Just got through watching this episode of WARD Radio, and reading 1/3 of The Lost 116 Pages, and I am now a Don Bradley super fan, as well as a subscribed member to the podcast. I have a theory that came to me while studying BoM a month ago, and reading Tvedtnes' book. What if the Urim and Thummim JS used at the beginning of the translation worked to show the characters on the plates in one lens, and the corresponding English translation in the other lens? Then, as JS became more familiar with the characters, he could skip to using the peepstone for the later part. The translation would have sped along very quickly at that point. Don Bradley, feel free to disprove with your awesome wisdom!

Since a lot of people were sharing their stories of meeting apostles, I wanted to share mine. When I was about 13 or 14 I was late to church one day. I remember finally walking to church because we live close and my dad met me halfway there. I was expecting to be scolded, like he frequently would, when I was late to church, but this time he just told me that I was missing out at church, because a member of the quorum of the 12 apostle was in our sacrament meeting on the stand. Panic immediately said in,. In that moment, I got a little sense of what it would feel like to be unworthy at the resurrection. My entire family was in a sacrament meeting, where an apostle of the Lord spoke, and I was sleeping in my pajamas. Thankfully, the Lord is very full of mercy, and as I went to Sunday school, where they combined all the youth and had a Q&A with elder Bednar, taking our questions. I’m sure I asked a moronic question, I do not remember what my question was. I know for certain that somebody in the room asked if he’d seen Jesus Christ, which, I know he just said it’s too sacred. And the adults were really embarrassed. So anyways, be on time for church, be worthy of the resurrection, and don’t ask the apostle sacred question.

Haven't even gotten ten minutes into this episode, and Don "The dedicated disciple of delicious doctrine, and documentation" Bradley drops such an awesome nugget of a paradigm shift for how to view a prophet. I think what Woodruff said about Joseph, says a lot about what kind of man Joseph was, and I would have loved to get to know him personally: "I declare, Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. I heard Joseph Smith say that if he were Emperor of the World, we would make sure that everybody had the right to practice their religion in the way the want to practice it." .. Wished some more religions would live up to that, for in the end its just the golde rule applied

A couple of points. Firstly, I was President Kimball’s bodyguard. Way back when he toured the UK, he had young men to block the entrances to the stand so he could have space. We also held hands around him and Camilla so he could meet the Saints and yet have room to breathe, he was that tiny. He signed my mission call up papers. Regarding Don Bradley, I have nothing but respect for his insight and scholarly approach to his research. I am an old LDS believing in the Lamanite Indians, Meso-America as well as the old style endowment. His measured tones and references to other works is helpful to us old dogs!

I don't know where the notion that Hugh Nibley had never traveled to the "Old World" came from. He served a mission in Germany. Then later, he landed on "Utah" Beach on D-Day, eventually ending up in Germany, revisiting some of the areas he proselyted at, when no one was shooting at him. There is also a video called "Faith of a Scholar" where you see Nibley walking through Egyptian Ruined temples where he translates in real time the hieroglyphs on the walls.

Actually, Nibley did visit the Old World. He served a mission in Germany, was in Europe during WWII, and I know he visited at least one archaeological site in Egypt because he took a leave of absence from his Book of Mormon class that can be found on youtube for it.

On the subject of whether everyone will have to practice polygamy: when I was at BYU in the 80’s, a newspaper article was published by a sociology professor who said that very few people would need to practice polygamy in the hereafter. He based this on calculations of the number of young unmarried men who have died in war, assuming a certain percentage of them will make it to the celestial kingdom. Can’t remember the professor’s name.

@@nightshadow73As far as I know, when Parley P. Pratt made his report, Bigfoot, or Sasquatch as he was known to the Native Americans, was still only known to the Native Americans, and wasn't reported outside of their tribes. Cain was cursed from the earth, to be a wanderer and a vagabond in the earth. So it is said that he is still alive. And we know those before the flood, and to some extent after, were giants, or of large stature. So it does make sense. That's why most sightings of Sasquatch are a single male. The others that aren't a single male, could easily be attributed to fakes, based on the assumption that "Bigfoots" must be a surviving missing link species. But even if every alleged sighting was true, you still wouldn't have a big enough population to be viable.

The disconnect in worldly minds with Joseph as a Prophet and the book of Abraham is that what he produced is not, like the Book of Mormon, a direct translation of the 'thing', though Joseph may have mistakenly thought so, but a direct revelation based on the questions Joseph was asking and he related each item to what he learned. That means the book of Abraham is not a translation but a revelation triggered by what Joseph was interested in. And what happened to the actual parchment/papyrus that prompted his revelation? In the end Joseph was above everything a seer and revelator. That is the reason for all so called disparities, which the world would not understand because it is a spiritual concept.

@@HelibearWomble Here’s what Book of Mormon witness David Whitmer said: [H]e used a stone called a “Seers stone,” the “Interpreters” having been taken away from him because of transgression. The “Interpreters” were taken from Joseph after he allowed Martin Harris to carry away the 116 pages of Ms [manuscript] of the Book of Mormon as a punishment, but he was allowed to go on and translate by use of a “Seers stone” which he had, and which he placed in a hat into which he buried his face, stating to me and others that the original character appeared upon parchment and under it the translation in English. - An Address to All Believers in Christ, 1887, p.13

@@HelibearWombleand if the Lord had already warned Joseph to not let it go, then it makes sense that the Lord would withhold that divine revelation again by way of consequence for disobedience. And because the same basic information within 116 pages is also included in other places in the BOM we do have, it seems that God knew before hand that Joseph would disobey, and so preemptively accounted for this issue and covered the info elsewhere, while also being able to enact a punishment or repentance enduring event for Smith at the same time.

It crosses over all the sacred restoration. Places . Al of them . And in all the cities named Salem . A lot of people think it is a warning to repent like the city of nivevah . I heard that some deal was actually made to buy the kirtland temple because they are desperate for money but their price may be too high so ii heard negotiations are going . We just need to wait and see if it is true .

Comparing Joseph to David and Solomon is disgraceful framing ! Jacob 2:24 Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord. 25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph. 26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old. 27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;

8:54 your definition of a prophet may be accurate, however, members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, believe prophets to be seers and revelator’s as well which means that he would be able to translate and reveal it to us correctly, if you were to prophet of God 😁👍🏼👍🏼 Hope that clears up that simple confusion for you that almost anybody else would understand 😁👍🏼👍🏼
