Of all the Ashley MacIsaac videos on RU-vid this one is my favourite. One of the greatest Canadian musicians - and fiddlers, period - in history, no doubt whatsoever. And props to his guitar accompanier....very fine job.
I watched this man shred MULTIPLE bows at a show several years ago in Minneapolis. This was after we sat together at our table in club and shared a libation! Great guy and such a joy and pleasure to experience!
Would love to hear him live! Was blessed to hear Glen Hansard’s band play with fiddler Colm Mac Con Iomaire. This was a spiritual experience. Felt the presence of my grandpa at Massey Hall.
I'm very, very happy that lots of people have enjoyed this video and that I havn't been sued or otherwise shut down, for sharing it. It is really nice.l
Ashley is a hot fiddler as is his cousin, Natalie MacMaster. They are a niece and nephew of, the Master, Buddy Mac Master. They bring to us some of the best fiddle music in the world. Thank you so much for keeping our heritage and culture alive. You are at the top of the peak, although it is is crowded with other greats like your uncle Buddy , Winston Scotty Fitzgerald, and a few hundred (maybe 1,000's) others.
Yay! Ashley is magic indeed! I had the pleasure of seeing him live, several years back, and, quite frankly, I never saw anything like that before! From the first moment, 'til the end, I was mesmerized! I never saw anyone before, who, was so 'one' with their instrument, and played like a man possessed! Fantastic!! :)
Yes Markin. That is clearly young Quinn Bachand. His regular gig is backing his sister on fiddle. Quinn is also a fiddler and probably plays other insturments as well. Good to see Ashley MacIsaac as well -- great video. You certainly have your share of great fiddlers there in Canada. Ward Allen may have been the best ever.
Ashley and his style got me into Celtic music. Sure there are world class violinists out there - but not in bars. This is fiddle music, and no pub wants a 'violinist' on the east coast, simply because they cannot command a roomful of rowdy drunks on their side. He always puts on a great show. In a case of bluecollar vs whitecollar, I have a lot of respect for people who don't walk with their nose high and actually want to entertain (working class) people who want to let loose and get wild on the town. I would think a symphony player in a bar setting would be the one who some guy named Bubba is literally using to mop the beer soaked floors with. He's also very active toward equal rights in the LGBT community as well as the homeless. Keep doing just what you're doing Ashley, and great work at the Olde Triangle before Christmas!
Mark - this video is awesome - thank you so much for sharing it! i love ashley since he was small and touring around cape breton island! he used to be bouncing all over the stage - i'm sure he must have fallen off a few times cuz no one is that lucky - bahahahah! but he's still got the busted strings flying around all over the place and that foot banging and tapping and then he yanks his neck on certain chords! and that young guy Quinn, oh holy heck he must be from the island, too! again thank you for sharing!
love this, i stumbled on it by accident, boy i'm glad i did, this is real old-time fiddle playing like my grandpa used to play, thank you so much for posting this!
Thanks for posting these videos. I took video of the their entire performance but of course I can't do anything with it until I get back home to Victoria which won't be until July 18th. Marie Bachand (Quinn's mom)
Thanks, so much for your comment Dan. It was a great show put on by the boys, which everyone enjoyed a lot. I must thank the guys at Westbury National Show Systems for supplying the "live audio feed". I'd worked for them in the past and they were extremely helpful. It was a fantastic night of dining and music for everyone that attended.
Excellent! I think it would be nice to give some recognition to the guitarist -- is that one of the Blanchards? I'm not sure who it is but he did a magnificent job as well!!!
I am so happy that everyone enjoys this video. You really don't know just how much, as being a camera-man, I can't walk anymore... So very few video's will get posted. It's always great to hear some feedback. Hugzz... Mark
I'm so sorry to see some rather nasty comments left by visitors. But, I'd best leave them posted to show that ignorance and homophobia still actually still exist even towards such talented performers (AND a great many others). One day, all that shit will end. But, let us all enjoy the moment and relax and unwind. Mark Blans/Videographer.And for all the "haters out there", I say you'd best post YOURSELF doing something much better, before you trample on others that have walked that path before you. Until you do so, you are all just garbage, nonsense talking hillbillies (no insult meant to hillbillies), that would truly be insulting to all those good folks. I only mean it, in the common phrase that it's used in. Get over all your preconceived ideas of life and move on folks. Be well, take care of yourselves, families and most importantly take care of yourself! Mark.
Quinn Bachand & here is his channel, check out the videos, there are a few with Ashley from performances at Mariposa, Cavendish Beach, Vancouver, Australia tour and more.
Your more than welcome! If you'd like a DVD of the really high-quality footage, send me a e-mail and we can make arrangements for that. The footage I shot is much better than what the Internet allows for. Mark
It makes me happy to see another lefty fiddler, like me. And Ashley is just so dang talented that he shows everyone that not only can a southpaw play a lefty violin but can play dang well.
Dear Guitarboy, you master the guitar mate! But there is one little thing about coolness what you have to learn in my point of view. "Sometimes a guitarrist should better take a seat unless he REALLY moves while playing and with moving I do not mean only teeter with your lags..." Keep on playing!
Just let's be happy. No, Ashley is NOT Natalie MacMaster in drag. Scots of Nova Scotia's gift of young talent aside. After all, what comes after Don Messer and Anne Murray????
he is a really good guitar player- just he needs to do something about whatever he is doing with his knees- as a musician I find it incredibly distracting.
....nah! overblown.......HYPE... (like him! ha ha )seen better.......symphony violinist can wipe the floor with him....HE DRAGS ON AND ON would drive me insane listening all day to that...........
+Luke Gibson You don't understand the music at all, a symphony violinist plays as many if not more repetitive maneuvers as him. It's just more drawn out and not as rhythmically packed like this which is purposefully repetitive because it was made to accompany dancers.
