Asmongold Plays FORSPOKEN for the First Time 

It's when judge Judy would say "I love it" and then sentence her. This game is fanfic and poorly written, good voice acting tough.

I mean nothing about the court scene was accurate from a legal perspective, not would I expect legal realism from a videogame (unless it was like...a lawyer game). Do you want the game to go through a realistic arraignment and court case? People already complain that the game takes too long to get the story rolling, you want it to take even longer?

2 hours into the game, we've seen over a dozen male characters, but only ONE has had a speaking part, and he was the paranoid bad guy councilman. The MC and every other character with even a single line of dialogue - except the annoyingly named 'cuff', who is an inanimate object - is female! I guess the guardsmen technically had a line or two, but they were just more negativity. The MC is incredibly annoying, not empathetic, like, at ALL - she's a career criminal who's bad deeds are coming home to roost. Her house burns down, she sees something shiny, and what's her first thought? 'Let's STEAL THAT SHIT!' So, every character important to the story is female or an inanimate object, except the 2 or 3 male characters who are memes of bad guy characters... The writing is pretty cringey - its not as terrible as some people have claimed, but it sure isn't good. The combat is ok, but whoever designed that fight with the dragon deserves to be kicked in the crotch... HARD! Too many particle effects to see a thing completely ruined what might have been an entertaining fight! I had already decided to wait for a Steam Summer sale in 2024 when I can get it 70%+ off, but after watching this, I'm not sure I'll even do THAT!

I still think a shining example of a strong female protagonist in a game is Estelle from Trails in the Sky. AAA writers aiming for a "strong female lead" wish they could approach that writing.

Maybe because how she was born, who her mother is/was, being abandoned for her entire life, even the person tasked with watching over her didn't really want be there. So yeah, maybe she doesn't give 2 craps about saving a world she doesn't belong to. Literally the same blueprint as Frey. People "hate" a game sooo much, they click every video on it and say they'll STILL PLAY IT. (if there's a discount) just plain weird.

Personally I first realised I prefer a silent protagonist when Fallout 4 came out. That's when it hit me that I kinda can't get immersed in a RPG unless I imagine the character I'm playing is me but in that world, and I can't do that when my character clearly and obviously isn't me. Similar thing with backstory. They gave the guy in FO4 a very obvious, in-your-face backstory. He's a law abiding good guy, a family man, a military man, and his most important motivation in life is finding his lost baby... so how the fuck do I square that when I want to play a game as a junkie thief who sneaks around the wasteland shanking people in their sleep and robbing them to pay for drugs and iguana on a stick?

Its like whoever wrote this dialogue decided to make every word out of the MC's mouth as unlikable and annoying as they could! The Cuff is a bit cringey, but not nearly as bad as Frey.

@@DC-hw7fw In this world not only does she not have to take responsibility for her actions, she is rewarded and praised when she does or says horrible things. Someone who was supposed to be her friend had her dad die and instead of supporting her when she's on the edge of breaking down Fre instead gets angry and tells her how lucky she was to ever even had a dad and went on fuming about never having a family as if it's was a competition...then the story just moves on with no social ramifications as if she had actually said the right thing.

Even then her cat avoided her for like 10 minutes when she came home. Most cats are at the door when you arrive, begging for attention. Hers was like, "No rush. She's annoying."

Not at all. If you got transported back to, say, Victorian times, there are things you'd be able to communicate clearly about and be understood, and then there'd be things where they'd just have no idea what you were talking about. I think they did a pretty good job of making it believable in terms of which things are understood and which ones aren't.

this only happens in the tutorial. 90% of open world games are linear in the tutorial and dont let you stray from the path. game is cringy shit, but straying from the path in the tutorial is not its problem

The only thing about this I kind of like is how she used literal pocket sand against the thugs in the beginning. That would actually make for a decent self defense tool the more I think about it.

Dante from Devil May Cry is like that. Except he's entertaining. The issue with this game's dialogue and character is nothing except that is just lame. A million characters just like her that see loved. But they aren't lame. It's like Archer with a bad writer.

Honestly. I don't mind that moment too much. Yeah them taking the time to write it backwards is a bit much but they probably managed to see her get into her apartment and knew that was the way she would leave. Buuuuut I also agree that it didn't need to be in there cause it was an easy connection to the gang.

It’s funny because the Luminous engine (which Forspoken was built from) wasn’t even designed to be a gaming engine. It’s purpose was originally supposed to be for enhancing cinematic cutscenes. Square-Enix basically told Luminous “Make the next Final Fantasy game out of your non-gaming engine.”

For example Wheatley and Glados, or Weiss and Nier have the exact same snark + straightman dialogue but nobody complained because both were before the MCU became America's only movie series.

Human designs, while truly breathtaking in many cases such as French or Italian cathedrals or castles, don't usually have as much pure grand decor as some Elden Ring castles do. Architecture wise though, they're damn similar.

@@russpc9739 You just said western devs and japanese devs. Usually, even. What I'm used to from western devs, at least the high budget ones, is pretty much on par with this. Japanese games tend to be pretty good for writing. Case in point: the writing team for Forspoken was western. In fact, even for SE, writing is usually one of their strong suits, though they have definitely had their blunders as well.
