I think one of the problems here is that a lot of "editors" were assuming they were the production manager or DP as well on the project. It's one thing to "edit" a wedding video, it's another to be out in the field capturing the footage. Those are different jobs obviously. I think that should've been made more clear.

One of the main things I saw that influenced price is the different mindsets of the creators. Some were taking the pricing as if they were going to one man band it. Others were factoring in working with a team. No wonder pricing was everywhere cuz everyone's experience level and workflows were different.

The perfect example for pricing is i got a serious complaint from a client a few weeks ago, he saw me filming a commercial shoot with a full crew, he complained to why i dont do that for him, i just showed him the expenses for the shoot and told him my profit/compensation still has to come ontop of that, he never said a thing again about wanting something more😂

@pixelasm
@pixelasm 2 года назад
@@tomarnold7284 yes makes total sense to start with showing examples and put numbers on them so that a client can better gauge how much people, efforts and money went into production. Most often people do not have a clue about timings as well. Just a lack of knowledge leads to clients asking for results not feasible within their budget expectation. Most often though changes to the scope can be made to adapt to the budget and still have a pleasing result for the client or use the gained knowledge as leverage to renegotiate / increase the budget.
@tomarnold7284
@tomarnold7284 2 года назад

For standard quality of freelance work, 4x minimum wage for anyone involved in preproduction, production and postproduction, plus expenses, billed hourly with a 6h minimum. Professionals and clients are OK with 4x for freelance work in any profession. Lower than 3x may point to low quality work and very few people are worth more than 5x. You dont even have to ask.

My answer to those questions would have been a series of questions. The 30 minute documentary, for example. Was the footage professionally shot and logged? That question alone is the difference between $500 per minute and $5K per minute video. Memories of long nights logging and capturing hours of tape on a project I quoted way too little for still haunt this old brain of mine.

My main business is not in video editing, but I do that anyways for my business marketing. It takes me about 6 hours or so per minute of footage. I do a lot of fancy transitions and make sure that the B roll tells the same story as I am speaking in the video, and adds to it if possible. I make about 8 minute videos. Most of the people on Fiverr ask for about 100-150 to replicate my work (non-Americans). If I was to ask an American to do, I wouldn't pay more than $500.

The guys in the video are probably a bit more experienced, seeing that you are just starting out, make your network and clientele robust. Usually don’t recommend working for free, but maybe you can create a package with real estate agents where you attract them by saying the first video will be free. Always try to get as many projects as you can with each and every client. In real estate, best part is you can accumulate different houses into different videos.
@Olufemii
@Olufemii 2 года назад
Good question! I used to do my first project in a new industry for free, just to practice and build my portfolio. If you have adequate experience in video production though, charge them maybe $2k. Now if they are a real estate agent (as opposed to a broker) and if it’s a lower priced listing, it may be harder to get a good rate. I’ve used to have issues negotiating good rates with agents. Best advice is to maybe approach the home building company for the best rates when it comes to shooting homes.

There is a huge company by the name of realty connect USA. They have hundreds of realtors listed under their brand and the realtors hire a lot of videographers and video editors. You can find email and phone number of all realtors on their website and then pitch to them. Best part is, if your work is good, the video will spread around and other realtors will start hiring you. I did video editing for them and they pay good.

Mannn ppl won't pay $300 for a music in the area where I'm at. So most of my clients are out of town clients. I just be amazed like "how you want to be a rapper but you dnt invest in yourself"?
