I am turned 50 this year. I was born and raised in a chawl in Mumbai. No toilet, no running water. 70s and 80s was a tough growing up. Lot of my friends got into petty crime because of lack of employment. I became an engg in the 90s and realized that I had to get out of India. Came to US in mid 90s. I was the first person to get a student loan for studies abroad at our local bank in Mumbai! It’s been more than 25 years. Networth is almost 130 Cr plus. I am semi retired. My parents don’t like America, so I go back and forth between Mumbai and SF. Have couple of plush apts in Mumbai and a huge house in Silicon Valley. Life is good! Based on my experience here is my advice. This follow your passion and all is bogus. If your passion is acting there is very good chance you will end up broke. Not everyone can be a Nawazuddin! Find what you are really good that has high employability in the market. It could be engineering, accounting, taxes etc and try to excel at it. Stay away from acting, cricket, fashion etc, those are good hobbies but the success rate/employability is very low. Once you get to a certain level start your own business in your chosen field. There is a very high chance you will end up being extremely wealthy.

I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks and made about $246k,but guess what? I put it all back and traded again and now I am rounding up close to a million
