My female fantail is super picky and does not like any of the treats I’ve tried giving her (thawed out peas, dry corn, plain peanuts, a few specific seeds) she only really eats her feed and even then she’s not particularly eager to do so. This has made trying to bond, socialise and even train her next to impossible as far as I’m aware. All pigeon advice I seek out just says “give them treats!” In regards to getting them to warm up to you etc. My question is, are there any other ways to get my girl to warm up to me, other than treats? Or is it a case of continuing to wait and hope for the best?

Hey silly question perhaps. Ill first say I live in the city limits. I was wondering if I took care of feral pigeons in my area; could I harvest their eggs.

I have a pigeon egg in my quail incubator. I hope it’s fertile

And who will take care of the chick when it hatches?

So if I get a hen, I shouldn't provide a nest? I've heard that if you don't provide one, pigeons usually just make their own wherever they can.

I have a hen, when I expected (and paid for) a male, and honestly if you’re looking to have a singular pet pigeon, I’d recommend getting a male- removes that risk egg-production wise, hens also get super moody and aggressive when they do have eggs to sit on, which makes cleaning out their habitat, feeding, etc. very difficult to do. I very much love my hen but I do wish the breeder had given us the male we had asked for in the first place, the anxiety every time she’s close to laying is a lot for me and even my fiancé to deal with. Aside from that, if you are dead set on a hen, I found for mine it is just better to give her a nest box- but that’s because she’s particularly stubborn and still layed twice without one. It’s just a lot…. Messier without one. However their personalities and preferences differ so widely especially for fancy pigeons it is probably something you’d just have to test out!

@@arwen8964 That helps some. I'm still doing research into everything, so it's good to know anything I can.

@@johntheslider5802 oh and another thing i forgot to mention is the nesting poops, which is what i refer to when i say “messy”, when doing my own research i couldnt find a thing online talking about this and had to figure it out the hard way, so i’ll tell you now in case you also don’t know. When hens are sitting on their eggs they’ll hold in their poops for a day of two (and we all know how much pigeons poop, that’s a lot) and will release this poop once a day or two. This poop is not normal poop. It stinks out the entire room, it’s brown and liquified, it comes out with so much force it has gone up my walls before, and the noise it makes coming out it’s this horrible wet fart noise that makes my skin crawl. If you decide to get a hen, make sure her home is in a well ventilated area and you cover the nearest walls (i use cardboard right now) They also won’t poop in their nesting box (hence the “less messy” comment). i hope this helps, good luck friend :))

Does Ana lay eggs regularly? And how do you handle her/the eggs when she does? I would really like to adopt a pigeon in the next year and thought I might like a female pigeon over a male pigeon, but I’m not entirely sure how to handle eggs and egg sitting!

Hi, Ana has only laid 1 egg in the time we have had her as she does not have a mate. She has a female companion, but they are not a pair. I hope to cover nesting and breeding in a future episode of my pets series which I hope to finish this year :-)

@@thecrazypigeonlady8731 thank you for your response! I was under the impression that even single ladies will continue to regularly lay eggs, even without a mate, so it’s good to know that might not be the norm! I absolutely adore your videos and can’t wait to see the rest of this series!
