Many old houses and mansions have these hidden passages and stairs, they were made so that service personnel could move around the house without being seen, because using the same spaces as their masters was frowned upon.
I do know but I find it so insane to me that you need to hide them. And to put the service stair right next to the main stair just baffles me. I am just not rich enough to understand this logic 😂
@@JubileeWhispersif they are holding a party or guests are going through the house it makes sense not to crowd the passage ways. They were more like staff at banquet hall/ party/ concert they tend to use back rooms so they dont spill stuff or have to squeeze by the guests
Hi! Irish person who has visited Loftus Hall many times here. The history of the house is CRAZY. The card room, the hole in the ceiling, is supposedly where the Devil shot up through the ceiling. Thought they tried to repair it, it always broke in the same spot. The staircase is so iconic as it is the exact same as the stairs of the Titanic, made by the same men, and they are the only replicas still around. The mosaic tile flooring was created by two Italian men, who had their hands chopped off by the owners of the house, as they did not want anyone else to have the luxuries their house had. And the eeriness of the tapestry room... the daughter of the house went mad after seeing the devils feet (hooves) in the card room before he shot up through the ceiling, and she killed her baby and hid it inside the walls, which was found by people who bought the house. There were many blessings of the house and statues of Jesus scattered in every room, but their heads were chopped off, with rosary beads vanishing, and priests couldn't understand it. Lady Anne, the daughter, then died and is supposedly spotted as a ghost around Loftus Hall. From what I know, you were able to do tours in the night to experience the hauntings, but I don't think they do that anymore. Thank you for checking out parts of Ireland!!!
in the first house, the two staircases to the same place is because those older victorians had two different staircases for maids/servants/slaves to use. those staircases were a lot smaller and more dangerous to walk up and have a lot less light
Yaaay, I love the spooky Saturday series! I am so happy you mentioned Loftus Hall! It actually was a very popular tourist location, but I think it's been closed off to the public, unfortunately. I highly recommend everyone go read about it because it's got some great spooky history! 👻 💖
It looks like first house had mostly 60s or 70s decor (except for the wood panelling that may be older?) that hasnt been updated. Maybe an old couple lived there who used to have a family back then . I kind of like the weird quirky decor . Could shoot a horror movie there
The Elgin, IL house was creepy af. The sunroom with the doll made me shiver. Also on the 2nd floor they had a mirrors in both ends of the hallways. That creeps me out so much.
This video could easily include that giant house from the home tour video full of creepy basements, attics, endless hallways and the odd wallpaper all over
Spooky Saturdays! Dunno how much you've got planned already but I'd love it if you could read some more of ''The previous tenant of my new flat left a survival guide'' this year ❤
My grandma's place is just full of extremely old furniture, art and randomly a bunch of chinese stuff (my grandpa was a collector of everything valuable I suppose) so I rarely perceive old and antique places as creepy. But some of the rooms give me the shivers
The Florida house was catching my attention, but gave me MAJOR Haunted vibes...I would stay there, but...I would definitely have my guard up, not gonna lie Edit: The Ireland house and the "cute-looking" green Cottage with the frightening basement are going to be giving me serious nightmares!!!!! Second edit: When I lived in Oregon, I would ALWAYS love going to Pittock Mansion either walking around the grounds outside or taking the tours inside
I think in that first house, the little secret stairs and such are probably for maids and service workers. In a house that big, you likely have nannies or other employees. It also looks like its set up for people to be someonewhat self contained. Was it a hotel or retirement home?
This !! My aunt used to have ‘service stairs’ in her house too never knew the reason until I found out it was to keep them out of sight and out of the way basically.
As a building surveyor we use those scanners to capture a lot of buildings internals, elevations & topos and for a full colour scan it’s 5-10 mins depending on the resolution, so I cannot imaaaagine having to spend that long on all of those different set ups around the Ireland house. I would not survive 😅
Canada and florida just gave me weird old millionaire vibes honestly! Also realized my house has one of those creepy doors and it's on the same floor as my bedroom 🥲 I grew up near Elgin and I'm not surprised to see a haunted house like this at all! I think the most authentically haunted house of the bunch!
