Rubenesque 😂 I am definitely going to describe myself as that
@stefanovon
@stefanovon 3 года назад
I discovered the name "rubenesque" that I completely ignored, some time ago in a video by Uncle Stu. I live in Italy and watch videos of him both as a motorcyclist and as a lover of the English language and all the linguistic nuances of it, as well as the various accents in the UK. Two birds with one stone ... :-)

That is one awesome Jacket and although their stuff is pricey, they look like lifetime pieces that are the top of great value for the money. I'm getting to that point in my life where I'm set on my style and well healed enough to invest the money when I purchase things. There are benefits to getting older outside of the alternative I guess, 😆. Great review 👍.

Nice jacket! And cracking review Stu. Alas, I may have to wait for the mkIII as I really need to buy a bike first to use with the jackets I already own 😁

What a tasty looking jacket! this sort of thing usually ends up been a copy of a Belstaff or Barbour, well done Ashley!

I guessed at 700 GBP, then checked your link. A bit more. All you might ever need as long as you don't ride in hot weather. But you are in England. I don't like it that much, although I accept it's an excellent bit of kit.

I don't think this would be much comfortable in the Indian summer, but feels very comfortable for our Himalayan and surrounding areas. Also that armor looks neat. P.s that look deserves a sword

Although I watch your videos mainly for the motorcycling, it's also a fantastic way of reminding myself just how beautiful the English countryside can be. East Yorkshire isn't my home territory - albeit an area I came to be very fond of while at college there in the '70s - I'm from further south and east. I might be in a minority in this opinion but I find England to be far more beautiful, in general, than the country in which I live, Thailand. Thailand's always described as 'beautiful' but I don't find that to be true, especially where I live, away from tourist areas. Keep giving us those lovely countryside views, Stu.

Used to be a Belfast wax jacket user, especially when commuting in the wet, soggy, winter months, not particular stylish but the best way of keeping the wet out. Throw a leg over my BMW R100RS, suitably weather proved sitting behind a then very well designed and stylish fairing. Did I look the part?, damn right I did! The only thing that was different was no armour.... we didn't have protection..the only protection we had, the kind the local barber sold with 'anything for the weekend sir'.. Did it make us more aware of the consequences of 'falling off' No! we never thought about it did we..Now we can be armoured akin to a Tiger Tank impervious to all but a direct hit Recent months contributing to your channel I've been pretty smug about you lot in UK always...seemingly...riding in wet conditions.... Well that smugness has come back to bite me on a particular part of the anatomy we've had a lot of rain over the last month or so.........Greetings from (wet) España Loved the sheep bleating and the birds twittering... very English countryside

Great review Stuart, own a few of Ashley’s motorcycle apparel………….thanks to you 😂. I hadn’t heard of the D30 ghost armour until just now, thanks for the info. I’m going to swap out my bulky D30 and change it for the Ghost in my Belstaff jacket.

Great quality jacket but small production run so an especially pricey bit of kit. I like to have a choice of kit dependant on weather and have a full goretex two piece suit from Hein Gericke (remember them?) which I picked up a few years ago as ‘last years model’ for half price (£350), full armour and has never leaked over several tours, a Revitt summer jacket (discounted in Autumn) after a scorching summer tour in France (last pre-pandemic excursion and the goretex suit was so uncomfortable - all vents open and half undone) and a Richa leather jacket...discounted on-line last Autumn from the virtual NEC and all within this jacket’s price. Comes down to where you live and ride and any regular longer excursions especially abroad. Caveat emptor as it can add up arriving at a ‘perfect’ choice of kit 😕

Beautiful jacket. Love Ashley Watson's clothing, but living in sweaty Virginia, not sure that the waxed canvas will work too well in the summer. Still, it's a classy jacket.

And very smart too! Having spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds over the years looking for the ultimate waterproof textile riding kit I too have come to the conclusion that waxed cotton is the only kit worth bothering with.

Is there anything different except the certification? Both original and MKII feature the same 8oz waxed canvas, full dynema lining, waterproof membrane, removable D3O armour, and is pretty much the same design. The only thing different seems the higher price for MKII.
@stuartfillingham
@stuartfillingham 2 года назад
LOL that difference in certification costs the manufacturer a hell of a lot of money to achieve as well as a vast unseen level of re engineering

An excellent jacket and a cracking solid review as always Stuart. Always one to get my money’s worth, I’d suggest that you could add a couple of bits of elastic and make the discarded neck protector into a Johnny Weissmuller type thong for strutting down the beach at Scarborough this Summer. Two garments for the price of one! Go on.....you know it makes sense! (Although please don’t upload the review) 😂😂😉😉. Cheers bud and have a good weekends riding! 👍

Hi uncle Stu, I’m huge fan of the channel the culture featuring there is beautiful but I had another question and I wanted your opinion. I have a 2017 Royal Enfield classic 500 in battle green and I was thinking about doing the front sprocket change that Hitchcock’s endorses which is an additional tooth on the front sprocket, I’m sure you’re familiar with this. What are your thoughts on this modification? Thank you for all you do to help us Nova Scotians keep our British motorcycles and attire looking and running their best.

big downside is that you may find it hinders hill climbing, there's always a trade off when you swap cogs!

Beautiful jacket. A bit out of my semi-retired price range. Love the style. I am currently looking for a new summer jacket with some style that doesn't look like it came out of Willy Wonka's plastic factory. I need something that that will work in 101F/38C temps. Ideas? Texas has long hot summers.

Have a word with your ‘model’ for me will you. It’s not acceptable to promote these unrealistic twig like body images, it ruins people’s self-confidence! How many times does one need to drop into the ‘just checking the time’ modelling stance 😉 nice looking jacket 👍
