@WheresWes It was great to hear your comments! For the next song, I suggest this one: (EDIT, this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x2SHNSKmf-Y.html) It's ‘Jest taki samotny dom’ (‘There is a lonely manor house’) by the legendary Polish rock band Budka Suflera (English speakers would pronounce it as boot-kah soof-leh-rah)'. This live recording, from a Polish festival named after Woodstock, is relatively new, but the band composed this song in early 1970’s, when the music scene was much more diverse and music charts included progressive rock bands like Velvet Underground, Frank Zappa and his band, ELP, King Crimson, Uriah Heep or Yes. Here is my(C) English translation: 'There's a lonely manor house' The rain came down, the night flamed up, a manor by the road In shrines of trees, huge helms of peaks, I hear Wagnerian tones, Behind a haunting old stained glass, [the] chill of empty rooms Time’s crushed into grey dust, the empty manor is dead I’ll add more wood, as [the] fire died, the tempest carries on Now a spree of hues, and candles lit, and sounds of a violin The Gothic door is bending down, moving aside with a crunch And a fair white lady’s flying in, wrapped in diamond fog The manor’s swirled us all around, the flame of her crimson hair Over mounts I'm flying, flying high with her, a rose is in her hand After night comes a bright new day, calmness after tempest, Birds then get to wake me up, banging at the windows After night comes a bright new day, calmness after tempest, Birds then get to wake me up, banging at the windows Grey'n' empty is again the old house I sheltered in And my dearest, dearest of them all, is on the old stained glass. I must set off, set off now, plunging into this life, Though I still hold in my hand the slightly faded rose After night comes a bright new day, calmness after tempest, Birds then get to wake me up, banging at the windows (2x)

Listening to it without translating the words is like watching a movie without sound. At 5:46 Marek Grechuta changed the lyrics of the song. Instead of "there is so much time", he sang for the first time: "you have little time". And he smiled. This is one of his last performances...

There were so many days to lose strength, There were so many moments before I lost my breath, When you regret those of whom you have nothing, One thing is worth knowing, just one thing: That only those days that we don't know yet are important, These few moments are important, the ones we are waiting for...x2 There was a famous person who had a house and an orchard, He suddenly lost his sense and fell into bad circles, Even though the fortune was gone, it didn't roll away, He was then able to explain to himself that: Only those days that we don't know yet are important, These few moments are important, the ones we are waiting for...x2 How to recognize people we no longer know? How to collect thoughts from those that are not put together? How to suddenly separate your heart from your mind? How to hear yourself amidst the singing of the crowd? How to recognize people we no longer know? How to collect thoughts from those that are not put together? How to suddenly find joy and hope? Search for answers, there is so much time... In Polish music the lyrics are often as important if not for the whole experience. Especially the older music because it reflects the times when it came to be and how it affected the listeners. For example in times when Poles where actually poor and worked hard for very little this song is saying - the most important days are yet to come, those moments that will come (that's the chorus) and in the lyrics he talks about people and how they change with time and circumstances - it's almost a poem. And another Polish artist Czesław Niemen would sing the actual poems and also lyrics that reflected Polish reality with the vibe of fun "western" music. And again Marek Grechuta is often called a lyrical (melancholic) artist.

Marek Grechuta was most popular in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a representative of a very popular musical trend called poetic song. The lyrics of the songs were often well-known poems by Polish poets - both classical and young, to which the young musicians composed music. The great star of this musical trend was Ewa Demarczyk, and her biggest hit was the song "Grande Valse Brillante", which I suggest you listen to.
@janpopiel6845

Lack of dynamic in vocal is simply to compliment very meditative lyrics. Marek Grechuta is amazing singer, however he was a little held back by his music genre, which is called "poezja śpiewana" (lit. sung poetry, I don't think there is something of a kind in USA), that is amazing genre in itself, but emphisizes lyrics over vocal dynamic. If you want a little more dynamic piece of Marek Grechuta, you may try listening to "Korowód" (a little bit of rock), or "Nie dokazuj" (kinda frivolous take on sung poetry genre)

You have to put this song into context. First of all it's a style more or less called "sung poem". It used to be very popular, when the access to the western music was limited and people were seeking some form of music they can relate to. Since polish education puts a lot of emphasis on polish poetry and literature, it was quite natural that this kind of music got popular. Unfortunately, let's call it high level art and music is not widely popular anymore. It's still thete but as a neesh style for small, usually highly educated and a bit poshy audience. The roots of mainstream Polish culture and music is in the local folk and rural areas. That is why the popularity of simple catchy melodies, cheesy lyrics like disco polo is massive. Unless you are a disco polo hater get any even the poshest Polish person drunk and they will party to this music all night long.

Instruments apart, 80% of the power of this song is the lyrics. The violin and piano parts, no matter how beautiful, are mere mood setters for the melancholic joy and hope that the words convey. It would be great to see another reaction but this time with the better understanding of the piece. You won't regret it 😉! It's a true game changer in perceiving the complexity and hardships of life.

I highly recommend cheking out "Lady Pank - Kryzysowa Narzeczona", "AKURAT - Lubię Mówić Z Tobą" "Myslovitz - Długość dźwięku samotności" even rap songs like "GrubSon - Na szczycie" have this "freedom" feeling in it, its kinda hard to explain, especially to those that wont understand meaning in lirycs even after translating, but ye, polish music is god tier, most of it never will be international hit, but every Pole across the world will understand the meaning of those. "Cała sala śpiewa z nami", sung by Jerzy Połomski. It's great. I'd recommend some of Młynarski's songs (performed by Gołas) from the Dudek Cabaret, but although they're available on YT, they have no english subtitles, and since they're comedic in nature, context is necessary. It's a shame, cause a lot of good Central European media, especially before the late 90s, has rarely been officially subbed, and never been given the chance to be viewed by foreign audiences, and there are a lot of gems in music, as well as film, that I'm sure would blow people away. If you're nonetheless curious about the Kabaret Dudek songs, "Upiorny Twist", "W Polskę idziemy", and "Tupot Białych Mew" are some of my favorites. The tunes are great, and the lyrics really shine bright. Especially when sung by Wiesław Gołas.

