Sony MDR 7506 headphones are a staple of recording studio use thanks to a relatively flat, uncolored sound, yet for $100 headphones, they are absurdly prone to disgusting and messy flaking from the fake leather ear cups, even from casual use in non-humid environments.
An entire cottage industry of replacement cups has sprung up for this very problem, but if you're cheap and enjoy opening crinkly plastic, you can get away with using disposable microphone covers that work out to roughly 10 cents per pair in order to contain the filth.
