They tried to get my 73 year-old mom with this type of scam. Luckily, she caught on before it was too late. The youtubers (and there are several of them) that go after these scammers are saints.

Sad that they don't go after the corpos for exploitation and foreign lobbying to have zero labor laws in India with the same energy. Only if these corpos paid fair wage, the call center problem wouldn't exist. Rockstar, a multi-billion dollar gaming company pays all it's QA testers in India the "fair market value wage" of 3k USD a year and apparently this is supposed to be "more than the market value". So ofcourse they're gonna pivot to something like joining a scamming call center in order to be able to afford a house in their lifetimes and actually put some food on the table for themselves.

No offense, but hopefully they didn't take your word for it. We are not responsible for any fraudulent charges. They can't break in to a bank, and steal your money. They can only steal the bank's money. No matter what the circumstances are, if money is fraudulently taken from your account, banks have to immediately return the money to you, and THEN investigate. They can't wait. They can't say you did it. They can't do any of that. They have to give the money back immediately. Now, if you did have a part in it, you of course would be prosecuted. But the burden is on THEM, to pay fraud, not you.

I remember running into my Grandma's room diving at her phone because she was half-way done reading her SSN to a scammer. I remember she got a call once too, the scammer claimed to be my brother, had all his information, and was telling my Grandma he (pretending to be my brother) was in a car accident in New Mexico and needed money for medical expenses. It was fortunate I was there to stop all of it, but these scammers are serious pieces of shit. Whenever my Grandma gets a call, she can't tell if it's a scammer or a real call about her doctor appointments or insurance, etc. I hate that these scammer target the elderly. It's good to see that some scammers are getting karma and much love to those who are fighting them.

My grandpa gets these scam calls all the time, but he's smart enough to never fall for them. If anything, when he's bored, he will answer and just mess with them to see how long they will stay on the line. It's usually not long. Per example: He gets A LOT of Amazon scam calls. While I've ordered things on Amazon for him (send it to his house), he doesn't have an Amazon account so he knows it's an instant scam. Many times he will say to them "I'm having trouble hearing you as I have 2 hearing aids. Can you speak louder and in English so I can understand you better?" Most times, they hang up right here. One scam call was somebody trying to sell him Viagra. Yeah, he loved messing with them. Grandpa: "You want to sell me Viagra? What's that for?" (He knew just wanted them to say it) Scammer: "Well it's for sex." Grandpa: "Well, I'm a widower and so I won't need any Viagra, unless you're going to come and give me some sex." * They hang up * I think over the years, the spam calls have decreased. My guess he's annoyed many of them that they removed him from their call list as they know he will never fall for it. (Edit: Had to fix the line breaks since RU-vid screwed them up and put A LOT of extra lines.)

Me and my friends who worked in the IT sector quite close to these offices had often tipped the authorities about such practices. Like the video said, the police basically knows what's going on. when I was in the military, a friend of mine came to work one day telling me about a part-time job he had gotten. This guy didn’t seem like a particular dumb guy, but after asking him some questions it was obvious that he was involved in a check cashing scam. When I told him, he thought I was wrong. I took him to a computer and pulled up a web page that described the scam he was involved with and finally was able to talk some sense into him.

Good for you and your friend. Though, what kind of scam is check cashing one? Check isn't used as much around here to have a scam sadly.
@XCC23
@XCC23 2 года назад
@@TempestaDominus Basically, all check cashing scams work on this principle: Your bank trusts you (to some extent), so when you come in with a check, they give you the money. They don't actually know whether the check is good yet. Will any money come? No idea, but they expect it to. Now, you've cashed your check, you've gotten the money out, and you're now supposed to send some of that money elsewhere. So maybe they send you a check for 20k, and ask you to take out 15k and send it, you keep 5k as a money handling fee. You do that, and you think that you now have 5k more than you did when you started and they have moved their money or w/e. Except those 20k that are in your account from the check? It's fake money. Once they vanish, you find that the only "real" transaction done is the part where you withdrew 15k of your money and sent it.

