@@cleverman383 I know daggerfall only from yt videos and have played morrowind as briefly as skyrim (not in my type). But where is that line of difference that makes rpg of morrowind yet denies it for skyrim? In my opinion none of those game are rpg. Those are action games with light touch of rpg mechanics.
This hurts me, simply because I'm that Morrowind player, but not just that Morrowind player, but the one who played it as a kid, never got past Balmora, forgot about it after Oblivion came out, remembered it after having beaten Skyrim six times, and then went back and beat it for the first time with a broken magic archer build. Morrowind is my favorite by the way.
I screwed around and still had a blast. It was only years later (post-Oblivion, pre-Skyrim) that I went back and actually did the story. Screwing about was far more fun tbh and it is a time-honored TES tradition that I have done ever since
Same story with New Vegas for me. I never came even close to finishing it for years despite numerous restarts because somewhere along the way I did the wrong thing, and without the DLC. Then I bought the four story DLCs and finished it in a 2 month binge. I've been trying to start on Morrowind but I just have the console version, which I've been told is worse than just not playing it due to bugs. I'll probably download it on steam later though.

In balmora, go find the merchant on the north side (?) that sells a paralyzing sword/short sword. Grab a demon tanto, maybe go to a daedric altar and steal something, kill the guy that spawns, see if you can snag yourself early daedric weapons. Works a treat but it's a little... rigged in your favor. Also if you manage to get lvl 101+ enchanting, enchanted items cost almost nothing to use, so you can make a belt of death.
Oblivion was my first TES, idk but the way everything writing/characters/art direction/soundtrack comes together will likely keep it as my favourite TES too......until Skyblivion releases!
I'll boot it up every few weeks, forget what quest I'm working on and just kinda wander around balmora until someone gets a reason to kill me, still pretty fun tho.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of older games like Morrowind. But the combat in that game feels like trying to fight someone in a dream, like punching smoke.
@@schigeraXD I wish they'd allow it on console like they have for Skyrim and Fallout 4. I can imagine the fun I'd have moding the shit out of Oblivion and New Vegas on Xbox.
Like someone else said use your weapons that are high skilled. Don't use a weapon for a level 5 skill you will alot. But a weapon for a level 35 weapon skill you won't miss as much but level it up and you will hit a lot more. You have to go train your skills up. Mainly work on your major and minor skills, get stronger then go level up other skills but training with gold or practice on something really weak when you get stronger. Morrowind is where it is at. There's alot of alot of different awesome things about morrowind, like the fact that you can kill any storyline npc, you just won't beat the game until you reload an old file that has the npc still alive. That's just one thing. There more though, go out and find them! Come back and share! Have fun.
I mean I'm still missing a lot with 50+ longsword skill and agility and full fatigue, kind of awkward just watching my sword swing through a damn worm and do nothing, but that's not really that big of a deal imo its just a weird cross between old school roll based combat and the more modern elder scrolls design that doesnt really mesh well But using fatigue just to run around at more than a snail's pace is awful, since it's required to do pretty much anything, and even with it the running is awfully slow. Light armor and speeds around 70 with conjured boots up, still feelsbad and the environment isn't very nice to look at while you're crawling along(not bad for the time tbh, but environment just feels kind of desolate and empty compared to newer graphics). It makes me wish there was more fast travel options just because of how awful the running feels and bad the environment looks, whereas in skyrim or eso half the time I don't even use the fast travel because just wandering and exploring is so neat
Skyrim is a shooter game with swords, bows and spells that awkwardly tries to be an rpg Morrowind is more like a tabletop rpg simulator that awkwardly tries to be in realtime & first person I Love em both
I agree. They both have their place (though Morrowind's better! :P). Oblivion on the other hand... It was a massive downgrade from Morrowind and a prototype of Skyrim. It had it's moments, but overall it is a total Red-Headed Stepchild.
Skyrim is more an RPG than Morrowank ever was. The sad part is you actually believe that it isnt simply because you're a giant baby who wont stop crying about not getting sucked off by a dark elf
@@victorkreig6089 Lol. Why have to choose a role to play in an RPG when you can play them all simultaneously from the very beginning and are handheld through the whole experience, right? Doesn't sound very much like roleplaying but it does very much sound like modern gaming. I'm glad you enjoyed the uh...the cool sword swinging you can do with 2 hands I guess? Those cutscene animation kills sure did look impressive. Didn't do much to support my roleplaying experience though. Of course, after modding the shit out of Skyrim to have skill systems, HUD, and inventory more akin to its predecessors it was a very fun game for a few hours. Looks pretty compared to older ones I guess. Not being able to kill essential NPCs though? Heavily restricts my ability to roleplay in a roleplaying game.

I think a lot of people who play Morrowind for the first time have issues with swinging and missing. Here are some tips. 1. Make sure you sink a decent amount of skill points into a particular weapon type in the beginning and use weapons from that weapon type. 2. MAKE SURE YOUR STAMINA METER IS AS FULL AS POSSIBLE. That little green meter is the gatekeeper to how much fun you have in the game.

