I lowsided my K1300GT on a greesy spot on the highway exit, at around 60mph/100kph. Every piece of protective armour got scaved, Helite deployed. Stadler repaired the pants, jacket did not need repair, Neotec 2 had some scuff marks but was tested and oked. I got up, picked up the bike started and rode another 200 miles that same day. I know i got lucky but won't ride without full gear including helite.

30 yrs in A&E 5 yrs in motor racing as a trauma dr the best way to prevent injury is airbag . Armour doesn’t stop fractures this 8 why your car has airbag not level 2 armour . I used to see pelvic fractures on sports bike riders not harleydue to sudden stoppies and your pelvis hitting the petrol tank. It’s a shame only Honda has developed the airbag into the bike as it isn’t too difficult to do as airbag is powered off bike battery and the ecu can be carried easily in bike. Now manufacturers need to start developing airbags covering pelvis (the mo cycle jeans doNOT) and knees tibia, spine (your spine is square blocks in a double s shaped so hard armour does not stop vertebral injuries - but an airbag will conform and protect your spine )

Would be interested in your thoughts of the AlpineStars airtech air bags, the higher end ones for racing cover hips but the ones aimed at road riders don't

Hip joint but not pelvis the prob is a high side is high energy impact on the femur armour total waste of time airbag may reduce possibly prevent hip fracture . Hips r easy to repair pelvis NOT including potential impotency issues

Modern Casual urban clothing has came along way. Nowadays they are just as good if not better than textiles but leather is still better. Airbags are expensive but can save your life. Chest armour is important too.

You also need PPE gear you are comfortable in. Where I live summer temps are 35C plus while winter temps are 10C or less. Getting PPE for both summer and winter can be expensive but being excessively hot or cold when riding will cause lapses in concentration. It's worth the outlay to get the right gear for the season.

Having had an accident last September my with young son as pillion I attend to good gear. The only reason we were both in 1 piece was because of our gear. We got driven into the side of the bike and us thrown down the road. Our gear (full rst) saved our injurys being far worse

I should also add out accident was at about 28-30mph and my gear had to be cut off me by cornwall air ambulance. The car number and radiator destroyed my track tech boots but saved my ankle. My jeans were so badly damaged by traveling down the road with a bike pinning me to the road why traveling but they saved my skin. My lid looked like it had come off on a track day on 1 side and my jacket tore and wore through at seams and fore arms. And that's full RST gear. So thankful we were both wearing good gear otherwise its not worth thinking how bad it could be

Got 2 Sets of One Piece Leathers and a Pair of RST leather Trousers that I use with Non Expensive Armoured Jackets, Looking to get a Back Protector in the Future but the Amount I Spend on Kit Relates to the Amount of Miles I Ride Anually, (Barely 2000 Miles). QR Code is a Good Idea, Will Look into that. Akito Kit is Very Good for the Cost you Pay. If you want an Abrasion Comparison, ask any Cyclist, Including Myself, (Several Times) that has Slid Along the Bitumen for a Short Distance, It Does Hurt.

1: If you think an activity is dangerous, just don't do it. Simples. 2: Get the most expensive protective gear/PPE that *you can afford*. 3: You must replace said gear after a while. Mileage may vary, but fibre/cloth/leather/seals do all age, weaken, or perish. 4: What is the "fashion" of the day might not actually meet current official safety standards. Always check the label. 5: Rant over, have a great sunday everyone!

At Ma Bakers a cafe in Shropshire they asked for old motorcycling kit and held a sale. Cheap as chips, quality gear and the proceeds went to Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire blood bikes. Maybe you could arrange something similar down your way?

I definitely think you need abrasion resistant clothing for the inevitable road rash, I'm less than convinced about thin armour like that D3 stuff. If you put a broom stick in your demonstration kit, and hit it with a baseball bat, I'm pretty sure the broom stick will snap, just like your arms and legs. I love the Rukka stuff you, tried that stuff on and feels very substantial. However, it is only rated AA. More As - more protection. You should know this since you spunked thousands on this stuff. You didn't pay all that money just to give you a nice bum did you? 😮 Cheaper gear will have the (or could have), the same armour. So then same armour, same A rating on abrasion. So what exactly are you getting for your 10 x the price on Rukka?
