If you have issues trying to connect the GTi mount to the ASiAir, try to power up the ASiAir unit before you modify the station in the SynScan app, so the ASiAir unit already establishes the Wi-Fi connection before you apply the modified station settings.

Hey, In today's video I'm going to show you how to connect the ZWO ASI AIR to the SkyWatcher alt-az/eq GTi, I will also go over the polar alignment and how to do the plate solve. The ZWO ASIair is great for some deep-sky astrophotography in the backyard or to make your system portable. This WiFi camera control device allows you to auto guide, and run an imaging sequence using your tablet or smartphone.

Enjoyed watching your tutorial👌 the ASIair Pro is not good for my current telescope setup as i have the Celestron Nexstar Evolution 9.25" series which is full of new innovation. To go through it all would be a long hefty essay. Firstly my OTA is alt/az mounted on a HD Pro Wedge, the mount has a 10 hour lithium ion battery built in so no need for a power tank, once aligned i can then align to 10 more calibration stars, the more stars you align to the more accurate the tracking which eliminates the need for a auto guider, the OTA generates it's own wifi which enables you to connect via a Android or iPhone device using the SkyPortal App to control the telescope, the OTA aligns itself using the Starsense Autoalign, no more bending down aligning 2 or 3 stars 🙌. I do like that the ASIair Pro does live stacking which is pretty cool....thanks for sharing your knowledge my friend and greetings from Nottingham ☺ just one more thing is alt/az mounts/mounted on a wedge don't get meridian flips which is super nice when imaging close to the meridian line 👌this particular telescope polar aligns to any star or planet 🔭

Hey, do you mind me asking how far can you push your mount (exposures)? I've seen a few people using it and the results are quite stunning with this setup.

@@TadejSkofic so far in alt/az I can get 2 min 48 sec single exposure time, mounted on the Wedge 4 min 21 sec single exposure. I have not had the chance to push the telescope to it's limits due to cloudy skies where i live 👍

Hey Tadej, I want to thank you for the super informative video! I just bought an AZ-GTi and your video helped me out a lot! Have you ever thought of using an FDTI cable (LYNX Astro or other) to direct-connect the AZ-GTi to the ASIAIR, or have you found that wireless connection works flawlessly enough for you? I was always under the impression that wired worked much better. Anyway thanks a bunch for the video and I hope to see more of your stuff soon. Clear skies!

Tadej Skofic the eqm-35 is a great mount and works wonderfully with the asiair. I have no complaints. I just want secondary mount that I can fly on a plane with.

another question I have - I didn't see a declination bracket in your setup. By adding the latitude base, does the Altitude part of the mount handle the declination?

@@theinterstellarfeller I hope I didn't misunderstand your question but the GTi is basically the same as a standard german equatorial mount after you update the software, but I'll make a complete review of the mount since I have it for a year now and I'll talk about how it works as well.

I don't quite know the technical terms but it's that the ASiAir doesn't connect if there is no star alignment done before. I think it's necessary so the ASiAir roughly knows where the mount is pointed(oriented) but I'm not 100% sure since I didn't look much into it.

I know this video is older so hopefully this comment reaches you, I have almost this same setup and I know it’s not necessary now to do the star alignment to connect the mount to the ASIAir. My question is, do I still have to connect through the SynScan Pro app to tell the mount my location and time and all that, or will the ASIAir app give that information to the mount?

Hello Tadej, So I had a clear night! ( yeah!) so recap: took several times to get mount and ASIAIR talking but 🙏 ! I had a few issues after polar alignment! ( 22: minutes! 🤷‍♂️ ! Touchy thing!) got back to home ( Polaris) then the trouble started, picked ngc 7000( North America nebula) the device kept telling me it was below the horizon! 🤷‍♂️ so I thought going back Polaris! Was a good thing to repeat and reset ! Bigger problem! Told me it was below the horizon! ( I know!) lol 😂 ! Have you or any of you content people had this problem?? Do you have a fix ?? I did reset ! ( power off) and ended up having ASIAIR take pics ( on my tablet) and controlled the mount from my iPhone!! (Az-Gti) works pretty good when set up right! (No guide camera) also I had lots of problems with the histogram! Pics went to tablet. Every pics was green Couldn’t get control of it no matter how I stretch it! 🤷‍♂️ guess this is enough for now! Cannon battery’s don’t last long in the cold 🥶 so I’m getting 120v step down power for the camera! Lol 😂 thanks to anyone for feedback! Joe

Did you check if you got the attitude limit set? don't go under 15-20 degrees and over 85. Do you have your location set correctly? Great info and video...what is the reason you Star Align at the beginning? Surely after PA and not really needed if you are Plate Solving anyway?

