Thank you very much dear. We've been looking for this other than on the Youngson compilation. Turpin is one of the most under-rated silent screen stars, not just the eyes but the movement and body language, a bit like James Finlayson. This is what you call original comedy. Great ideas, imagination and performance. The drinking scenes remind me of my hubby. Cameo the dog is great, too! Most grateful.
Hi Dave. I'm surprised I haven't commented on this Turpin clip. I love all Ben's PatheComedies of 1923-27 and this is a particular favorite. Come to think of it, almost all of them survive complete or incomplete excepting Ben's first two releases, "Where's My Wandering Boy This Evening?" and "Pitfalls of a Big City." Still hoping someone will someday put out a Turpin DVD retrospective. On this particular film, I couldn't help but notice (for the first time) the big trunk Ben's lifting, at the films start, has the name of F. W. Jackman, Sennett's cameraman. Few years ago this film was up for auction at eBay and I suspect it was Serge Bromberg who out-bid me! DRAT! Stay well, Dave, and THANKS for posting!
