the interest in the game always spikes at every expansion. he isnt wrong. its just that every time it spikes, ppl quickly realise that nothing has changed, same dogshit systems, in different skin. if and i say IF blizzard would release an expansion that is at least half decent gameplay wise, it would be able to keep player interest.

But that's because I spent that entire expac leveling alts to farm garrison gold to get the TCG mounts and also farming other rep mounts and rare drop mounts and stuff. I actually liked Legion aside from the dogshit ass legendary system early on that they fixed. But BFA was the first time that I've ever gone more than 2 weeks without playing. I played for about 1 patch and couldn't do it. I hated Azerite gear so much. Then I come back to Shadowlands to more disrespect when it comes to my time. So fuck em, I'm done.

Agreed. It isn't that my goodwill and trust in Blizzard has gone from ultra-high to neutral. That would be where I was after D3 and Cataclysm/MoP. They've been digging straight down deep into the negatives, where I distrust everything they say by default and need rock solid proof that their game and actions aren't garbage.

He said what he said that's just because this is his first time quitting. He just need to do go back a few time more until he quit for good, because that was my experience with wow bfa and then shadowland.

Guys. As of June 2019 (last time he checked), Asmongold had 32000 (32 thousand) hours in WoW. That is almost 4 years of total time spent in front of the game. He also has extreme anxiety anytime anything changes in his life (he likes comforting routines), which is something that Mcconnell has mocked him for. All I am saying is that Asmon is coping extremely hard and has only spent 1 month away from WoW now, after his whole LIFE was 24/7 WoW. You cannot expect such a person to instantly accept that they have wasted all that time in WoW on a terrible game that they only played because of addiction, semi-autistic habit and sadness. It may take Asmon a long time to drop WoW if he ever does. Because he will feel major "sunk cost" anxiety. Wow was his LIFE. Literally the only thing he did with his life. Separation anxiety will be extreme in this one.

But I really hope this is what finally breaks him free from his addiction and let's him relax and enjoy other things in life.

it is normal for people to try the new expansion AND enjoying it. getting players back is not hard at all. but it is an art to keep em. and if things go on like this history will repeat itself.

I quit not because Shadowlands is trash, I was a roleplayer I made my own fun, but because I was sick of Blizzard's seeming resentment to the community. The lawsuit was just further vindication in burning the bridge.

@@Chopin124 I would have agreed with you twenty years ago, but observing other writers at work and the results of certain writing teams have convinced me that there's a cut off range at which point a writer consistently fails to ask the necessary questions while doing research and brainstorming.

And as Blizzard has shown, they can AND WILL make you do all the work again as soon as the next patch for player retention.

True. I mained warrior but wanted to try out some rogue gameplay. Got halfway leveled before I just quit. Meanwhile in FFXIV I can change to any class at the click of a button.

It is mind-blowing that they create the covenant system, and then both make it so that switching them is such a fucking pain in the ass (and doesn't make sense narratively) and that most specs have one (or at best two) specific choices that are good, with the others being shit. It's so weird they create new gameplay systems and they don't want people freely switching between them and experiencing the systems they spent time creating by timegating it behind dumb shit. They literally make content, and then discourage people from exploring all that they have created (and yes, I know there are probably developers and concept artists and game designers working on WoW that are also disappointed to see this, but still) by chasing after metrics instead. On top of that, if you do have multiple viable covenant choices or want to multi-spec, you sometimes have to sacrifice something (like mobility) by switching for better damage (such as going from Night Fae or Venthyr to Necrolord or Kyrian, for example), and even if you grind up renown for a specific covenant, you lose the sense of ownership and accomplishment immediately as soon as you have to switch to a more meta covenant (or want to play another spec, in some cases), because switching back to the covenant requires a fuckin' timegated switch-back quest. Make covenants freely swappable, or, hell, let us choose a "base of operations", and let us pick which covenant abilities we want (where we could mix and match, such as being Kyrian but keeping Soulshape). If you want to increase some bullshit engagement metric, put some kind of a requirement behind every covenant before you can freely use their abilities or something. THE most fuckin' ridiculous thing about WoW is that core progression is timegated this hard. The game has a monthly subscription fee, and their method of getting people to stay subbed is to just keep them waiting for basic fuckin' gameplay systems to become available for them to be able to have more fun and/or be more competitive in the content they create...rather than just...creating content that players will enjoy and want to re-visit, potentially adding excitement for future runs through covenant ability combo mix-and-matching etc, not through just waiting. A big part of the problem of WoW is this timegating, when the "grind" they should lean on more is just that: something stuck behind either effort or input. Having Torghast give infinite anima (at a lesser amount of subsequent runs) was a step in the right direction, in my opinion, but really not enough (especially for something as unrewarding and pointless in general as Torghast is). I think an MMO, by its nature, requires grinding (especially for those that wish to be competitive), but it's dumb of them to lock the content they themselves made FOR the players to be behind timegates. Gear, I get. More numbers on a damage meter doesn't particularly alter gameplay or how one plays their character, but stop locking us out of easily-accessed VARIETY, Blizzard, for fuck's sake. tl;dr: Pretty much what you said, yeah; just wanted to rant a bit too. :^)

Yeah man. If that’s the case I quit a long ass time ago. Last expansion I played through would be Wrath. Starting with Cata I quit the game for several months at a time to play other things. I would play during launch for first couple months. Then quit for 3-9 months or so. Then come back when all the systems and patches were in place to skip all the BS gimmicks.

