Here is another episode of "Ask Augustin" in collaboration with Tonebase! This summer I filmed three in-depth videos for them on the Beethoven concerto, one talking about each movement. In this one, I talk about the first movement.
Be sure to check out everything else they have to offer at www.tonebase.co...
And stay tuned for the next installments!

I love the way he paints the big picture of the work and stresses that there must always be a sense of direction. He's one of my favorite soloists.

Augustin always has a very philosophical, analytical view of the works. One of the most preeminent violinists today.

THAT FINGERING FOR THE OCTAVES IS BRILLIANT. Actually, this whole video was brilliant hahaha.

Unfortunately my hands are too small to reach an octave with 2 and 4 finger

If there is, in fact, a renaissance of the golden era of great violinists of the early 20th century, Hadelich definitely is the prime exponent of it. There are very few violinists out there nowadays on his level. Many of them play well but leave no impression when all is said and done. It's like they don't understand music all that well and/or just don't have a lot interesting to say. You have to speak with your instrument, literally - a skill that not many have, but Hadelich has it. His humility is refreshing too. Some lesser players are just sorta "Hollywood."

Wow, the Beethoven concerto is quite complex indeed. It is nice to see Augustin taking so much time out of his day to create such a beautifully-thought-out video for his audience. Thank you so much

I'm not a professional musician, nor have I played the Classical Guitar for years, but I consider this Concerto as The One. As such, I find this elaboration and explanation as pure Stairways To Heaven. Thank you Augustin ❤️

The four note motive which starts on the timpani is like a menacing reminder of the goose stepping guards of Napoleon s troops or police guarding all public buildings in Europe. Beethoven s music makes his audience feel safe.

Thank you very much for sharing very practical and useful skills. I would like to know how you assign bowings when using original versions such as the Henle edition. I would be very happy if you would talk in the ask Augustin programs.

Dear Mr.Hadelich. I’d like to ask a little question , please. How long did it take you to learn this concerto and how many hours of a daily practice did it take? Thank you in advance !
