When my parents retired they relocated to Mabou FOR THE MUSIC! Almost every home had a piano and a fiddle whether they played or not. Spontaneous house parties just spring up when talent stops by. It's one of the most special places I've been to in my life. And shout out to The Red Shoe, the heartbeat of Mabou!

For three years I have been studying the fiddle and violin artists and in my opinion no one exceeds Jerry Holland. The amazing thing about his style is he does everything wrong according to the "experts", he holds the bow wrong, he holds his left hand wrong, not straight. Aren't we glad he did it his way! No one plays more beautifully.

I took up fiddling because of Jerry Holland. It's that simple.

I was at this concert and was very moved by the whole experience. Jerry was a humble musician, who never outgrew his trousers; he always remembered his fans, of whom I am one, and he had a good sense of humor. I remember telling him about how, back in the old days, fiddlers were sex symbols, and why (was it the motion to and fro of the bow...) and how he laughed when he heard this. Cape Breton will never be the same without him...

I'd like to say thank you to you Jerry for being a dear friend and mentor. Built my first house with Gerry. He was also a gifted carpenter as well as Fiddler. Miss him dearly.Jerry Jr was still a baby then. Nice to see him playing with his Dad. We must sit and talk about the ole man some day. Love and respect.

No one could every play his tune with the feeling he put into it -- it was magic. I was in the second row for this performance -- I think his bone cancer had just been discovered and there was still a lot of hope. What an incredible loss....

What a gracious and heartwarming man. I keep coming back to this to remind me why I keep struggling on to learn the fiddle. So sad we lost him, but he continues to spread joy though his tunes and recordings...

I remember the young fellow with long hair and mustache as a member of the awesome Cape Breton Symphony on my very favorite John Allan Cameron Show on CTV during 1975. R.I.P., bro.

When I was 10 years old, I went to see Jerry after one of his shows. He took the time to talk to an inexperienced fiddler such as myself about violin strings, technique, and how to improve. I'll never forget it. EDIT: he used Thomastik-Infeld Superflexibles, for anyone wondering.

Master Cape Breton fiddler had a huge impact on me as a teen....always being into hard rock and metal the sound of my cranked up Marshall always drowned out the fiddle music my grandfather was playing upstairs.....when I heard jerry,it was instant love for the music.....the feel of that album was something different....something very special.....now I’m older and still love hard rock and metal.....but there’s nothing sweeter than a good set of Cape Breton tunes.....thanks jerry! RIP
