I am a 25 year retired nurse. Seen many dead bodies. Never changes. It still hurts your ❤! Especially if you have cared for them A long time. Got to know them and thier family. They all was family to me. Still breaks your ❤! We touched each others lives! When they die, it will bring you to your knees! There is a vacancy in your heart, that only they filled! You will miss them so much! It hurts badly! There is a place in your ❤ for them always! At least we got to love, and be with them! The pain will eventually go away. But thier memories will be with you forever! Nothing can replace this love! People's, and critters are not slabs of dead meat! We all. Live and love! Good luck to this lady that hasn't seen a dead body.

I thought I'd freak out the first time I went to my Human Anatomy class, but once I was there, I realized that the dead body is a study guide. It's there to help you understand the body. The cadavers, depending on how old they are, don't usually have superficial skin, so they don't look as much like dead people. My professor put a sheet over the head (though you can't make out the face anyways) for students who were freaked out by it. Of course, if you don't get over the "Hey, it's a dead body" shock after 2 weeks, drop the class. It's not for you.

I had a friend who went to Medical Field as well and wasn't used to seeing a Head being cut Open. In school that is what they do they study on Cadavers. On his first day 1 Minute after they cut the Head Open, he Threw up right where he stood. The 2nd day it took about 2 Minutes before he did. The 3rd day it took about 5 Minutes and was able to run to the nearest Janitor room to throw up Then it went on... Now he is the one Opening them Heads and he is happy that he was able to do this for a living. He makes good money and he has a career. This lady will have to get used to it. Majority of people in the Medical Field went thru the same way. Not too many can stand the sight of a dead body if it was the first time seeing it. I wish her Good Luck, if she really wants this She will be Fine.

I worked in a nursing home for 10 years. So I have seen a lot of dying and dead people. The first one was unsettling, but it got easier, even after maybe knowing the person for years. The death of your own family member is completely different. It helps having faith that they are going somewhere better and that there human suffering is over. The body seems like a empty suitcase a person left behind.

My advice: be brave. Face your fears. It's usually not as bad as you've imagined.

Best of luck to the woman looking to be a forensic scientist. It's a good field. Having worked in the funeral industry I just wanted to take a second to point out that embalmers work really hard to make sure loved ones look nice. While touching can provide a feeling of comfort, please be mindful that it can also cause the loved one to look disheveled. Please realize that it can take hours to make hair, make up, and clothing look good. Arms and hands are positioned to look a certain way. There are also tricks embalmers use to keep eyes and mouths shut. They may even create ears and/or noses out of clay if needed. I'm not saying don't touch. I'm just saying that if you do decide to touch, please be careful and reverent.

Exactly Steve. If she cannot stand being around dead bodies, forensic science is not for her. She should check with her University's science dept and inquire if there are field trips to any nearby med schools in order to witness an autopsy. That is what I did, and I went to the Yale School of Medicine to make sure I was not going to pass out. Let me tell you, as the autopsy is being explained and demonstrated, you are so focused on learning and listening to the pathologist, that you forget all about being scared.

I laughed for 10 mins after this, cuz I understood his problem, he experienced both cultures and he knew how the mentality of his friend is going to be.

I was in a hospital one time visiting a friend and they rolled a dead person right past me ..... I started praying for that person.... I wldnt be able to wrk in a hospital much less a funeral home or anything like that not because I get sick.. I just start praying for the dead ppl. 👏👏👏

Between the ages of 9-13 we lived beside a funeral home. I used to go in to talk to the directors, eat doughnuts and just hang out. One day I walked in and being used to the smell of formaldehyde, I saw a child in an open casket and she looked all alone (this was prior to the showing) so I rubbed her hand and told her I was sorry. The head director saw me and made me go in the back because the family was soon to arrive. Now alone in the back I went to the room where they embalmed the decedents. I wasnt shocked but it was an awakening when I saw the yet to be cleaned room. In college 20+/- yrs later we had to dissect a cat and people were running out vomiting because of the smell and many had to drop their major because they just couldnt do it. We each had a partner and my partner did absolutely nothing as I did everything and because we were partners we both got an A+. I have to wonder how far she made it.......

I have seen so many dead bodies!! Even a 2 year old the daughter of a friend of mine. I have never been afraid of it or impressed.

I believe its unprofessional to think of it as just a dead body. You cant put your emotions in front of the person that lost their life when it's your job to help know the reason of death. Think of it as helping that person, or their family.

I used to clean a big funeral home once a week usually late eve or after dark you wouldn’t believe how hard it is the get people to help you clean the place this is life it happens an some Times bodies were being dropped off for prep or they prepping them late when we there or there’s body set up for next morning viewing people freak out over nothing it’s life

Coming from someone who seen more than one dead body, it can be pretty shocking. Especially when there's internal stuff visible. Seeing a clean body in a funeral home, is totally different from seeing a fresh one with pretty much all the gruesome details on full display. Unless you're a nutcase, the I'm about to puke feeling is unavoidable.

Its been ten years now since i stepped in my first anatomy class and everytime i have to attend postmoterms i still freak out, ive never been comfortable with it

Been there done that, just kept moving. Lady at funeral would speak to me every time she saw me for years.

It is really easy , think that is a person that deserves same respect and attention like a living person. That person was a child , a parent and or a grandparent for someone so give them your respect and treat the like the living . That is how I did it and that is how I still do it

Steve I worked homicides with law enforcement. I've seen dead bodies in all forms and sizes. Cut up, heads off, you name it. Once and a while the person would be in one piece. Albeit animals earing on their thigh or whatever. You have to have a spirit that allows you to do this. Pray, pray. God blessings to this gal. You did the right thing.

I'm a forensic scientist. There's more to do than just deal with corpses. You could be a ballistics expert, you could be a toxicologist, you could even work cold cases like me. And that doesnt even scratch the surface. There's so many jobs in forensics that don't involve being near the deceased. The only people who NEED to be around a dead body are the crime scene investigators, first responders, photographers, and the coroner/medical examiner.

I went for a viewing at a funeral home earlier this year, which I usually don't do, and my I saw the lady who passed on...I look behind in the other room and they had another person there too for viewing. I was traumatized. I did not go close to the body. Well, I had nightmares where I was seeing dead bodies all over. My uncle is so afraid of dead bodies that if he is even near a funeral home he gets physically ill. He did not go to my grandparents funeral or his kids funeral. He tried to go to another funeral to support my parents when my other grandmother died last year and he had to return home because he got ill on the way when he got close to the funeral home.

My first dead body was weird. It was for human anatomy and o felt really sad. Wasn't scared or freaked out. Just felt bad for the cadavers but it goes away after a while plus you're lecturers are used to people freaking out. Don't worry about it. You'll adjust.

I’m almost sure everyone in that class hadn’t been around one like that even the officers and forensic scientists get freaked out by the horrible things they see every day I wouldnt recommend it to anybody who can’t handle it it’s so brutal to see

I taught my own self how not to be afraid of a dead body when I go to a funeral I will give the person a kiss goodbye in the casket

I never seen a real dead human body but knowing myself, they wouldn't be scary to me unless their eyes are open. Soulless eyes scare me out of everything else.

I'm a 55 year old man and I've never seen a dead body in real life, not that I'm complaining... I'm fortunate in not having been to many funerals and even when my lovely mother died 28 years ago I chose not to see her body but to remember her in happier times.

Staring and investigating a real dead body at a crime scene is on a totally different level compared to TV shows. It's even a lot more to take in than processed/tidy cadavers for medical studies. If she's never seen one before she's likely to get overwhelmed by all the stench, deformity and juice, but you will seriously get used to these things after a while.
