In this episode we discuss the treatment options for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, including the Third Endoscopic Ventriculostomy, or ETV, a surgical method that allows for treatment without the use of a shunt. This Ask the Expert NPH Video Series was made possible through the generosity of our industry partner Codman, a part of Integra Lifesciences who we thank for supporting this important program!
NOTE TO VIEWER: Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is a form of hydrocephalus that typically impacts individuals age 55 and older and is characterized by a triad of symptoms: gait disturbance or difficulty walking, mild dementia and impaired bladder control. Tune into our other Ask the Expert series if you were diagnosed as a child or a young to middle-aged adult.

Great video! Very informative. I'm a recent recipient of ETV NPH Surgery and happy to know I was a candidate. I really didn't want the shunt they were originally discussing and overnight things changed. I'm so thankful. Hope it has lasting results!

I am 3 weeks post VP shunt placement for NPH. My gait and cognition have improved dramatically!! My bladder control is better but still an issue. Unfortunately I am experiencing lightheadedness which becomes relatively severe after I’ve been awake for a while. I do not have headaches although I do feel some “pressure” in my head. Any suggestions? Dave

I was diagnosed with arrested hydrocephalus in 2003 , and I didn’t want undergo the surgery then (since I had 2 babies) Finally I had ETV surgery in June 2020 I was 50 then, for me it went well. After the first 3 months MRI, the liquid had reduced BUT by the 6th month MRI there was no progress. Now my doctor says I have to put a Shunt in.
