Type of Foreigners KOREANS would like? 

My daughter went to Korean school and when they heard her speak Korean, the elders were very taken in by her. They loved working with her when it came to traditional korean inki and brush writing. The elderly women would argue with each other on who was going to be her teacher for the day. When she went in to be tested in her language skills, she thought she was a beginner but she tested as an advanced student, Where did she learn the language? She learned from dramas and she learned Hangul writing from her Tae kwon do Masters and their parents. She is a 3rd degree black belt, working on becoming a master herself.

I love the word "cute" for describing foreigners who love Korean food. 😊

Eating in Korea was interesting sometimes. Especially the older people in the restaurants smiled and watched me eating when I was happy with the food I had 😄

I lived in Seoul for a few months in 1997-1998, playing with a singer named Lee Seung Hwan. We did a tour, which was actually in Seoul except for one or two shows. I really enjoyed meeting the Korean people. I guess that would be "old" music today. I loved the food. Seung Hwan and our other hosts would take us to American restaurants at first, but we told them we always ate Korean food when we were out on our own, they started to take us to Korean restaurants that they liked. I think it is exactly as you said--that they were afraid we would not like Korean food. But most Americans from larger cities are familiar with all types of Asian food, and enjoy eating the authentic versions when traveling!! Good luck with your channel.

You nailed it. My husband and I were in South Korea in November. We had a private tour, so it was just us and a guide. We just happened to visit a small town having a festival and were encouraged to dress in hanbok. My husband ended up dressed as a general. We were the only non-Koreans there and people were extremely welcoming. We only ate at Korean restaurants where the guide ordered for us. We tried everything. On a boat trip around Jeju Island a Korean woman came up to us and asked for my camera, so she could take a picture of us. She did a great job. Two weeks after leaving South Korean my husband had a massive heart attack and died instantly. It was a traumatic event as I did CPR, trying to save him while the paramedics were on their way. While looking for a picture for the funeral service I came across the picture the woman had taken. It showed my husband as I will always remember him. He had loved our trip and was making plans to go back to see the cherry trees in bloom, and try other Korean food. The photo video of his life included many pictures of him taken in South Korea.

Dan, I think you shared a lot of great tips for people not just visiting Korea but interacting with Korean-Americans in the USA. I have been married to a beautiful Korean lady for 48 years and even lived in Korea for 5 years. I enjoy good Gugak (Song So-hee in particular) and Trot music. While I can't eat the strong spicy food there is plenty I like. Before I ever went to Korea for the first time I studied the history and traditions and also the concepts and ideas of Confucianism because I was informed that if you understand that I would understand much about Korean society.

I am 67 and will probably never have the chance to go to Korea, but for the last five years or so I've been a big fan of K-Drama and would love to see all things Korean. I especially like the way most parts of an animal are used in Korean food, it's both sensible and respectful to the animal. I would love to try it but I'm a long way from a Korean restaurant. I love the courtesy and respect shown to each other. I think I appreciate it more because I'm an older Londoner, though London has never really been known for manners. ;¬) I'm gradually learning as much Korean through K-Drama and singing along to Korean music, as I can, and surprise my family sometimes with Korean words and sentences, and music playing in my car. It's a lot of fun and might even help keep my brain a little younger for a while. :¬) Dan I really like your videos and find them entertaining and helpful so I hope you will keep making them for a long long time. Danny, you are an amazing person. I've recently gotten hooked onto K-Dramas and Chinese dramas. I have many Korean friends here in California who've shared their favorite local dishes with me that I've grown to love. I'm Hawaiian, Chinese and Portuguese. Being from Hawai'i, I grew up eating all types of Kimchi and can't get enough of it. This segment is my first introduction to your channel. I believe that everyone should respect and honor people of all cultures, especially our elders. I've learned many basic words and phrases, and my friends enjoy me using them. New to your channel! Congrats on the 100k subscribers! I think 1) respecting your elders and 2) respecting the culture of the country you're visiting should be common courtesy. I'd love to try some Korean food when I visit, but as much as I like a little spice, I can't handle the real spicy food. I love Korea, when I watch any historical dramas of the Joseon Dynasty or early 1920s-1930s, I always research later because I want to understand how much of the drama was based on true historical facts and this way I learn more about the history of your country. I love learning about other cultures, languages and food and comparing to see the similarities as well as the differences in our cultures.

Hi Dan, thank you so much for the videos. You inspired me to visit Incheon a few weeks ago where some lovely things happened. I went to have lunch near Jayu Park and was enjoying a hangover soup in a restaurant. Halfway through my meal, an Ajumma, who I hadn't spoken to at all, decided to pay for my lunch! Now that I've seen your video (1st point) I think I know why she paid for my meal. The other nice thing was when I was looking at the Tri-bowl, another Ajumma who worked at the Tourist centre started chatting and she took me out for dinner too! Good to see you posting more. I was there in 2017 and was already in to Korean culture. I was there to see the historical places first. Those I spoketo where very impressed of my knowledge and being in awe of the historical places. It really s incredible being in places you see in historical dramas. Knowing its been around for hundreds of years. Love kpop but still cant get into the older music though!

I agree; taking the time to research and understand the culture and people does help, as well as learning simple words and phrases. Korea is such a beautiful country, and I'm thankful I was able to experience it firsthand six months ago. Everyone I met while I was there was kind and helpful. I felt safe everywhere I went especially since I took a solo trip. However, I will admit two weeks is definitely not long enough to visit, so my next planned trip will be longer. This was a beautiful video! I have such affection for Korea and Koreans. All these little tips made me feel as though I was given permission to feel the way I do! During a time when love and admiration of another culture can be considered cultural appropriation and angrily looked down upon, it’s heartwarming to know that many Koreans understand and may even approve of foreigners who have great respect and adoration for their culture, and feel blessed to be able to take part in some of their traditions, foods and language. I think it’s another way of spreading the love!

Thank you for this video. I started taking Korean language classes about six months ago. I've got a long way to go before I can comfortably hold a back and forth conversation. But it's comforting to hear that most Koreans would appreciate the effort. I studied French in highschool and college. But when I took a trip to France about ten years ago, most Parisians refused to speak French back to me when they figured out I was American (when I was translating information to English for my traveling companion). I'm not fluent, but I know enough to get around as a tourist. And my reading comprehension is decent. People outside of the cities were a lot nicer and complimented me. Still, it kind of soured my experience after I had made so much effort to be a respectful tourist.