Wow, that's crazy that there's more than one of you from near Elgin!! You guys are neighbors :) hahaha I hope I didn't creep you out too much about the door, sorryyyyy
@@JubileeWhispers i actually have a box in front of the door because I've been paranoid about it since we've moved in 😅 mine is actually creepy inside too!
my last apartment had a carpeted bathroom and however bad you think having a carpeted bathroom would be, it's worse and somehow that was the least of that place's problems
Yay, another house touring video and it’s Halloween themed, so interesting 😮. The first two while definitely creepy wasn’t too bad I’d give them a 4/5 out of 10 on the haunt factor..the rest of the houses though 9/10 out of 10 sooo creepy definitely haunted would not set foot in those even if you paid me
Omg I’m so close to Elgin! Wild to see a house that close to me haha. I’m so excited to finish watching this and for the rest of Spooky Saturday season!! 👻🎃 PS it’s actually pronounced el-jin 😜
the way she talked about the little tiny doors in the first house made me think of a rumor in my middle school that a little man would come out of a little door in the last stall of one of the 8th grade wing bathrooms that scared me SO BAD
the two staircases and weird attic is because it's an old victorian so the weird extra stairs would be servants stairs and the attic is refinished but was probably servants quarters so, weird little spaces, nooks and low ceilings aren't too crazy
Awesome video!! The carpeted bathroom should be a crime 😭 i don’t understand how people could live in these houses 😭 especially the 3rd one, biggest red flags 😬
Actually this is not the house where they filmed the Conjuring, but it is the real house in which the hauntings occurred in real life! It’s my absolute favorite haunted house ever and way creepier than the one they used for the movie.
I love your dress. The first house has some nice little reading nooks tbh, the design isn't great tho, it's so inconsistent, I really don't like that, aside from private bedrooms which is okay because people have different tastes and all. The second house seems to have an eclectic style, but it all kind of fits together When I was living in Spain, we went to see a way more modern duplex house where one of the rooms had one of those creepy little doors like the one in the first house, and we noped out of there because none of us wanted to stay in that bedroom 😶 Loftus Hall seems to look like a "classic" sort of haunted house, quite beautiful, and I'm pretty sure there's a really old famous picture of a supposed ghost in those stairs. Yep, I'm not going to sleep tonight 🎢 long hallways scare tf out of me and that mirror at the end of the hallway in one of the houses is a big nope. The Overholser mansion hallway is really beautiful tbh, kind of art deco-ish, I like it ☺️ And it's so funny what you said about one of the houses, lol not to be judgy, but it's so weird to me when couples live in the same house and sleep in separate beds, it's one thing to have separate activity rooms like an office or wtv, but I wouldn't be comfortable with those sleeping arrangements, I like to cuddle... but to each their own, I don't think I've ever met anyone irl who did/does that.
Thank you! I totally agree about the reading nooks, a good reading nook is an absolutely amazing addition to a home. And yeah, the separate bedrooms definitely dates back to a time when marriages were more of a business transaction than two people actually liking each other! I'm glad we've progressed from there haha :)
Loftus hall has been sold and done up into a hotel now :) it’s not finished yet. I have been a few times to paranormal lockdowns over the years..defo very creepy!
Oh wow I hated the first house I would not live there 😂 especially when there's black mould gross! It looked so weird. I have to be in a modern house lol. Really enjoyed watching you make me laugh about hating carpets, I don't blame you! 😂
The creepy Canadian one, the kitchen, does it have carpet?! Jesus Christ that is heinous. I should know because the ahole that claimed to be my father (he was horrible for more important reasons, not because he thought carpet was okay to have in the kitchen and bathroom) allowed the kitchen AND bathroom to be carpeted. Yeah. No joke I viscerally HATE carpet for those reasons alone aside from a major hassle to keep clean and it holds allergens easily. A rug, sure. But carpet, especially in places they shouldn't be, no. As long as I live no carpets please uggggh. Great video btw! Love your outfit and I feel like I should start on exploring houses like this. Depression kicks my ass among other problems and this is rather monotonous but engaging. Be safe yall and happy spoop month 🎃🕸🦇 I just came to the part if the video where I have discovered she said there is carpet in the bloody bathroom. Why. Who thinks that's sanitary?! Burn it. Just burn it. (Obviously that's just hyperbolic, just take the damn carpet out there AT LEAST)
Carpets are the worst. I have a rug in my bedroom and I'm tired of it, only keep it because my dog is scared of hardwood floors and I want her to be able to come cuddle with me without any issues 😪
you can't pay me enough to stay in that irish house. when i looked it up it said that the house opened in 1350, so it may have been the mansion of a prominent person or family.
So I just have to ask, what exactly beings you if uneasiness or an eerie sense of East-Asian and African cultural design and objects? Genuinely curious person here! Lol. I just love to be someone of understanding of peoples perspectives.
i think it just reminds her of how often colonizers would take artifacts from colonized places and display them, almost like the spoils of war. or like how poachers have animal skins and elephant tusks. it feels stolen and sort of uncomfortable to some people. it doesn’t mean people who own that stuff are bad and stole it, it just feels offputting sometimes
