Well, to each their own. It's amazing they were quite honest about their opinions, although I don't agree with all of them. I think people should be able to have civilized conversations like this even if we have differing opinions, so this was good to see.
I’m glad that this was a constructive conversation with differing opinions, it really puts into perspective that Korea holds many people with different opinions, same as America. I really hope that people stop hating on the people in the video because this is one of the first videos I’ve seen that is more honest about the reality of Korea, and I worry that the hate people get in this video might be taken into consideration the next time someone makes a video on Korea and others will be wary of being entirely truthful because they’ll be worried about getting hated on. The people who clicked on this video clearly wanted truthful and honest opinions so it’s time to be respectful when disagreeing with them in the comments, please have a little empathy that some people in the video were not raised the same as you and therefore do not have the same knowledge as you about the world and it’s important to treat them with care as well and hope that they will try to make an effort to learn more.
People will always judge others based on their own biases. It doesn’t matter where you are from. Folks should be themselves, always, no matter how others will see them. Stand for what you believe. You will learn things are not always how you see life through different experiences. Only you can change perspective through those. But, never be afraid to be you. Not everyone has to like you, nor do you have to like everyone. It’s ok.
He said, there is misunderstanding and ppl like "clean" skin, so it doesn't have to be white/pale skin. (not always). as a south korean, I agree with him. it's true that many koreans like white, bright, or clean skin (especially about women), but clean skin matters than skin color. Also surely, there are koreans who like darker skin too and many koreans don't have pale skin either! 🙂 and i have darker skin as a SK woman. (but korean women tend to try to have more white/bright skin..) and all skin color should be respected. i think koreans don't discriminate by skin color, but if you have white or clean skin, especially as a woman, many koreans who like white skin will like it. that's all..!
@@seren6cher8ryso basically you said he’s both right & wrong😂let’s be honest east asia mainly likes white skin whether it be for colorism or do to poor farmers being darker from being out the sun & the wealthy being paler mentality they got😭all that trying to add in clean skin shit to that topic was just bs lol
Koreans have fairly light skin by default so people who have darker skin get it by getting tanned which inevitably comes other kinds of sun damage like freckles and uneven skin tone. That's why Koreans think of pale and clear almost equivalently. They come together. If korea had been multi ethnic for some time we would've differentiated those two more clearly but these perceptions are generated by Koreans looking at other Koreans

the most shocking part of this video was when the guy in the middle said gay people should hide who they are 💀but then he has the audacity to say we're all the same ???
I think that people like him have no awareness about history or the realities of the world, they need to take time to educate themselves, because if their opinion or beliefs are to judge or degrade others for their identity or personal differences that is an issue between them and their God. There is a reason why states worldwide separate from the church. Thank God for the strength he gave to people who at some point decided that they had enough abuse and mistreatment. Thank God for civil movements and revolutions, because thanks to those acts today Human Rights exist. Which they also enjoy and protect equally. Yet Jesus also said, “I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another” (John 13:34).
@Jhnkiyvfdc Because he's brainwashed. In his mind he shouldn't have to hide who he is, that would be persecution. But anyone he doesn't like should hide who they are. 💀💀 So individualistic and self centered.
The only way to prove if being gay is natural is to look at animals in how they engage with one another. If they aren’t naturally having relations of the same sex as their own, then why do humans think it’s natural to do so?
Everyone in the comments saying what the middle guy said isn't homophobic is baffling. He literally said if his friend came out as gay he would slowly cut him off is literally homophobia. Putting someone around you in a position where they need to choose whether to be open and true to themselves or keep a friendship is literal homophobia and not a preference. He has his opinion which everyone is entitled to but his opinion is if you're gay hide it. Like??? And for everyone who thinks gay people are all loud about their sexuality and you know....pride and cross-dressing that is such a small representation of queer people and sadly the most depicted.

Given Donggeun's religion, his environment, and how he was raised, I'm not shocked. Korea is very conservative. I actually commend him for being willing to talk openly about how he feels even though we fundamentally disagree. I hope that he doesn't continue to confine himself to these beliefs as he gets older, because anybody has the capacity to find love and be attracted to anybody else, even when you're least expecting it. If he were to ever develop those sorts of feelings later on in life, he'd feel so ashamed. We deserve to celebrate love and be happy and treat people kindly.
Just cause he doesn't share the same open mentality as you do it doesn't mean he is wrong for following what he accepts as the right thing, lgbt people always want to be respected but you can't respect a religion of someone just cause you don't agree, nobody have to accept you, and that's just how life is, there's so many people u don't like also and there will be so many people that won't like you

If you wear makeup than you're doing the same thing, right? Essentially? Making yourself look better than you really are? Same deal with hair styling and conditioner and various skin creams. This is the same as that - no worse than wearing makeup, and but nobody sees wearing makeup as problematic because everyone does it, it's normalised. This is just a different method that western people are not used to. And by the way, the 'white' skin thing in Korea comes from a completely different circumstance and history to the traditional western 'racist against people with black skin' thing. The western 'white skin' thing and the Korean 'white skin' thing are not related at all.