Seek for the answers, there's so much time* Important are only the days which we do not know yet Important are those few moments we're still waiting for Important are only the days which we do not know yet Important are those few moments we're still waiting for *At the end of his life, Grechuta started to sing "there's so little time" instead. Hi Wes, I will leave this extract from my story. After many years of travelling, I've learned to bring with me few things abroad - snacks and sweets (ptasie mleczko, prince polo, etc.), drinks (Żubrówka, etc.), gifts and music. And when I was in Greenland, I met a pianist from Spain. He actually studied music in Kraków, but that I learned later. I hiked thru some remote areas with a tent and when he asked me, what I was listening, it was this songs. But the song that impressed him most, was one that I think is - I don't often use that word - future classic. In that I think it will be one of those songs that will never get old. And that is song made by Michał Lorenc - "Taniec Eleny". Back to the song that you listened. It is my favourite version. Not only because pointed difference to the studio record, about how much time is left. My favourite difference that makes me to come back to YT in search of this version few times a year is when that piano part comes and he sings (with help of google translate, adding some corrections that make me feel it's more adequate): "How will you suddenly separate your mind from your heart. How will you hear yourself in such a noisy scherzo." And that musical reference at the end is also more poetic in my view. Anyway, I am not a person that likes watching reactions or stuff like that, because I feel like it fuels hubris or pride, which I truly find as root of all sins, but I wanted to recommend you even in your time off cameras to listen to and - maybe? - enjoy that mentioned "Taniec Eleny" by Michał Lorenc. Cordially, Norman

The thing about older polish music is that words have a lot of meaning, especially before 1989. Anti-establishment sentiment, trying to sneak message to people etc, even in this song it is reminding people that we had bad times with communism but it's time to leave it behind. For more piano oriented music you could try Mela Koteluk - Żurawie Origami or anything else, if you want some fun metal stuff - Nocny Kochanek is way to go (they also have more serious music under name Night Mistress, but I don't like it that much). Jacek Kaczmarski was known as a polish bard, for more modern music Dawid Podsiadło is someone you probably heard, as he did ending for Cyberpunk anime. Wow, I wrote quite a lot xD Sorry about that, I just like talking about music. Have a nice one! :P

React also to the song of Czesław Niemen titled "Strange is this world" (Dziwny jest ten świat). Niemen and this song of him was legendary. But You should listen to the Polish songs together with their lyrics being translated, so with the subtitles. The lyrics in many Polish songs are important to be able to really get the song, to feel it really, and also they are often beautiful.

The text of the song is deep, intelectual, intresting and sounds like poetry. Focusing just on the musics is not enough, in apposite music is a decoration to singing words.

Oh, this is fresh! Following the algorithm and seeing the numbers, I thought that such a niche vid is just not doing too well comparing to other stuff on the channel. I'd second checking Czesław Niemen for a similar era ("Cztery ściany świata" is my fav tune, but it's not famous). But for something completely different, maybe Polish hip-hop? Kaliber 44 - Plus i Minus might be the most "classic" piece. Could be "funny" without understanding the lyrics (apart from the swearwords, probably).

The main sense of the song is the phrase: Those days we are not aware of, are the most important. The future is important not the past.

Refrain is: "Ważne są.rylko te dni ktorych jeszcze nie znamy Waznych jest kilka tych chwil, tych na ktore czekamy" In a very crude translation of a beautiful, high poetry that this song is: "The only Important days are the ones we don't yet know Important are only few moments, the ones we are waiting for"

It was so many days till losing breath Till loosing breath it was so many days When you regret those, which you got nothing from one thing is worth knowing, just know one thing that Important are only those days which we don’t know yet Important are those few moments, that we are waiting for Important are only those days which we don’t know yet Important are those few moments, that we are waiting for A famous someone, that had a house and garden He suddenly lost his sense and fell into bad circles Even though the fortune was gone, he didn't go dawn He could than explain himself that Important are only those days which we don’t know yet Important are those few moments, that we are awaiting for Important are only those days which we don’t know yet Important are those few moments, that we are awaiting for How to recognize people we no longer know How to collect thoughts from those that are not put together How to suddenly separate your mind from your heart How to hear yourself amidst the singing of the crowd How to recognize people we no longer know How to collect thoughts from those that are not put together How to suddenly find joy and hope Seek for the answers , there is not much time left Important are only those days which we don’t know yet Important are those few moments, that we are awaiting for Important are only those days which we don’t know yet Important are those few moments, that we are awaiting for

Hey! Few folks mentioned it, but Mare Grechuta isn't exacly a singer, he performs sung poetry, that's why he may sound dull as a vocalist, but he's more reciting than singing. Also, lyrics while simple are important due to it's being poetry of sort, that's why I encourage You to check the translation. Please chec "Nie dokazuj" by Marek Grechuta, I think You will love it!

I'm really glad to see someone appreciate polish music, that is not Polish Unlike how it is for most of the time in usa, music puts art over the entertainment in it's priorities. Since you liked the violin composing alongside Marek's voice, I'm sure you would love breakout's 1971 blues album. Its guitar and harmonica tends to 'speak' alongside the singer on a couple songs :)
