We take you on a Cambodian street food tour in the capital of Phnom Penh and share with you some unmissable local eats. From melt in your mouth beef curry to nom krok- the most addictive Khmer snack ever. We hope you enjoy this Cambodian street food tour in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Cambodian beef curry at 126 The Noodle House, Phnom Penh. Open daily 5:00am to 5:00pm. Eat here for breakfast or lunch as they sell out of things quickly.
2. Sticky rice and banana at stall outside the covered shopfronts, Khan 7 Makara, Orussey Market, Phnom Penh. Open morning and afternoon.
3. Num banh chok trei (num banh chok fish) at Sophath, # 78 Street 07 Sangkat Chaktomok, 12207. Open 7:00am to 8:00pm.
4. Nom krok at BBK1 market, Phnom Penh. Morning and afternoon.

You are right, Cambodian cuisine is a forgotten or ignored food. Reason was Cambodia. Ding a closed communist country especially Pol Pot regime was so cruel that people were other countries stayed away just like North Korea. But now Cambodia is opening up and this is good chance for persons like you to introduce their culture, food, places and people to the world.

Somewhat "ignored" in my circle indeed. 😐 When we are craving Asian food, group or date night, Cambodian is never top of mind. Japanese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Indian, Cantonese, Hunan, Sichuan...all cuisines that seem to pop up most frequently. I'm making it a point to go to a Cambodian resto during this series. That's likely because before the Khmer Empire arose. Most of Cambodia was always trading with the Javanese kingdom all the time. This shared architecture knowledge and influences from both countries. A common dish you find traditional to both Cambodia and Indonesia is roasted fish wrapped in a banana leaf. Sorry for the unnecessary history lesson.

It’s certainly not a cuisine we were exposed to much in NZ! This is our second visit to Cambodia so it’s great to really get into the food scene a bit more. Hope you enjoy exploring it with us! I love how you enjoy the food of various countries. Each has its own flavour and history. To sum it up, the first food was "ខគោ". The second cake was "អន្សមអាំង". The third one was "នំបញ្ចុកសម្លរការី សម្លរខ្មែរ" and the fourth one was "នំគ្រក់". My mouth is watering now by watching your video.