Exactly what happened to me…

I'd go as far as to say noone was fooled by the "LK gets his a*s beat by the Simp Queen" cinematic trailer for SL. I was more hyped after the Afterlives: Bastion cinematic than the official expac trailer.

Diablo 2 Resurrected cinematics look dope as hell though :) But I can watch those on RU-vid - the gameplay is the same it was 20 years ago. I'll do fine without it.

Absolutely, cuts to other streams to get some extra audio in or provide context is great. The volume of work here is huge and the editors are doing a great job!

Because Blizzard is obsessed with unnecessary systems, and the Horde an Alliance has been a nonsense one from the game's inception. And they've been drinking this kool-aid for YEARS. To the point where they actively insult the Alliance. Can you imagine if Square Enix said fuck catgirls, or Riot said top laners are mouth breathers, or something like that?

They couldn't sell faction transfers if there was no factions 😉 BTW in case you didn't notice every 2 years they change racials to make horde or alliance more attractive to incentivise buying a faction swap.

I mean, he only plays WoW, only plays warrior, 60% of his streams are arena/bgs, 30% weightlifting and 10% other WoW things. Baj is a great guy, but his content is one dimensional and I personally got bored with it a long time ago.

Well people seem to be exited about D2 now. It wouldnt surprise me if they get hyped for next wow xpac again.

Look at Asmongolds D2R Cinematic reaction and how hyped he and his chat was, people dont actually care about the Sexual harrassment or the abuse going at Blizzard as soon as the new shiny thing gets announced people easily forget. Asmongold is 100% correct when he said that a gamers boycott only lasts until the next new cinematic gets released

@@nakki123 diablo 1 and 2 was my main jam in middle school and high school. The cinematics look great, but unless I see that hardcore pvp mode I'm not playing. Asmongold will probably play it a few solid months and drop it. I played the originals for years. Diablo 3 failure was an end of an era for me and many of my friends. Sure we were replaced as the target audience, but then again it seems the target audience are people with expendable incomes and short attention spans.

@@nakki123 I'm excited for D2, but I'm gonna freaking pirate it. Screw Blizzard, In no way I'm giving them my money anymore. Played tons and tons of OW, D3, SC and SC2 over the years, never got into WoW but with the recent stuff, I can surely say, screw them.

Not to mention that if you wanted to play a character optimally in Shadowlands you had such a HUGE grind ahead of you. Literally having to learn another class or spec, but also getting hundreds of thousands of gold for the legendary, CHOREGHAST, grinding dungeons/rating for gear, having to grind dungeons as a pvper to get conduits/legendary memories, janky raider io system, fighting against pvp boosters, pugging mythic dungeons/raids/rated pvp is a shit show, and waiting for hours for an alright tank just to play a couple decent matches of rated battlegrounds. This is the most alt unfriendly expansion we have ever had. And they never listened to the community to make it better, like adding a solo queue to rated pvp, or reducing the grind on these end game systems. And what do they do next patch? The same. Damn. Thing. I'm done with this game wasting my time.

SL is a bag of shit.

Ya I'm not sure how he can say that when it contradicts what he just said. SL's gearing system is designed to have you slowly gear up over months. You can't just grind out content and get max ilvl gear in a week or something. It also still has something close to an infinite grind with the conduit upgrades.

@@deenman23 I think it's different people complaining. I thought titanforging was a decent system. It's good to have rarer loot like +10 ilvl loot so that people have a reason to rerun raids and stuff after they have the common drops. That said, I think a better system would be to have a few rarer items on each boss but titanforging is less work for blizzard.

Same, Legion was about the point where I was starting to wrap up. I tried BfA once, went “that was a mistake”, took one look at Shadowlands and decided I wasn’t falling for that again.

shadowlands is literally the first xpack i've never tried. even for TBC, Pandaria, and WoD I came in the end to check things out because it was on sale. BfA got me to turn away forever.

Meanwhile they're on their iphone, wearing Nike shoes, drinking a starbucks and trying NOT to look like massive hypocrites in the process. I play wow for mythic raiding, which is still very solid, and with the exception of 1-2 fights (Guardian and Sylvanas in particular) have actually been quite enjoyable to progress on. If people don't want to keep playing they're welcome to make that choice but stop trying to tell people what they should or shouldn't do with their own money.

I will add that an established well recognized I.P like warcraft/wow will never go away even if everyone stops playing wow. It seems that FF14 and GW2 are going to crush it on the foreseeable future with their expansions, and New World if it's good on release.

There is also no Avengers against this Thanos. Nobody has personal connection to him at all, except Sylvanas, but that was completely added later, and being hidden. That and everyone is sick of her. If she would have permadied in that goddamn raid alongside Garrosh, many players would have rejoiced. The jacky LEADERS of Azeroth who have been kidnapped did nothing all expansion, and neither did Bolvar.