One time I was doing a dungeon with some people (in an MMORPG called Dofus) and something touched my foot, so I looked down and screamed because it was a pretty big scorpion, but I still had to help in the dungeon. I had moved my foot so the scorpion started walking around and I had to stop it before it went where I couldn't find it. I grabbed the nearest item (a plastic fork) and stabbed at it, pinning it to the floor. The fork wasn't IN the scorpion because it wasn't sharp, and the scorpion had a pretty strong back exoskeleton. So now I have 1 hand holding a fork on the ground, and the other hand needs to be finishing the dungeon. If I move the fork, the scorpion will run. So I'm sitting there for 45 minutes playing my game with 1 hand on the table and my other hand down towards the ground. After the dungeon was done, I finnaly.had time to think about how to fix the problem, and somehow I got the scorpion into a ziplock bag, and the next morning I took it into a store where some of the other people in the dungeon worked and showed it to them.

I'm a Westerner who's been living in India for 10 years now. I'm looking at the young people sitting in those offices and got a pretty good idea of what kind of people they are. Relatively recent grads, unmarried, from low repute colleges - the max their parents could afford to send them to. They are educated enough to qualify for a job that requires English, but their schools don't carry the names to enable them for placement in any proper decent paying company. There are plenty of such young people in India and they often end up working as store clerks in malls or even as security guards (my building's security guard has an engineering degree from a small town college). Many families put huge pressure though on their kids to get an 'office job' which is technically seen above sales clerks and security guards. Why do they put that pressure? Because they aim to marry their kids off latest by age 25 and for that your kid - regardless of gender - better be earning and placed in a 'proper job' aka 'office job'. This is how some young people end up in offices like that. What you see here are bottom-of-the-barrel folks that couldn't be placed anywhere else and with their families sitting in their necks about getting a job fast so they can marry. Doesn't make any of this shit right, of course. These companies need to be brought down. It's a joke the government turns such a blind eye to it. I'm pretty sure I know why too. India tends to have no issues whatsoever with any entity generating cash flow into the country. It's ridiculously easy to transfer money here. But god forbid you want to transfer anything out, even if it's your own money to your own foreign account. It's a huge headache. I guess if they acknowledged the problem, they fear they might actually have to reimburse people abroad. Though I'm really not sure about the legalities concerning the prosecution of international fraud. But such videos are super important, cause if there's one thing the Indian government fears it's bad international press. They are super self-conscious about their reputation, especially in front of the West. Spread that shit far and wide and tag concerning Indian government officials if possible. They won't lift a finger for justice's sake or for moral reason, but if it's about their image suddenly a lot of things can happen. About the call centers they couldn't manage to shut down despite informing the authorities... well... you know those call centers already pulled enough money to pay off the right people on a regular basis. Once you figure that, there is no point in contacting that layer or authority. You need to go one step up. But even then it can happen that whoever you contact will just go and attempt to collect 'their share' and if successful act as if nothing happened. So you'll need to continue going steps up until that guy's bribe level is above their pay grade.

Same. Lol. There is one from Tennessee that tells you that you owe three thousand dollars on a credit card from 2 yrs ago. Scary part is they had all my info. I am on disability for a chronic illness and have no credit card. I told them I knew they were scammers and they had over 500 complaints online and warning people about them. Which was true. The guy freaked out. Threatening to SA me, call me 10 times a day, said I deserved my illness. I told him Thanks I recorded what he said, I didn't. Then he tried to apologize and I hung up and blocked them. Next day new number different person. Just hung up. It's really terrible and I bet older people fell for it and paid the money. They wouldn't even tell you what credit card it was or what the charge was. I don't know how they can live with themselves.

27:45 banks actually have that; there've been some cases when the tellers actually try to stop the transaction and explain the person that this amount of money is suspicious, or ask them what is this for to try and assist them, but if you as the owner of your account insist to withdraw that money they can't do anything else more than give you advise.

Unfortunately because of federal regulation they can not withhold money from their clients for any reason. What's really sad about these situations is the phycological warfare going on during these interaction. These people getting scammed are truly convinced this is real, to the point of aggression. There is actually an easy way to stop this, but the phone companies make to much money allowing it, so it won't happen. Give the option to block calls from incoming calls that the caller-id doesn't match the actual source number. All incoming calls to a company have essentially metadata. This is source information, flags like caller-id block, caller-id etc. This is especially easier now versus 10 or 20 years ago since almost all carrier traffic is SIP based anymore. These companies spoof caller-id often of local known numbers and that is why they get through and blocking numbers doesn't work. Most phone systems actually have options like this built in, they just aren't used. The catch is phone companies turn around and can bill incoming carriers for calls they deliver from their systems. So Verizon is making millions billing the phone company in India that is sending the calls.
@Tijuanabill
@Tijuanabill 2 года назад
So much this. Only let real phones on the phone lines. If Twitter can verify, then so can the phone companies. It should just be that you can't fake your number...it has to be real. It can't be that hard. Also, these people aren't very smart, sometimes it says it me calling me. Surely that can't help their cause.

