Really like this new song & Ben Bruce has said on a podcast that Dark Void is a balance between what the new album will bring. He's said there are some heavier songs and some softer songs on the record and Dark Void kind of captures both aspects. Buzzing for what's next!

I saw that interview too and he says things much more clearly than danny just saying we arent making heavy songs again . Ben gave a reason and is trying to please both old and new fans and explained why danny cannot scream as much as he used too
@CruikshankSCP

The word “heavy” in the heavy metal umbrella has 2 meanings: the first being the sound, instrumentation and vocal style. Metalheads want to hear their favorite bands do the craziest riffs, thunderous drumbeats, headbanging breakdowns and do crazy vocals to the point where you don’t know what they are saying The second meaning for “heavy” is the subject material in the song. A vast majority of songs in heavy metal deal with heavy subjects like drug use, war, suicide, cancer, mental illness, domestic violence, the whole nine yards And what Asking Alexandria is doing with “Dark Void” and the rest of their upcoming album, they are clearly doing both meanings of “heavy.” They got the riffs, they got the drumbeats, and they got the vocal style-side of “heavy.” But they also have the lyrical meaning of “heavy”, the song is about “fighting demons that live in your head and trying your hardest to be your own savior. Finding that strength to pull yourself out of the darkness.” That quote is from Ben Bruce himself on an article from Blabbermouth about the song When I saw people commenting on the band and Better Noise’s Instagram posts, “That is not heavy,” “where is the heavy?” I pretty much said to myself “Umm…did you forget the subject of songs can be heavy too?” I know this post might not make sense and might turn off a few if it does, but I had to jump in and clear the air a bit

Ben Bruce said that on their new record they are experimenting what they can, but this song was a teaser for heavier songs on their upcoming album. I’m stoked! Danny has some killer vocals. I’m okay with them changing! I miss their Reckless and Relentless stuff, but I completely understand as to why they had to change styles. They got older and they got wiser and sober. I’m happy for them, ya know? Other fans always seem to get upset at bands getting sober and doing their own things. I miss the way they used to make music, but I’m happier that they are doing what they love!🤘🏻

No disrespect to your opinion, but I feel like the music they made that deviated from their sound was so objectively missing the mark, it was hard to justify that genre shift. If you ask me, their 2017 self titled was their perfect way to incorporate new sounds while still retaining their identity.

Most people/fans don't care that they aren't actually heavy or changed sounds. It's that the music is bland and forgettable. Just look at BMTH changing it up constantly to positive reception.

The first half of the Black is easily the most top heavy AA album. If the last half was as good as those songs, they probably wouldn't have been able to top it. To me, their best work was without Danny 🤷 And most people dismiss it due to how fast Dennis was out of the band. Danny isn't an idiot though. Even when Dennis was principle song writer on them, he still wants to play them. It's anthemic, heavy, and melodic metalcore that features at least two or three songs from the 200 best metalcore songs of the 2010s.