Hey, that was ''important'' before they made the update, I hade issues connecting if I didn't do the star alignment first. But now I can skip the star alignment and everything connects just fine.

I'm not sure if for me it's the mount or whatnot but using it in EQMod the mount and asiair seem to be somewhat out of sync fairly often. The app isn't pulling the positioning data from the mount for some reason. It works decently well for me when I use the SynScan mode with the IP set to my phone the same way Stelarium/Sky Safari would connect to it . (SynScan setting , Ethernet , Phone IP(10.0.0.98 in my case) , and port should be 11882 TCP) This way it requires me to keep the SynScanPro app open alongside asiair but it works way better than directly connecting the asiair to the mount for some reason . I'll have to investigate the mount again though .

For the position, the issue might be that you have to wait for a few seconds to a minute so the GPS finds your position, and I'm a bit confused since I was sure that the IP, etc. is the same with all, 10.0.0.10 the port 11880 and set to UDP The thing is that I don't like to use Sky Safari because I'm getting a filing that there are just too many programs overlapping each other and I see many different solutions but they usually work only in that specific case, I wanted to try out with SkySafari but I'm having foggy weather almost every night plus I got an off-axis guider so I'm dealing with this also, so I hope I get a good night soon so I can look into this a bit more, and sorry that I don't have a solution for now but I'll try to work it out.

@@TadejSkofic Ah , it's not my location that the app is not reading , it's the RA/DEC from the mount itself as it basically ignores all of the alignment done from synscan before trying to polar align.

Hey well, this is quite an extensive answer, and I'll talk about all of that in the very near future, but the main settings you want to hear is probable guiding so I got all set to 1000, Dec aggressiveness to 0.9 and RA to 0.8. Setting the exposures depend on a lot of different factors, but again I will go all over them in the near future.

Hi Tadej, congratulation for this video. I would like to know if this guide system, with asi air pro, works. Does the wifi have any lag? Can you take pictures of deep sky? Do you recommend it as an azgti guide system?

Hey Giuseppe, so let me be honest and first tell you that I don't know if and how it works with the PRO version, because I didn't use it, but I'm quite sure that the ASiAir PRO works perfectly well with the GTi. The wi-fi doesn't have lag but it does take a few seconds for an image to get downloaded and send to your phone (if you are imaging with a DSLR(5-8sec) and it's a bit faster if you are using one of the ZWO Astro cameras. About the az-mode, I wouldn't really recommend you to use it since the guiding is based on the Eq-Mode (as far as I know but I'm not 100% sure) plus you won't be able to get good guiding in Az-Mode so your exposures will be quite short compared to Eq Mode. well Tajed my friend,im still having problems.what i forgot was to turn station mode on in the asiair app,i thought that might resolve my issue,i can see in the asiair app im connected to synscan but as soon as i go to the telescopes tab ethernet 10.0.0.10 and udp 11880 it still wont connect,i tried starting up the asiair first then modifying station in synscan and i tried powering it up after modyfying the station in the synscap app,still no luck,,im thinking of making a quick video and sending you my view of it all,really frustrating mate :(

Great video, I have a question, I just received my mount I haven't tried it yet for the time. As I can align to the polar, I have a laser and also a piece that is from the LX2 track, this piece is mounted in that moment to place a laser or the polar finder, with that I have planned to align, you as you before you had the video device, and how long did it let you take shots without the comma appearing?

