That is the most sensible and honest advice I've heard in a while. For anyone interested in making money from RU-vid, Lamar hit the nail on the head. Teaching and blogging on RU-vid can lead to a considerable supplemental income. You can really up the ante if you can present your material in an interesting and entertaining fashion. Next time you start a project, film it. Pass on your knowledge. With a little experience, you can really zero in and give the people what they want. It only takes a few hours a week. $500 to $1,000 a month is a very obtainable goal. And with experience, much more money can be had. Hell, I've made a few bucks from filming my cat running around the house. I sound like one of those late night infomercials.

Hey LaMar, Another great informational video .It's good to see your vids- How To Have A Home and How To Build approching 2 million views. It's about time you got your songs out man, great stuff! Got your e book and have been keeping up with ya for a little over two years Bought my 2.5 acres three years ago. Dirt cheap raw land. I have 1 and a half cleared (by hand) with the pad sight. Great advice, parked my trailer out there and camp out every vacation and chance I get. The cabin location has changed twice each one a better place than the last, (now I can see the lay of my property). I haven't made the jump out of the city yet. But when we are ready we plan a smooth transition from the rat race to peaceful freedom. I just want to say thanks for the insight and insperation. You have been a big help to me.

All good advice. I agree about ebay. I started selling in 2003..knives and such. Got fee'd to death. I have sold a few things on their recently but if an item doesent sell right off the bat it's easy to spend more to relist than it's worth. Kinda what happened with swap meets..

I was making Ebay a lot of money but they didn't want to sell ebooks so they dropped my account. It is the new management and they are losing business left and right.

good points on making money, i bought my land a year ago its 11.5 acres taxes are around 200.00 a year, no building codes, only septic/electric permits needed. no water yet, the city will be running city water out there soon, i hope. dont have 12k for a well. i might install water collection system. neighbor has a power pole 180 feet away i can get i can get electric brought over for free, just have to pay for the permit.

Sounds like good property! The city is bringing through water here this year and while I won't hook up it is good to know I could if my well ever dried up.

Hey LeMar I agree w/ ya on ebay... but for some items I sell it's the only way... We are Homesteading on our 3rd place now, 1 in Vt. 1 in a rental (hence our name ) and the 1 we are in now and we have found that it's best to have 3 or 4 different things going all the time to keep the homestead going... I have scrapped metal, Ebayed ,Craiglisted, fleamarketed, auctioned, bought sold traded and swapped just about everything to help make ends meet...People need to do what they are good at and make that work for them... That's what we try to have come across on our channel here on YT and we are thinking about doing a web site also... Greetings from nc tim

Thanks- yes homesteaders are generally creative in how they make their money and never become to reliant on just one source. Create several side-stream incomes and look for new opportunities all the time.

I had a well drilled this summer. A little under $9.000.00 bucks and that didn't count the pump,lines,wiring and tank.That would have been another $5.500 and some odd dollars :( I did that myself. I feel for anyone trying to do anything this day and age. I have skills but doubt anyone would pay me to teach them. I wish you the very best with all your projects.

I purchased your book (Ultimate Off Grid Guide), and it is a great resource. Thank you. My only suggestion is to add more white space in the inner margins. It is difficult to read at the margins of the book as it is currently printed.
@solarcabin
@solarcabin 10 лет назад
Hi Alex, I don't have control of the printing and not happy with the company that does it. If you contact me I will send you a copy of the ebook to go with it.

no permits, crap like that here. only exception is the harassement and difficulty getting electric from the 'coop', if you put a well in it has to be 'registered' with the department of 'unnatural' resources, and if you have 3+ acres you can have a septic installed by a licensed installer, under 3 acres you have to have some special engineered septic. we use an incinerator toilet so no septic involved.
@solarcabin
@solarcabin 10 лет назад
Thanks Fritze, every place is a little different so people need to know the codes before getting the land and understand the optional ways around codes like composting and incinerating toilets.
@fritze3849

yep, the only purpose permits serve is $$$ in my opinion no gubberment has the right to tell one how to live on their property,

I'm curious Lamar, why does that area being a big oil area now have anything to do with letting people homestead a smaller piece of land? Amen to everything you said about making money online! Very cool and well said. I think you and I should talk about something I have in mind at some point. I enjoyed this video!
@solarcabin
@solarcabin 10 лет назад
The oil drilling brings in a lot of people to live and work in the area so the county is putting in water lines and you won't need a water well. They required 5 acres to have a water well.

Hi Lamar. I have a question. It might not go along with the topic of this video but I did not see a specific video for my question. What brand/type of wind generators would you recommend for wind power off grid? I have a full city block in a ghost town in Eastern Montana and I want to live out there eventually. I see those little 400-600 watt wind turbines advertised on Amazon and Ebay but are those any good or even worth the $500-$1000 for them? Thanks. Shea

How did you get your isbn for your book?
@solarcabin
@solarcabin 10 лет назад
Amazon or Lulu will assign an ISBN and you can then use that ISBN for your own use or you can pay for an ISBN and it isn't too expensive.

Hi Red and thanks. You ground the Neg post on your battery to a ground post. I used a 3 foot piece of rebar and some old jumper cable. Sorry I don't do inspections.

Hi LaMar, I' m studying architecture and I`m doing a project about sustainability and I chose to talk about your home because I think you solve a lot of problems in once, for this project i need to know some stuff, most of my classmates chose famous buildings and they have all the info they need, i don`t, I`ve been investigating a lot but I wanted to ask you some question, I really hope you can answer this. How did the idea come? what where you thinking? do you know other places where the model of your house has been constructed? did you have any problem or limiting factor to face when you were building it? Did the materials were reused? if you want to add any extra information, it would be great!!! !

Great video! You have given me a lot more confidence in my own online pursuits. (photography, 3d design, videography, writing.) I got the youtube angle down pretty much though Google loves to hassle us smaller guys and tries very hard to push us out imo. Do you pay for web hosting or do you go with a free plan? The free plans seem to work unless you want to upload large files like, video or large images.
@solarcabin
@solarcabin 10 лет назад
I pay for a website because the free websites do not get on the search engines as much but it doesn't cost too much. Weebly has a good design platform and you can get a domain name after you get set up.

I currently use Godaddy, they are OK, but I have had a few minor issues with them. Many people go with Hostgator and seem to have good luck. Stick with Wordpress for your website. Extremely easy for the novice to build a good looking and functional website.

Hey my family might go to Arizona for land do you know of any type of business we could start there? I'm asking because we are having trouble finding full time jobs around that area.
@carolzebrowski5348
@carolzebrowski5348 10 лет назад
just curious but do you have to pay insurance on your land or home anything like that?
@solarcabin
@solarcabin 10 лет назад
Insurance is not required in most rural areas unless you have a mortgage and your bank requires it. You can get personal property insurance which is less expensive.