@@na-xw8rt You are relating this to western culture and western racism. The Korean wish to look paler has nothing to do with western racism between black and white people. Absolutely nothing!! Aw im so glad u did this. I dated a girl from corea when i was in my late teens. Dating me she was only around black americans n first gen west african Americans. They loved her and she loved them. I asked her what her first impressions were bc in america, a lot of ppl r shy around black folks out of fear. But she said she was shy… but not for the same reasons. She said black ppls perception in corea is that they are cool, ladies men, etc. So it was more starstruck type ish. And that was the first time I heard of a perception of black ppl being widely positive. Ur friends echoing that is so on point. I get the clear skin thing being the main thing. But i do think pale is a positive factor as well. BUT pale has only been popping in corea for like a decade. In the 90s and 00s they were all tan. Like Brazilian type skin. But they still liked it clear. So the pale thing is i think just the beauty standards evolving like anywhere else in the world. When i visit corea i see plenty of tan ppl and ppl married to african immigrants, etc. I think the bottom line is the clear skin/healthy/taking care of yourself. I DO think pale got way popular at the same time. But tan skin is still a preference too. Peace.
this was interesting but i wish they were actually honest… these are things i really want to know, but you can definitely tell they were holding some things back…
Real reason a lot of Koreans prefer light skin: It’s a symbol of wealth. Back in the day, only rich people had pale skin. They could afford skin-whitening creams/makeup and could afford to stay indoors all day. They didn’t have to go outside and had umbrellas to cover themselves and protect themselves from sunlight. The poor people had dark skin because they had to be outside all day, working in the rice fields. They were subjected to the harsh sun without any protection, thus they tanned.
@@Kenzi11505 In Korea, over 99% of the population isn’t black. People born with a browner tint often bleach their skin. Like how light-skinned people tan their skin. People will never be happy wit how they look.

I never understood people who use their religion as an excuse for homophobia. No sin is greater than another, you'll keep friends who lie, cheat, steal and commit infidelity but draw the line at same gendered relationships. If you're going to pick friends and judge people based on one sin, do it for ALL sins. This is why people see Christianity as a joke these days
All sin is sin, but all sins are not equal: John 19:11 Jesus answered: Thou shouldst not have any power against me, unless it were given thee from above. Therefore, he that hath delivered me to thee, hath the greater sin. “And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come” (Matthew 12:31-32). According to Jesus, some sins are greater than others. All sins are not the same.

