GARY!!! This mans passion is legendary and I love his energy! Keep it up Gary, don’t let those ones who criticize your delivery! I thank you so much for Gettysburg 158! I am off recovering from 2-shoulder surgeries. And the Anniversary posts were the best! Between Tim, History Underground and Atun-Shei and ABT, Adams County and of course this podcast I was kept busy!
Can vouch that Gary was just as good at feeding people at his Gettysburg Food for Thought restaurant as he is a "storyteller" now. He made a mean tuna fish sandwich and was just as energetic! Loved this podcast!
Wow! Wonder how many more Gettysburg guides are war gamers! These Gettysburg channels are quickly becoming my favorites! Great show and one I will likely become a patron of!
So glad I found this channel. And I love Gary's enthusiasm for the subject. Nothing is more exciting than a presenter or guide who so obviously loves their subject content.
hard to believe Gary 'never heard' of 16th Mi companies with Morrill's Co B on the left. Obviously 16th MI was the regiment on the left first before the 20th Maine. Vinvent moved them right, and their 2 companies were out as skirmishers, the STAYED on the left. (per book struggle for the round tops by Penny and Laine) citation is OR v27 623 Morrill to Chamberlain July and what I think is BP v2 1029 1030. "because the 2 co's of the 16th MI were already there I went in to line on the left of the skirmishers" Some of the RU-vid animations include them. I've had LBG tours that mention them.......
I am asking for your insight, I read a book, the eve of July 1 or 2nd, some high personality Union General ordered to position on the road, Chamberlain, emertsbuurg, important road, is it in the left side, so he, this top famous general arrives and sees high ground, he decided to take the high ground and not position near the road...Meade did not know till later, than Meade not happy but recognized he need support...who was this guy who took the high ground? Warren, Sickles? I thought an ex leader like McCleanon, I thought it was big round top, but no Union General ever took big round top, whi took the high ground, where and when, Meade Meade only discovered the next morning, it it his troops had extended further to left than ordered,
You have a lot jumbled up there, but the answer to your main question is that it was Sickles or was assigned a position on Cemetery Ridge but wanted a position that he thought looked better on the Emmitsburg Road ridge. He asked permission several times and always got a “no” but he went and did it anyway. Hope that helped.
@@BJNich78 From Garry's answer, I thought that he understood the question to be "which rock did William Oates claim to have reached during the attack?" And yes, John Oates was killed somewhere during the attack. Sorry for the confusion.
@@addressinggettysburg Hah. Not me. The person who asked the question on the air was the person who asked about John Oates. He was the brother of Colonel William Oates.
Plenty of people could do a better job than Gary. He’s so nerdy it’s turning kids off from history. And no, hosts should at least try to be unbiased when telling these stories.
@colinhuff8591 I can promise you, kids who aren't already into history aren't even coming across Garry. Go ahead and make your own "cool dude" history channel tho.
I could listen to Gary all day. He so passionate and engaging. Being plant based myself I doubt if I’ll make to Gettysburg 200. That would make me 109.
I know Frazz, I met Gregory Coco, who I thought was cold, I Mark Nesbitt we had a lot to talk about Northern Ohio, and I met Tim a few years back, at The Farnsworth House tavern, had a conversation with him. But I have never met you, Gary, and I have been going to Gettysburg for 25 years.
Every time I visit Gettysburg I figure I won’t need much time since I’ve seen a lot of it then I end up squeezing every last minute out of my trip out of town.
I'm not a fan of Gary's videos. He can't take constructive criticism. He has great knowledge. I have nothing against his energy but on video it's too annoying for me. So they don't have to ban me. I won't be watching. There are many other resources available.
Respectfully, why do we need to know that Gary is “LBG?” I am a big fan of Gary but I could care less about his sexual orientation. So, why did you feel compelled to bring that up? Do you reveal the sexual orientation of all guests? Wow.
Respectfully, I'm going to assume that you're joking because you're clearly smart enough to leave a critical comment. And since you're that smart, I'll remind you of the old saying "where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise." But in case you aren't joking and really don't know, "LBG" stands for "Licensed Battlefield Guide." Context still matters in this world.
I feel like a complete idiot. I understand now the true meaning of LBG in the context here and stand corrected. Please accept my utmost apology. I am obviously too sensitive to all of “wokeness” of today.
@@ram56testacleezer reminds me of that old Nietzsche quote “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.” lol I understand. If I may offer advice to help you avoid making that mistake again: stop watching the news; stop listening to politicians; walk in the woods twice a week. Apology accepted. I hope you don't mind me having fun at your expense. It's all in good humor.
@@addressinggettysburg damn, I was more impressed when I thought Garry was simultaneously Lesbian, Bisexual, and Gay. I thought if anyone could pull it off, it's Garry.
