Welcome back to The Viall Files! Today we have another special “where are they now” update show where we give you updates from our past callers, to see what’s happened in their situations and relationships since appearing on the show. So let’s end the year by getting some last updates from our callers! We bring on our first caller from who originally called in for advice after breaking up with her boyfriend for his refusal to introduce our caller to his family. Getting back together with some red flags still present, our caller wonders how to navigate getting back together with your ex. We then get an update from our caller who wanted to shoot her shot with someone she went on a date with in the past, after this guy is leaving breadcrumbs of interest. We then get an update from our caller who appeared on our episode with Victoria and Greg. Originally calling in because her boyfriend was having trust issues and going through her phone, we get an update if our caller took Nick’s advice to break up with her boyfriend tonight. We also read some updates from our callers! We get an update from our caller who received 89 text messages from her ex, our caller who canceled on due to bad weather, and our caller who doesn’t want her friend coming in to bring her boyfriend.

Caller one: DISAGREE. It is not for him to assimilate and look at relationships exactly as she does. They both have to compromise. & it is NOT bs or an excuse that he prefers to wait until close to engaged or engagement to introduce his partner to his family. It is cultural! If she is not okay with that, she should indeed move on. & their relationship needs a lot of work. Rushing to meet the family at this point makes no sense given the cultural context.

AGREED! Honestly I was surprised Nick was so on her side, they seem to bring equal dysfunctional behaviors to the relationship.

Nick might need to expand his circle of friends if he’s not aware that it is a cultural standard for many cultures that a child must see a future with their potential partner before introducing them to the parents. It’s a standard for many.

First caller, the issue is not wanting more from a relationship and breaking up, it's using breaking up to try to make a point but then getting back together 5 times. Why keep coming back? Let the next breakup be last and don't play games.

I have to see, I think caller one is just as much to blame. I don’t love the handling of their cultural differences. She needs to either break up or stay, it’s manipulative to keep breaking up with someone to make a point.

If I was from a culture where I only introduced serious partners to my family, and my current partner had broken up with me 5 times in two years instead of working through issues, I wouldn’t be rushing to make the introduction either.

I’ve been in the EXACT same shoes as the first caller. It’s really tough. But I think it’s best to go with your gut if you have concerns. A relationship can’t survive just off love. It needs more than that

I love updates, but the wind surfer update felt like you guys inserted the wrong clip. There was a clip of a girl texting a guy “If you want to have sex later…” and he never responded. Then you immediately cut to an update where she’s saying “when I got back from traveling I ended it” and you’re suddenly talking about wind surfing. Was I the only one confused by that?

Same! I kept wondering if I just missed something? But it seems like they only played the clip of the original call with the girl saying “if you want to have sex” and then there was never actually any present-day discussion or update for that one??

As a parent, the ‘Polite Demand’ is a necessity. Saying ‘could you please clean your room’ isn’t meant to be manipulative, but to not constantly sound like a nag every waking moment of our parenthood. And also to encourage our kids to help by their own decision to be helpful, not just because it’s demanded of them. At the same time, the kids answering ‘no’ to these questions is never a real option 😉
