teresa said to ab victim of a priest who donated large sums of money to her called the victim a liar. Maria Kennedy Shriver Schwarzenegger asked the women who came out to speak about the sexual harassment they endured on movie sets ( I know 2: waitresses) why they were coming out NOW when Schwarzenegger was running for governor. WOMEN HAD BEEN SPEAKING OUT FOR DECADES. Who is going to believe them NO ONE! The housekeeper who was impregnated by swartzeggar used to go to church with Maria. She died her hair blonde to be more attractive to him while she partook of the eucharist accompanied by Maria. Nothing will change for most. Most working class women do not have a voice. It's called REALITY.
I alway thought, what happened to her career. She was so talented and a force in the movies. Then she was gone. He killed her career. Because I saw so many movies that I felt would of be perfect for her. Shame on Harvey for using women like objects to play with. That man is very dangerous. He should be in jail.
Ashly is indeed beautiful. She has been blessed with looks and smarts. I’m a big fan. Ashly always look to Jesus He will NEVER FAIL YOU! God Bless You!
Growing up in the 40s and 50s women did not tell about abusers.Even in the 60s only probably about half was reported. They would shame and embarrass the woman and make it all her fault. Im sure that alot of Pedofiles and Sex Abusers and even ones who Physically abuse are even getting away with it now.
I'd read tons of the comments, and I probably found out why they kept quiet for years, cause first of all, the predator is powerful and rich as fxxk to control the legal system to cover up what they did, and secondly, just like most the comments that I read, saying that those women traded their sexual favor to advance their career, that's maybe why those victim kept quiet for years, cause they believed that nobody is gonna believe them anyway....
But they DID trade sex for advancement. That was the game! Hollywood has always been this way. Now, they want to omit the idea of their compliance from the story. That's why the stores do not make sense. Everytime they get to a part that would reveal their compliance or aggression they say things like, "I don't remember" or "It happened so fast." You look like a gorgeous women in the pic and many men I am sure would love to seduce you but the attempt to do so cannot be a crime! This is CRAZY!.
Maybe a few. I think Some of these women were a big enough deal to have been believed and by them not coming forward then rather than waiting to jump on the bandwagon now they could have saved a few victims. No good being a hero now . Just makes me angry for the poor unknown victims .
John Hood they didn't trade at all mate... he used his power to take advantage of them... being a man, you're unlikely to understand this from a Weinstein victim's perspective.
And what would the cops do? Been there done that. They would maybe say 'you dodged a bullet' and even be pissed that their time was wasted when they could be dealing with "real" crime.
I was approached by a family friend petaphile at the tender age of 4 and found the strength to run away and tell my Mom which resulted in never seeing him again. I was then approached by two of my Brothers and male cousin at different ages from 8 to 12 which I again told my Mother. I understand the paralyzing fear that this can cause while it's happening but remember that we always have the choice of speaking out even if they threaten to hurt others in your family if you tell what happened . I'm living proof that it IS POSSIBLE. Just think of how young I was when all this happened and still knew how WRONG THIS WAS!
That was a good prayer.... like the bible says Don't hate the person.... you may hate what they're doing.... but don't hate the person. What a lady. She is the best
Any woman who goes somewhere with a man she doesn’t know is doing it at her own risk and should know better. Period. She should have said something immediately!
I LOVE ASHLEY JUDD AND HAVE LOVED HER SINCE HER START IN HOLLYWOOD ON STAR TREK TNG. WHAT BRAVE WOMAN TO FINALLY COME FORWARD ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I APPLAUD HER.
It's really sad what happened to her. Unfortunately, she is damaged goods in the movie and TV business. It was no fault of her own either. I hope she sues Weinstein for everything she can get.
Mothers teach your daughters at a young age to know and recognize abuse. My Mother never had this conversation with me and I have had many incidents of abuse and did not know how to handle it.. when it happens it's such a shock. I wish I knew then what I know now. I would call them all out on their abuse. That's the only way to stop them. Please speak up. Thanks to all the women that have and will
Yep, me too. I don’t condone what he did, it’s horrific. But, her fake-ness is glaring at me like a blinking neon sign. She portrayed disgusting behavior at that women’s march. This “crusade” of hers didn’t help victims of s*xual abuse, it was motivated by politics. That whole “me too” movement was just a display of demons turning on each other. Now, it’s a thing of the past. It’s no longer a “cool look” to be part of it.
Trading sex for anything is, by any legal or moral definition, prostitution. He wasn't the only Director in town, acting in movies is not the only career, and Hollywood isn't the only city in this country.
It's hard for me to understand how she can 'love' Harvy Weinstein and hate Donald Trump and his supporters. Something does not add up. Add that to her complete advocacy for abortion......what a ball of confusion.
When she was told you'll need to go up to his room, that's when She should have turned around and walked out the door. What NORMAL person would go up to a Man's room for a meeting.. Not Me, but guess she really needed a job ... Bless Her Heart
