Reason why 99 bends were known to be haunted was probably because it was build before world war II and it was used as an illegal racing track which probably had some accidents and death in that area. I heard stories that bikers would spot old lady walking along the road side especially right after sharp bend which caused bikers to skid. One true experience by my friends back in the 90s, they were riding there at night and when they turned into one of the bend which happened that the street lamp was not lit up, the engine of one of the bikes would go dead. No matte how many times they tried to jump start etc it would not start. No choice, they had to push the bike, once they went back to the brighter side of the road before that dark part, the bike would start. But because they have to pass through the dark side of the road to go to the other side, they tried going into the dark part and the bike engine died again. After that, they just changed their route and avoided passing through that road.
I had a friend showing off his new civil type R in the 2000s. Brought me on a ride on the hairpin turns. Very fortunately nothing happened to us that night but many blind and dark spots

A very convenient excuse to keep kids and teenagers at home if you ask me. But for me and my classmates who were in Nursing school going on night shift or clocking out from the 3-11 shift, it was ridiculous that we'd go together in groups when walking on the dark streets because what are the odds that Maria would pop up and pluck one or two of us?!? hahaha Anyway, a great episode again to accompany me while working!^^
I think there's also quite a famous story about the underpass along rifle range road. I recalled whenever if I'm in a car driving past that area, I was expecting I'll spot that old lady that everybody said they'll see her whenever the drove pass there after midnight. I'm glad I didn't get to spot that old lady.
Another story I heard back in the 90s or early 2000. I vaguely recalled this is about Mount Pleasant road, my friend was driving past the road at night. At one point, he felt that the air outside seemed to be getting colder even though he's in the car. And he saw from his rear view mirror a big black shadow or something like a cloth flew past his back window but at that moment when the cloth fly past his car, he felt his whole car got lifted off the ground and it dropped back down and his rear window shattered into pieces. He was stunned in shock but decided to just carry on and ignored what happened.
Most probably. Cos few days after, he went to a taoist temple and the medium (di ya pek) told him about this encounter and he's lucky he's still alive. And did something for him to bless and remove any negative attachments for him.
Was a guard com back in my NS days at the airbase along old tampanies rd. People around me encountered a few incidents during my service there 😆😆😆. Even a k9 unit doggo didnt even dare to do his patrol over there 😂
Here's a bit of non hantu trivia of Bukit Brown. A fair number of years back, we had a causal meeting with one of the BB caretakers/historians. One day, a bunch of people came trudging around and searching for something. The person asked if they could help, the bunch brushed them off. A few hours later, the bunch of folks were visibly tired and frustrated... And when the person asked again, they relented and said they were looking for a grave famous-Lee linked to a prominent family in sg. So they were pointed to it. When the highway was built, it just so happened to bypass that plot...
whoa didnt think you guys would actually take my suggestion to discuss lornie highway. (indeed, it is i, notraqiz) a little fun fact about bukit brown: it was part of the route the japanese fought through leading up to the fall of singapore in 1941-42. people have found war relics (buttons, bullet casings, etc.) in the adam/lornie area, and the part of the highway that sits atop the middle of the cemetery is where some theorize was the location of mass graves that many fallen soldiers were buried in - i believe there was a survey conducted there prior to construction of the highway but it could not be located. some of the graves even have bullet holes as evidence of there having been combatants on the ground, and there are anecdotes of people whose ancestors were hurriedly laid to rest during this period as japanese bomber planes unleashed hell on the ground. this could be why some may feel an oppressive aura to the area, as well as the presence of vengeful spirits. i've been there many times though, to admire the natural sights and sounds (a few times at night) and have only felt peace and tranquility in the overgrowth.