@@segoviasibiricus Ouu sorry, ok so I think that the best way is to use the SharpCap Pro if you are going to be using a LapTop, next the ASiAir has a built-in polar alignment routine but if you are just going to be using the SynScan app with your phone, there is not much you can do other than the star 3-star alignment starting from Polaris. Or get the QHY PoleMaster but that's quite expensive. May I ask you witch mount are you using?

Do we need to open syncscan app for connection of the mount, and do star alignment before connecting asiair? Or actually we need not to do this by direct connection to asiair?

Yes, first you connect to SynScan and do the star alignment, then go to WiFi settings in SynScan and modify the station as I did, then power up the AsiAir and connect to it.

Dear Tadej, thanks for your valuable video and wish you a happy new year! I managed to successfully connect my AZ GTI in alt-az (not equatorial) mode to Asiair and needed to connect this system to sky safari 6 pro. The Asiair manual says to select in skysafari settings, Skywatcher Synscan,mount type: alt-az goto, IP address 10.0.0.1 and port to be 4030. But skysafari always return the error message that the connection to the telescope failed. Do you happen to know the reason? I will be most grateful for a solution.

@@TadejSkofic thanks Tadej, i notice all of them and you are using the AZ GTi in equatorial mode (with the wedge and firmware update).but i am using it in ALT AZ, its original mode. Can it be the reason why ASIAIR +AZ GTi doesn't get connected to skysafari? parameters i used in skysafari are: scope type- skywatcher synscan; ip 10.0.0.1(as instructed in ASIAIR manual); port- 4030. keeping all above as it is and using ip 10.0.0.100 gives the same error message. what am i doing wrong?

@@subashisamarasinghe1439 Sorry for the late response, but I'm pretty sure that could be the issue, plus I would really recommend you to use it in EQ mode since in this way the mount tracks the sky a lot better. Let me know if it works after you try it in Eq mode

Hey, did you try to power up ASiAir before you applied the setting is the SynScan app? I usually connect to Syn Scan app first and then I plug in the power to ASiAir so when I hit the apply settings the WiFi connection is already running in the background so when I come into the AsiAir app it usually connects automatically, try that please and let me know

You connect it trough Wi-Fi, but your guiding and imaging camera are connected to the ASiAiR unit through a USB cable. If I misunderstood your question let me know.

That is a sweet video, thanks. Awaiting arrival of my AZ GTI and AsiAir, so it will be very helpful. I have a question though: when doing polar alignment I have clear view of Polaris from my backyard, but I have an obstruction to the left (west), so I am only capable of performing polar alignment by rotating the RA axis towards the right (east). I see the AsiAir PA routine turns the mount West by default, can this be changed? Thanks.

@@TadejSkofic Thanks! Really looking forward to your answer. Also, since were talking, have you tried using an EQMod cable to connect the mount to the AsiAir directly? Supposedly by doing so you should be able to eliminate the need to use the SynScan app and also alignment would be unnecessary, you would acquire targets directly by plate solving and the only app needed would be Asiair. I intend to try this myself, but my rig won't be complete in 5-6 weeks at least...

Hey Larry, you don't need a cable, it's all connected tough Wi-Fi, that is why you need to go to wi-fi setting and 'modify station' If you need any other help let me know. 😉

@@TadejSkofic that me be where my disconnect is, your video shows ethernet and a 10.X.X.X ip address and mine when I select eq mount only shows serial with port. When i turn it on it says failed connection please connect serial usb cable. So i thought there was a connection between the alt-az hand controller plug and the asiair. let me hook up an ethernet cable to see if that helps.

@@larrycarson3339 Have you tried to power up the ASiAir before you do the 'modify station',, so the WiFi connection is already running before you hit the Apply settings?

While your attempt to be comprehensive was appreciated, it would've been better to have done this at a slower pace, and in a better lit environment. It is apparent that when you went to the ASIAIR settings, that you already have them in place. While you where right to emphasise the IP settings and the port settings, you missed a very important setting that made all of this useless. You did miss the very important setting of changing the TCP to UCP. I don't care what you put in the IP and port settings, but without this change it's all useless. This is why you had to do the follow-up video from people that couldn't get their mounts to communicate with the ASIAIR. Unfortunately, your follow-up video did little to remedy that problem.
