Goku's voice actor Sean Schemmel hosts a solo Dragonball Q & A panel at Fan Expo Dallas 2018. Even though the panel was an hour long only a few questions got answered. Find out why, lol. Follow Sean Schemmel on Twitter : se...
it's like a big work out. if you just do nothing the next day, it'll suck. it's better to keep working it and doing lighter work outs the next day to not shut you down. but don't start doing that too early or that would be even worse.
It's sad to hear Sean get so defensive for Goku Black because of the hate he got for Xenoverse and Fighterz. His Rose voice in the show is flawless to me.
Gordy Luft I think it’s perfect in the anime, too, but it is kind of crazy how badly he fucked up in Xenoverse and FighterZ. But I guess that’s how you learn.
Don't blame Sean about Xenoverse and Fighterz. It's all about voice direction and what not. Plus, the English dub of Super at the time was way behind, and Sean and the crew had no reference to go off on. They had to guess and shoot in the dark to what it could be, hence why Goku Black in Xenoverse and Fighterz sound the way they are, compare to how they sound now in the latest episode of Super's English dub. And people keep forgetting that English voices for any anime video game is not and never final.
- Why is the sky blue? - Oh, my boy, let me tell you a story about Ukranian potato crops. You know, before the big bang we didn't have trigonometry and that's why people cry when they chop onions. But the point is, cars have four wheels for added balance, but during Roman times, the emperor had two sisters and one of them had a pet wolf. Wolves hunt in packs BTW and unlike frogs, they cannot swim. However, during the Summer solstice, before the trees lose their leaves to the seasons - speaking of seasons, last season of the show we brought in a new animator. We had to take a new mortgage on the studio which we bought back in 1969 when man landed on the moon for the first time. That truly was a great achievement, which also resulted in the bankrupt of the Soviet Union. Now the Chinese... that's a different issue altogether. They have this great wall, and walls can be built from all sorts of different materials, but in ancient times they did not have the technology to to fabricate glass windows and people used pelt for warm... etc.
I mean if you’re a healthy person you won’t age all that fast. Unless genetically you’re coded to age fast forcefullly, there’s usually something you can do about it. I’ll never understand how some people don’t get this concept.
You know, people can take Sean's answer about Black's voice as him being rude, but he's not being. Like he says, he's been doing it for over 20 years, this his his profession, he knows what he's doing, again, he's been doing it longer than most Dragon Ball fans have been alive. What's more is, these fans have no platform to tell people like Sean or Chris how to do their jobs. These guys have been doing it for a long time and they know what they're doing. Leave him alone about Black's voice.
Robert Thompson but the guy who asked the question didnt criticize sean for the goku black voice. He legit just asked why he chose it. I understand there are many fans who dont understand the creative process, but Sean got very triggered over this one question
Do you honestly blame him? Nearly every single panel he does, this question is asked or one similar to it. He's more than likely tired of hearing the question and questioned about his decisions.
I get your perspective, but I think we can agree he's a hypocrite here. He said don't critics his work, but yet he says, and no joke work dof rword that with the special editions Lucas "ruined my childhood". Like what? That's so inconsiderate and hypocritical as hell. He gets stressed after a month or two of tweets? How does he think Lucas feels? And he adds tot hat fire. And he's being everything he complains about. He's being rude, over reacting, nonsensicle and hypocritical by saying George ruined his childhood after people say he did black wrong and got super triggered over it. Telling people to stop but doing much worse himself.
@@fridaynightnicktoons6885 no you missed his point completely, it was that despite hating what Lucas did with star wars he understood he couldn't control or more so he didn't have the right to control what the CREATOR done with his work. That's was his point.
If i have to be honest i like his goku black ssjr voice as a brittish person, it gives that sense of superiority, and divinity. It just fits the character well for me, and idc if anyone disagrees with me im just putting my opinion out there ☺
MaiDewd in xenoverse i hated EVERYTHING about it because normal goku black had such a cool fucking voice only to go ssjr and obtain an accent out of thin fucking air but after a while i started to love how fitting it was for someone rambling on about justice and all of that nonsense. it easily became one of my favorite voices and i love every bit of it now
I didnt even notice he had a british voice? TBH (and im sorry sean) His british kinda went in and out through out the saga.. it was mainly goku talking at a lower level.. and adding about 14% british into it.. 40% of the time. lol BUT.. after everything he said.. I can understand it.. Hey sean ! whatever voice you pick.. just stick with it ! Dont let people push u around and make u change it !