Most banks do have systems in place that will alert both the bank and the account holder when an unusual amount is removed from the account, or if said amount is transferred or withdrawn from unusual locations or sources. The issue there, though, is that a lot of times the account holder has to actually manually activate these systems in their account, which isn’t gonna be done very often by elderly with no knowledge or experience with such technology.

I was tempted to grab the phone out of her hand shout some insults and hang off, but instead i just made her hang up. But it didn't end there, they called her like 4 times. She had to block the number, then she got called by a new number, and another new one. She had to block 4 numbers in the end just to end it. Kinda shows you how fucking desperate they are to get some money out of you

These scammers make my life hell as well. I work for the enrollment dept of one of the largest Medicare Advantage companies in the U.S. and so often these ppl think I'm fraud because of these terrible people. If you or someone you know is in Medicare here's some tips, a. Ask me to prove myself. I will not be offended, in fact I LOVE these people because you are protecting yourself as you should be and not blindly accepting. Things you can ask me are for the Application Tracking Number, also called ATN or Confirmation number. (You will also need to be sure you gather this information from your broker to ensure mine matches yours.) The only people who will have this information are the people handling your application and this number is totally random with multiple possible formats. I can also tell you who your broker was (but will need a moment to pull that up as only paper applications may have the agents name written on it, and even that's not for sure. They ask will have the agents NPN or national producer number though, so I can look this up if you give me a moment.) I know the instinct is to hang up if I can't immediately answer but that just hurts yourself because I'm at the mercy of a database and if they are updating it, it could be slow at that moment. I CANNOT validate my identity by telling you your date of birth, address, or anything ride about yourself. I can see it sure, but let's say I mis-dialed and called the wrong #, I would then be providing your protected information to a stranger and risking your identity be stolen, which I'm not willing to do. You do have the option of calling in yourself, but then your going to get a general customer service rep who will not be a knowledgeable about your issue as I am, especially if the issue is special enrollment periods or medicaid benefits. Before you fault them, those poor folks have to be helpful on far too many topics, claims, billing, enrollment, benefit coverage, demographic updates, provider listing, and 10,000 more topics. They are jacks of all trades but masters of none, whereas all I do all day every day is call people and resolve enrollment issues so I am a master of my corner of the Medicare universe Also, be patient and not offended in the occasions we do call on a weekend. Weekends calls do not equal fraud, they equal we are in a busy enrollment period and I'm working EVERY DAY, ALL DAY to ensure you or your loved one has coverage when you need it, and try to get to you in time to submit a correction if needed. Before you tell at me for calling during dinner please understand I'm surviving on junk working hour 15 of my shift today and have 4 months more of the same in front of me. Sorry your dinner is interrupted but I haven't seen my nephews or eaten a proper meal in months, all to help YOU. Same with calling on the weekends. We don't work weekends unless it's a busy enrolment period like AEP, just be glad I'm calling you in time to resolve an issue before AEP ends and you lose your chance to apply for a plan your eligible for. Between October and April, be wary, ask questions, but also please be nice to your enrollment reps, until Medicare changes their system it sucks for all of us.

Totally unrelated to the most of the video but when Asmon mentions being 44/45 in halo 2 that is more impressive than you may think if you weren't around in those days. Anything past 40 you were going to frequently encounter modders or people forcing host and then lag switching making the game unplayable for anyone but the host and his friends (was done thru firewall rules or some shit i forget, it was a p2p game). I could remember grinding team snipers alllll night and we'd only get maybe 4-5 fair matches. It got to the point i learned how to force host to myself but then not use it to cheat , just to avoid cheaters having host in the match so yeah gigachad lil halo asmon

He deff wasn't 44-45 in Playlists that had the DLC maps. And that was probably one Playlist, if any near the end. Once you hit level 39, you had to either Bridge for Host or pray you didn't get a DLC map, because you WILL be modded against and you will lose your level. I was a Halo 2 addict with 1000s of hours in the game from 2004-2007. Hell the forums have historical proof that Asmon and many others never saw 44-45, hell if he was level 44-45 he'd have called them by the emblem name. As there wasn't a level 44. It was a Moon if I can recall. Just a bad liar Asmon is.
