I was at this show. I've been an Asia fan since 1983 and was so excited to see the band. I didn't really have much knowledge about the three acts before Asia, but they were all awesome! I really liked Focus, but Martin Turner of Wishbone Ash was the most impressive. Asia played 13 songs, most were from the debut album. The show started at 7:00 and ended close to 10:30. There was also an exhibit of Roger Dean artwork for sale at the show! Wow! Everyone around me was nice and respectful, the venue was good, and parking was super easy. Two thumbs way up!!
my son jeff and i traveled from south of houston in the pouring rain 8 hours for this show to see focus and asia, needless to say they did not disappoint. the venue is top notch and the scene after in mobile was great. very nice folks everywhere, food great too. really enjoyed especially it being with my son.
According to Wikipedia, but unconfirmed, the Summer 2024 tour "sees a new line-up of Geoff Downes (keys), Virgil Donati (drums), John Mitchell (guitar) and Harry Whitley (bass, vocals)."
They sound great. I'd pay to watch them. The future of rock is cover bands, just being realistic. The creative rockers aren't alive anymore and it's too expensive to risk it all and be a band full time. I've come to accept this
I agree with you that there are not as many great artists today as there were in the 1980s. Just take a look at USA for Africa and see all of the legendary artists on that song. That being said, there are still some musicians today that I would pay to see. Ed Sheeran, Adele, and Green Day come to mind. In fact, I just saw Green Day last week in Philadelphia. There were 40,000 strong in attendance, so I can attest that rock is not dead.
Except the recording everything was very good. Super band, super bass player and especially singer (John Wetton substitute???, please tell me who he is and who the drummer is.) 💪🏻👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Look at all these fans crying! Did any of them buy tickets to the show? No! Nobody cares what they think or what makes them cry. Trying to live other peoples lives.
Seeing this a lot. Key band members pass or move on. Impressed new players trying to make it keeping it alive. Those who remain are left to try to rebuild it alone
HAH! I Love these people who feel they have to make statements, on how they won't support this tribute to Asia, that has Geoff Downes and has the full support of the Late John Wetton's estate ,namely his wife! But go on make your statements 🤔🙄😖🤣😆
Asia is not Asia without the original lineup. John Wetton is passed on, all the original lineup is vanished. Calling themselves Asia now is blatant grifting off the original band. It's an insult.😡
I couldn’t agree more, I love and miss John Wetton’s vocals. My Wife’s high school friend was and still is Billy Sherwood plus our neighbor is Jon Anderson. We are huge PROG fans often attending YES/ Jon Anderson shows here in California. I will add that Geoff Downes is a character Very entertaining to talk with.but no Steve Howe, Carl Palmer,John Wetton and no Geoff Dwones. I don’t know how they can get away with calling them selves ASIA. But I will say that they sounded pretty good, but there’s some really good Led Zeppelin cover bands out there too. Have a great evening everyone and let’s just enjoy music.
I disagree. First off I would have never guessed that these guys performing were not the original Asia lineup. The guitar is spot on, the drums are outstanding, actually beyond outstanding, very good drummer, the keyboards mix in well and most importantly the vocals sound just like Asia. If that is not the original singer, he definitely is a carbon copy of the lead singer from Asia. If I was blindfolded and placed in this theater not knowing who was performing, I would without a doubt tell you this is Asia!
@@richardlodge996 I can agree that they sound very similar but there’s not a single original member in the current lineup, so that would be a tribute band as for the original lead singer the great John Wetton passed away in 2017. Steve Howe and Geoff Downes are both in YES along with my wife’s long time friend Billy Sherwood. Again I agree they sound great but maybe call it ASIA 2.0. Have a great day and no disrespect meant, as a lifelong musician I simply love music no matter who’s playing. 😎
@@johnrpizzaguy ok I misinterpreted your post. I never did know who any of the original members of the band were. I was a fan of Asia but not in the way I actually researched the band members.