@@Krystalmyth No, he's right. As much as I disagree with sean on many things, especially with how he handled vic mignoga, he's right about the voice direction. It isn't even him half the time and more so where he's forced to take it by toei and other studios and scripts. Voice actors don't really have a say in any of the story scripts if any at all.
jackjackjackNcoke Yeah the salt is from the fans. It's not very becoming for a fan to tell Sean how to do his job when the fans themselves don't have any acting experiences and don't understand the professional aspect of it.
I see both sides of it, mostly because a lot of the problem people have with his Goku Black is that the English accent doesn't make any sense, but I do understand that they were in a tough spot with the Japanese not wanting to disclose the details of Black when they first started working on him. I'd wager the AMA he did a few months back added a lot of fuel to the fire, where he gave his reasoning behind the english accent and was subsequently informed that it doesn't make sense. Sean has a history of being overly defensive and his response to that was a good display of it. Yes, the fans shouldn't be trying to dictate the performers performance, but there is some validity in being critical about the choices that were made for Black.
jackjackjackNcoke I can understand the overly defensiveness on his part. There are too many fans that don't understand the procedures of the creativity. Of course Sean isn't a saint and he knows it, but a lot of fan inputs and criticism isn't informed at all. The accent didn't fased at all. Sometimes we as fans are too sucked in on always trying to get we want.
Again, I get both sides of it. I'm sure he gets hounded constantly and it has to be beyond annoying at times, but there is valid criticism within that. With the Goku Black thing in particular, there is some objective criticism to it. They were in a hard spot with that character, but clearly there was some misinterpreted information somewhere along the lines that helped inform the decision to give him an English accent. This isn't a matter of fans getting upset with how he delivers it a certain line, this is genuinely something that doesn't make sense. How that is communicated is a completely different thing though, and I support the "go fuck yourself" mentality to any fan who doesn't understand how to voice criticism properly.
jackjackjackNcoke Sean stated the accent was to reflect Zamasu's voice actor David Gray. I thought it was straightforward to get for the dub's side of things.
I also love the fact that, if he hears a very interesting voice, like in the video for example: 36:48-37:44, he’ll just admire the voice by impersonating it, and then complimenting on that persons natural voice. Which I think is really sweet. 😁
My voice is hurting so I cant speak to much, goes of on a random ass story for 10min at 8000 words per minute. Also got asked about Goku Black, ends with F Star Wars
if i’m not mistaken he didn’t say he can’t talk a lot, he just can’t scream too much or something along those lines. i’m too lazy to rewatch the beginning to give an exact quote.
I bet he feels really upset cause im sure he goes back and listens to his original voice and while not accurate to the Japanese scripts the acting he did was really good as goku since day 1 and I bet he just feels like he couldn't have don't it any better so like its annoying to hear non actors influence and try to mettle with something that isn't that serious...
Imagine if you were that fan, Sean rampaging on you. Damn i can feel that scenario and i honestly feel bad for that guy He just wanted a damn answer not a salty attack
He made it clear early on and at the end of the rant that he was speaking on people on twitter telling him how or what they think of the voice and it should change. He actually thanked him for asking about it so he could make his soapbox rant. I do similar shit I sound like I’m maybe getting angry or loud but it’s just the passion of topic. He wasn’t mad at the guy for asking about it.
@@zangyba3070 because he was blatantly projecting his frustrations from a previous situation on a guy who innocently asked if goku black being British was his idea….
The Animated Gamer I agree. Gotta remembered people came to see him to talk about DB series or any series he worked on along with getting to know who he is outside the booth since he's human as well. Most fans seem to forget that. lol
His mind wanders and he gets so easily distracted. He was on a panel with Chris not too long ago and apparently they had some coffee cups on the table. He was talking like, ''This is so cool! Look at the crowd, this is gr-oh my gosh, wait! *sees coffee cup* I collect coffee cups when I travel-if I could pay for this, I will- I collect coffee cups when I travel and this is a fantastic cup!'' He also got distracted by a comment Chris made about the Super Saiyan Blue hair, which went into a short story by Sean about a blue shampoo he used in the shower that day.
I'll admit I wasn't pleased the first time I heard Black's voice. Sean's doing his absolute best however and we really should give him a break. He's certainly improved with the voice though. I'm quite enjoying it now.