At the end of the day it's God that passes judgement when death comes, not Christians who preach what they say is the word of God and Jesus
Without watching the video my guess on pale skin would be that it stems from the joseon dynasty where if you were upperclass you likely had paler skin because you didnt have to work out in the fields so darker skin meant you were of lower class. Even these days you see so many examples of people showing off their wealth & status on tiktok & other social media. Kids these days may not make the same connection consciously but they've just grown up with paler skin often being seen associated with beauty. This is the same with any kind of beauty standard in any country or time period. Why are hour glass figures considered sexy? Beards? Remember when metal corsets were a thing? As a Christian as well we are taught to be accepting and loving of everyone regardless. No sin is greater then the other so if he doesn’t go around gay people because he sees it as a sin not only should he not judge because judging is a sin within it self but he should also self reflect because I’m sure he’s not perfect he probably cusses it’s clear he also judges gay people. You are just as bad. Cutting someone off or fully avoiding them because they are sinning is judging them based off that. we all have our own journey we’re on to be better Christians even he himself is. You can’t play the role of god and judge others when that directly goes against gods word. What you do in the situation instead is pray for them and show them kindness and fair treatment because you are not above anyone. We should be loving and accepting of everyone regardless. If you were to cut off and not talk to any sinner you’d be left with no one on earth. So cutting a person off because they are gay is not only hypocritical but contradicting as well. I hope he learns from this and reads up on what being a Christian truly is because he’s directly thinking and acting against it but uses it as a justification to act that way.
I think that people like him have no awareness about history or the realities of the world, they need to take time to educate themselves, because if their opinion or beliefs are to judge, degrade or murder others for their identity or personal differences that is an issue between them and their God. There is a reason why states worldwide separate from the church. Thank God for the strength he gave to people who at some point decided that they had enough abuse and mistreatment. Thank God for civil movements and revolutions, because thanks to those acts today Human Rights exist. Which they also enjoy and protect equally. John 8:7 But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”. Yet Jesus also said, “I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another” (John 13:34).
The Bible does not say judging is a sin it’s says to judge righteously and there is a difference between sinning and knowing it’s wrong and changing and embracing your sin like the lgbtq community does
@@melvinakamara7732 “Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly” (John 7:24).” These people are still capable of being prayed for and loved unconditionally. U disregarded everything I said. Every human being is a sinner. No sin is greater than the other. So if you are judging someone for sinning but also sinning yourself that’s indeed not judging correctly because that is hypocritical and contradicting. Jesus didn't teach against judging. He taught against a specific kind of judging. The type of judging he spoke against was a blind, ignorant, hypocritical, self-righteous judging that overlooks one's own faults, failures and sins and only sees faults, failures and sins in other people. And that’s what I was talking about in my comment.
If S. Koreans discriminate South East Asians for being darker, then we know the real reason. It’s colorism. They connote “being pale” as being “better or more beautiful”. In reality it makes little difference but their society still has discriminatory values. Also I hear they like black people from western countries not really other black people from anywhere else. But that like still doesn’t exclude hidden racism.
The guy in the middle does most of the talking and it’s funny that the girl covered her mouth when speaking about gay ppl and did he actually say it’s illegal for gay ppl to marry. No wonder some ppl don’t say anything or want to hang out with them. And the part about people’s skin, most ppl in all countries would like a person more will clearer skin. Obviously this is not only in Korea
My bro in the middle keeping it real lol. Don't hate on him guys, he's te product of his society just like any of us. You accept gays not bc you're better people than him but bc it's accepted in your country now. If it was just 20 years ago most of you would say the same thing as him. Plus he's a christian and it's forbiden in the bible. Just appreciate the honesty and move on.
not agreeing with someone else's way of life but still remianung cordial is one thing but discrimination is a no go for me in terms of the pale skin thing have your preference for lighter skin thats a whatever sandwich but again dont mistreat those with darker skin
I'm a bit shocked they are not exploring these things honestly. There is still a lot of bias against people of color - ironically. I think it is true, largely due to the co-opting of hip-hop, that the younger generations are less racist, but there are still racist young Koreans and there are still a lot of older racist Koreans. Dark skin is associated with manual labor, which is looked down on; the three Ds: Dangerous, Dirty and Difficult. Some Koreans, like in many countries, look down on people in such jobs, not just foreigners doing those jobs. The racism against other Asians in those jobs in Korea is pervasive. Korean culture is changing, but has not fully changed. (And, yes, these things exist in pretty much every country to some degree or other.)
It's quite sad and disappointing how prejudiced and ignorant those guys are about gay people. Religion should never be an excuse for this, some people choose to keep the negative aspects instead of the positive ones.
It is stated in The Bible that God is against homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22 "Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin." (NLT) Leviticus 20:13 "If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense." So that is his faith and there’s no point in him being a Christian if he doesn’t believe in The Word of God. We are taught to abide by The Word and not to pick and choose what suits us.

I find the pale skin thing interesting, I recently went to Korea and all their makeup had a very narrow colour range - it was actually too dark for me(im irish) but it was too light or completely lacked any dark skin tones for my friends
This hurts as a bisexual girl... Obviously he can't just change his opinion on queer people but he could at least be respectful 😕 I have a homophobic granddad but he still loves and respects me which is fine enough for me. I'm not asking this guy to change his views because for some it's impossible and is literally what they grew up with so it's ingrained in their head, but the least you could do is to not openly show your dislike for queer people
yeah I’m Christian and that is not how a Christian person should treat the lgbtq+ community. if he considers being gay to be a sin he should judge the sin, not the person. i personally don’t think being gay is a sin, but im not the one who should decide if it is or isn’t. hope that all makes sense
@@HalleRGright! i see a lot of hypocrisy about it. people refusing to be friends with gay people yet are friends with people who engage in premarital sex, are immodest, lie, etc etc. even if you consider homosexuality a sin, why is it seen as more grave than any other sin? it’s just pure homophobia honestly