Eh, Dragon Age 2 /Inquisition players maybe. Dragon Age Origins was fantastic and honestly the last game ever to have that distinct old Bioware feel. It's such a travesty what happened to that series, heck, what happened to Bioware. It's just a name now. We have lots of new releases for skyrim but only this weird 2021 makes a 20th anniversary edition of morrowind not entirely a grand and intoxicating innocence
Great video, funny idea. Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim. There is so much to experience and explore that in all 3 games I never got more than half way through the main quest line. I still play Skyrim a lot and I love it. Oblivion was such a beautiful world compared to the older games. But I still catch myself dreaming about something in Morrowind or creating something in the Construction Set. I was 34 when it came out and I played it for 20.000+ hours. Morrowind is still my favourite, despite its combat system and the "old" graphics. Morrowind took the concept of "freedom" in the gameplay to a level the next two games couldn't quite compete with (although they did well).
You're one of the few people on youtube that make good videos consistently that also keeps up with good tasteful memes + you're making Elder Scrolls content which I love. You deserve all the views you're getting
I was a Morrowind player and the the thing about the new gen is that they find it difficult to navigate with the map we had to put up when we played. We would get vague details about the places we would need to visit, even if you get there you'd miss the caves and whatnot if don't pay attention. Man I love morrowind. It gives me a sense of Reality when we had to navigate and couldn't Mark the places in the map. You'd feel like an archeologist at times with how you'd explore the map. Edit: Just remembered there were a lot of Cliffracers as well. Everytime you'd try to get to another place, you'd encounter like 5-6 Cliffracers.
Imagine having to practice to learn a spell to be able to cast it and not have it fail in a real fight so you don't die. Now imagine being given a shout that instantly kills anyone without any effort. That's the difference between Morrowind and Skyrim.
More so the; Whatever build you make, here is a magicka pool and starting spell. (Won't gripe about heal though.) On the flip side, Skyrim is the only game I've been locked in convo with someone over the disbelief of dragons just in time for an Ancient one to swoop down and napalm us both. At least that death bore witness to his panicked disbelief of sudden immolation. So much for inquiring about the price of a horse.
The factions, the lore, the realm, skills, abilities in Morrowind, oh mam. Skyrim has brought alot to the table but didn't even touch where Morrowind groped me
I feel like us Morrowind loving grandpas get thrown in the nursing home by Skybabies. I miss the depth, size, scope, and slight edgy, outlandish environment. 😥
I always hear people talking about the depth, size, and scope of morrowind, but people always love to ignore the places in skyrim where there's a lot of hidden depth, size, and scope. I think the main problem is that people play skyrim as if it can only be played in a shallow manner. If you stop using the map markers and fast travel, take your time to talk to the npcs, and carefully observe your surroundings, you'll find a lot of morrowind in skyrim.
@@redeye4516 "Can't just throw the big logs on the fire. I mean, tbh this is why I'm waiting for skywind, I love the story of morrowind and back in the early 2000s I played the everloving shit out of it but, these days the combat mechanics just annoy me. @@louthinator Morrowind's combat exists in a strange limbo. On one hand it makes perfect sense because it's an RPG, but at the same time it's in real time and you still have to aim your hits towards the enemies and such. @@Assimandeli which is why I'm hoping they improve on it even further in TES6, make it something like assassins creed odyssey or something similar. There are definitely ways of pulling off this kind of combat in the creation engine too just look up the "true directional movement" and "ultimate dodge" mods, even with no other mod in the game (though I certainly recommend throwing wildcat into the mix) that combination breathes so much new life into the skyrim combat system.

I remember my first playthrough on morrowind, was so confusing to swing 10 times clearly touching the enemy but none of them ever made any damage. Then i died by a thief with one single hit.
with morrowind you get a sense of exploration, nothing has waypoints, you ahve to figure that out by reading the journal and getting directions. These things made the follow up games much less engaging to play since everything was GPS'd
This is awesome! I'm still on my first playthrough, but I've put so many hours into it. I love exploring and doing side quests, so the main quest has been taking a back seat big time
I've got 1000+ hours on Skyrim. A few weeks ago I bought Morrowind and I started wandering around. My first enemy was a worm-like thing, after probably 60 hits, 3 of which I think actually hit it, it killed me... I returned to Skyrim shortly after
"attack" isn't really something that's in oblivion or skyrim, I did the same thing with a thief in a cave right next to the start town. Might be helpful to jack up that attack stat first before dmg or hp
Keep in mind your fatigue also effects your accuracy. If your fatigue bar is out, you are tired and effects your swings. Always be sure to keep it full before battles. Quick rest will be helpful also potions you find around. The other very important thing is your weapon skill. Make sure you are using the right weapons to match your highest weapon skill. Higher the level the better your hit rates as you work into mastering the weapon and becoming the ultimate weapon of mass destruction. Or you could just loot and search crates and stuff for items and then sell them for coins and then just pay to have your weapon skill increased through training. The choice is yours how you want to play.

Low damage and high stamina consumption would have been better for immersion, rather than missing when you clearly hit. The combat in morrowind is crap for the first 20 hours honestly but gets better onwards.
I seriously tried multiple times, but a lot of the outdated mechanics ruin it for me. That and the directions the NPCs give for quests. Many times I had to look up the quest destination due to being unable to find it.
Not being able to follow the simple instructions they give you is almost embarrassing. It doesn't get much more complex than "go east from X, when you reach Y, go north"
@@BimpytheWimpyShrimpy Only like 4 Quests have crappy directions. Like finding the Telvanni wizard in Gnis or killing that vampire for one of the Ashlander clans.

I absolutely love Morrowind, and I laugh hard every time someone complains about missing when they don't use a weapon they have the skill to use. It's my fav TES. But I have to agree with the complaint about the directions wholeheartedly. "go north until you see the big rock, go north-northwest until you see a river then go east". WHICH ROCK? HOW BIG IS BIG?