I dont understand peoples problem with it. I honestly loved every second of goku blacks voice. He did an outstanding job taking the zamasu voice, goku's, and adding an evil twist to goku's voice, making it what goku black is. I honestly felt that when watching it too, as I felt purely through Sean's voice acting, that it was Goku, but also not, and it made for a very perplexing and interesting story arc that kept me guessing all the way to the reveal. the goku black arc has so far been one of my favorites in all of dragon ball, and I couldn't be more stoked with Sean's work. Cant wait for season 5!
I was skeptical when I heard him in the game. It sounded too "smoky" as if Black was a massive chain smoker. I just thought, 'Not a fan of that..hopefully it will improve for the show' and it did and I'm glad it did because the slight hint of British to Goku's voice is something I find interesting. Chris was the same when it came to the Android, Cell saga with Vegeta. He sounded too whiny for my taste, and I was very pleased when he changed it up to have more of a rasp with a deep voice in the Buu saga. I'm sad that the rasp is gone in Kai and Super, but if it's better for Chris' health, I'm not complaining.
We were one question away from the last question.. But later got to meet him at the booth and get some signatures, he was still kinda feelin it I guess Still was cool, I enjoyed it..ready for Dragonball z con!
Did he just accidentally leak that Goku Black is going to be in legends even though it’s obvious a lot of the dragon ball series cast is going to be in the game???? 😱😱😱 Haha lol I’m sorry
One thing I have noticed about the hardcore db community is that they take DB a little too seriously. Whether you like or dislike the british rose voice is up to you but insulting another human being over how he portrays a cartoon character just makes you a massive douche. DB is a show that is meant to attract the pre-teen and teen boy demographic but most of the fans are adults who think DB needs to be super serious and mature and everything with it needs to be protected. Go on a date, hang out with friends, pick up a hobby. Dragonball shouldn't cause this much anger nor should it consume your life
I'd really just love to sit down with this guy over a hot drink、he's extremely interesting when he's not talking about work and gets into things like philosophy
That's what makes Sean happy. He has said time and time again that he wants you to believe in this character and not think of him doing the voice. If he has ''tricked'' you with his voice, he says he's doing his job right.
Kaka - chan he even voiced someone in pokemon if u watch the pokemon league in advanced battle theirs a trainer named Morrison and every dbz fan will say that he sounds so much like king kai
Pokédex holder No problem bud, I was scrubbing to find it too. Lol. Was a short mention, but it was exciting to hear that Sean got a Nintendo Switch too. 💖
I think its funny mostly from other interviews, but just how opposite these actors are from their characters. Where they guy who does vegita is so full of love and entheusiasm, and the guy who does goku is so cynical, grumpy and sometimes pretty mean. lol its silly.
I respect Sean alot. He is really amazing, I look up to him so much. I am an up and coming voice actor and have only been doing it for 2 years and I can understand how he got defensive about Black. I can do multiple voices from Dragon Ball and black is a tough character to voice. That was the toughest voice for me. Took me 1 month to get down perfectly. Me and my friends do voices and are currently remaking the show from dragon ball to dragon ball super while trying to do everyones voices as perfect as we can and its hard. Especially the battles going ha hi hea. Its tough.
People who say that Sean Schemmel does the best voice for Goku are delusional. It is common knowledge that Goku is the one that voices Sean Schemmel. I hate it when people don't get it right.
Its really a two way street when it comes to the whole entertainer and viewer thing. On one hand, sure the viewer might not know a thing about what goes into the thing their watching. However on the other, they know what they are watching and what they like out of it. The difference is, there a millions of viewers all with different perspectives about what makes it good, while theres only a few artists making it happen. Eventually people just got to take it for what it is. Its all a process and goku rose was exactly that, a developing thing thatkept shifting the more concrete it became of what he was. By the time he goes rose, his voice should change like zamasu, because up until that point you shouldnt think it was zamasu in gokus body. So the sharp shift makes sense to me on that alone. Plus it also kinda emphasizes how more comfortable he gets being in that body that his normal mannerism come out. When before hes all stiff in base.
Wow talk about having your jimmies rustled. Would have been funny if the next question would have been just a little alteration about why he made the goku black voice sound British hahahaha.
The Goku Black question seemed pretty innocent to me. I know Goku Black's voice is a touchy subject for him but jeez, the guy wasn't criticizing him, he was asking a legitimate question at a panel about character Sean portrayed; the best source. Part of the point of these panels is for fans to get insight into the creative process, just seems like he jumped the gun on getting defensive. No one was telling him how to do his job here, quite the opposite.
