Hey, guys! Huge fan from KL here. A quick comment re. people fighting supernatural beings: My late paternal grandmother who was super attuned to her nyonya heritage told us a story about how she fought an army of dolls. Her family as well as my late granddad's family like most Peranakan and nusantara families were big on incorporating and enlisting these otherworldly entities in their lives including the tiger "sakas", a bloodthirsty keris that had to be buried, an albino crocodile ancestor, et al. 🤣

Greetings from Detroit! Great episode. Brought back a lot of memories of tales shared over teh tarik and Nescafé at stalls in Bangsar, KL during the 90s. Kum Kum for sure as it feels like a violation of a sanctuary. Karak and the others, you can go home and almost be relieved that you got away from it. But having an entity, demon, creature right at your doorstep, that takes unnerving to a whole new level.

Glad to see another episode up and was listening to this while at work in the office. :D While the White Lady of Balete Drive is the popular one. We had a very recent Urban Legend that made it to the national news - the wandering flesh eater Maria Labo. It became so notorious because print materials were circulating about her and she has been "sighted" in various places in Visayas and Mindanao. It would be cool if you guys could share your thoughts about her in your future episodes.^^

Hi Kyle and Wayne! growing up in the 90s, In Brunei, we also heard of the Kum Kum Lady, we were told that she does not only knock on the door but says...kum kum. Yes.. this urban legend was also widely spread in Brunei back then. There is also a story about a woman like Kakak also but she would be seen walking down a random road at night but esp during hujan panas carrying a wrapped white cloth in her arms, some people say its her baby, some would say its a tombstone. either way its scary also lah for us kids to be told about this story at that time.

Hi Bruns! Wow, I think hearing the word Kum Kum is a lot more scarier than the knock on the door itself! I heard of the Kakak one too, especially the tombstone.

Hi there, shoutouts from the Philippines. White lady is really a big urban legend for us here in the Philippines and we still believe in it and speaking of my experience, I had seen more of them before in my house or in my school.

@@WEAREHANTU Oh, I would like to share this incident way back 2022 when I was doing my on the job training in my University. That time, all the classes in my uni were online and only the students doing internship had to go to school. The school was like a ghosttown. So quiet. One time, I and my two other classmates were inside the laboratory requisition office. There were 3 exit doors and usually the far end door was locked because the head of the laboratory left his belongings in there and it was restricted to us. So that morning, it was only the 3 of us cleaning the equipment just the normal task.. Suddenly, that door on the far end suddenly opened widely! We got surprised! There was no air! Only a strong wind could open that door that wide! We were startled of course. We told ourselves "ignore it. lets just do our task" When our professor came in, we told him about the incident and he smiled at us. He told us that there was indeed a spirit roaming around the area. It was a kid. At first , they were a bit afraid of that ghost or entity but later on they learned to just ignore it especially they left the laboratory around 8pm everyday. For them it was normal. After that, me and my classmates never worked alone. Whenever we had to check the wirings or lights in the computer labs or workshop, we always went together because we could feel eyes watching us. The building where our laboratory office was located was actually old and another interesting facts, the restrooms on the second floor didn't have mirrors. Well, I had more experiences to say but well, I just leave it out here. :)

I think why kum kum is so scary have been say by allisbrightonthedarkside. It the typical something is outside your home. Something that claims to be human that is exactly not. Imagine it is middle of the night. You just finished getting ready to sleep. Tried from a long day of working or whatever you are doing. You settle yourself in the warm and comfortable bed, swiping away on your phone before luring away into a deep and peaceful sleep. Then a knock on your door. Weird...but it could be something urgent. You grumply get out from your bed and trudge toward the door. Just as your fingertips touches the surface of the doorknob. A soft and creaking voice whisper from the outside, reminding you a little bit of your beloved grandmother. "Kum Kum..." Your face drop, your hand freezes in place as chill runs through your spine when those words enter into your ears. Whoever or whatever that is outside your door. Those sweet words that will utter later to lure your hands to turn the doorknob and open the door, are just a honey trap to the files. Words uttered by a being that once were a human or was never one to begin with.
