Hello! You know the famous saying “...but coffee first”? I put my own spin on it: “I love coffee, but water first”. This will be a more personal vlog, sharing some of my experiences with health. Just a warning, this vlog might go off on a few tangents as I share my stories. I also want to give a clear disclaimer, I don’t recommend that you copy my process, my story is just intended to give inspiration. Instead, I encourage self-reflection for you to decide what’s best for your own health.
First, I wanted to show my iWatch progress www.apple.com/... from June last year. See these rings? For those of you who aren’t familiar with the iWatch, these track three things. The first is the move ring, which makes sure you’re being active and burning a minimum of 360 calories. The second is the exercise ring, which is making sure you get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes. Third is the stand ring, which makes sure you’re standing up for at least one minute per hour. When all three of these rings are filled, it means your goal is completed for the day.
I wanted to share about this because last June, I challenged myself to complete this goal. I tolerated the work and had to push myself to get through it. That raised a big question for me, and showed me that I needed to improve somehow. This thinking brought me back to a movie I’d seen, ‘The Secret’, www.thesecret.tv/ and there is also a book. 10 or 11 years ago, I had a realization after watching the movie, when one specific part stuck out to me: A, B, R, or Ask, Believe, Receive. How do these three apply to my health? The first, ask, is obvious: my watch lets me know about my activity and this makes me ask the question, how can I make this process better? I believe that I can get through the process. At the third part, receive, I wondered how can I receive? It was really important for me to investigate and find the problem. I knew there was a problem, but I couldn’t see what it was.
I decided to be open minded and see who was out there that was proficient in health. I looked to social media and found many Deaf individuals who were proficient in and had careers in health. I have to admit, I was overwhelmed, and wanted to narrow it down to people whose philosophies I enjoyed. It was important to me to find someone I could easily connect to. I followed one person on Instagram and decided to at least try some basics, and felt good. This was Blue Organic Kitchen blueorganickit.... I decided to connect with them since I enjoyed their philosophy. I couldn’t say the same for their competitors. I’m glad there are many Deaf coaches out there, with specifics to fit you as an individual, but I chose them for me specifically.
Past May, I dove into their three-week OSP program and learned a lot. One important philosophy that I strongly agree with is deciding whether to value your weight or taking care of your internal health first. I chose to take care of my internal health first, making sure that I’m cleaning up and that I’m good. Coming back to the watch, we can see the results. I feel much different. In June 2021, I felt like I had to work much harder compared to June this year. Because my internal health was uplifted, I felt like I could progress much faster and easier.
So, I encourage any of you who are struggling or dealing with stress to find that philosophy that fits you and it will help you move along easier. Tomorrow might be complicated, but investing in yourself today will help guide you to a better future.