Why are most of you vic fan are coming to hate on this video. This has nothing to do with the whole drama. Get that shit out of here and talked about it on a vic video. You made this community bad. Not all of you the vic fan who hate him the video
Haha, seeing the last QA from, than he even talks more than I do XD No worries Sean, I love Black, and I am sure that the game would begreat also (Haven't played it yet)
carnstar wow I was actually thinking the exact same thing haha don't know if there's any truth behind the claim or if he really is hyped on caffeine but he sure is talking extremely fast
I adore Sean but him getting triggered reading off his whole resume every time someone asks him about goku black sounds like the navy seals copypasta lmao
I think we can agree he's a hypocrite here. He said don't critics his work, but yet he says, and no joke work dof rword that with the special editions Lucas "ruined my childhood". Like what? Sean is a person too i'm happy that he opened up about the stuff that bothers him about some fans of dragon ball

Me gusta el doblaje inglés por el grito es un genio dígale a sean que no grita tanto por su garganta aveces nos preocupamos por su garganta de él porque cuando grita mucho se va quedar sin voz :( me gusta el doblaje inglés de dragon ball saludos
He has a lot of experience people do not know about. He is a Fabulous french horn player. He is a wonderful caring person. He will always tell you the truth.
Thank you very much! GamingObjections, wonderful audio and video quality, i loved this panel, also love how honest Sean is with his fans, it's wonderful to be able to watch this without having gotten to attend the comic con :)
If I’m being honest here, when I’m watching one of these particular videos, with Sean included. I could honestly, listen to him ramble on all day, or how ever long the video lasts. Like he just answered like what, 4-6 questions? And his answers may have been long, but honestly, they make a lot of sense. I also love that he tried to get to the point of what he’s trying to say for a fan’s question, and it makes so much sense. 😁 Personally, I respect the guy wholeheartedly, for his hardcore devotion to his role as Goku, and the love for his fans, and I believe it, when he mentioned that his first audition literally saved his life(well I don’t know that for sure, I’m just basing on what he said, a lil bit) any-who, my point is, is that no matter what other people may think of him, or stuff like that. I think he’s a good guy…he’s just like the rest of us, just living his life, and we just so happen to love what he does in his life, career wise. But I think that, honestly, I couldn’t be happier knowing that he is doing his utmost hardest, so he not only enjoys what he’s doing, but that we enjoy it too. I gotta give credit where credit is due, and Sean, I think, and this is from my perspective of watching these particular videos. But I think that he’s an awesome guy, and I couldn’t be happier having him around as the great legendary engdub-Goku. 😁 *Thanks Sean, you’ve inspired so many people, keep up the good work, I’m glad your doing 👌*
I haven't been a fan of Sean's performance over the last few years and and I agree with some of the criticism levied towards him but I understand how frustrating it is when people with no idea what they're talking about try to tell you how to do something. I don't really agree with his approach towards dubbing and that "artistic freedom" thing he goes on about but I can't fault him for getting defensive over his work when there are hundreds of people hounding him on twitter and reddit with a limited understanding of his situation shitting on his goku black performance and telling him how do his job. I don't admire Sean as much as I used to when I was younger but I think he gets way too much hate for his work when he's shown some massive improvements over the years.
Barnaby J It like the fan base suddenly have a degree in acting all of a sudden. As fans, we can like and dislike anything based on opinions being developed in the process. I saw that reddit page and it was a shitshow. Even Chris have to walk away from the ignorance of fans. Fans need to learn that you don't get what they want and loving a series more than life itself doesn't make you a good director. That's not how it works.
I think the problem is when they condescend to fans. Some can be assholes, but they use the few as scapegoats for legitmately good criticisms.i don't think anyone here can say piccolo sounds better in Kai then in z. He sounds like drunk frog. And I love sabay
After a time i understand why goku black was british. Sean tried to bring across some tips to who Black is. Sean trying to imitate the british accent of the Zamasu actor is a pretty big hint as to whom Black actually is.
People will say he got super defensive and rip on him in the comments about it but Sean is just a real stand up genuine dude that understands how the world works and how he affects it. It’s no wonder an individual reacts like a normal person because they feel like a normal person to constant criticism. Hypocrisy or not it’s undeniable that he isn’t just being a douche about it. He’s doing what he can for a franchise he loves
