Love your book recs so much! I’m in the middle of Hot Milk right now and loving it, and Two Cities is fantastic. Excited to add these recs to my summer TBR. Enjoy your time in Greece!
Thanks for the recs! I’m 100 pages into “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow”. I really like all the video game references and the characters are appealing. Good stuff so far!
btw I use Blackwells to order UK editions. (I live in the US.) Shipping is free / included in the listing price, which is still around typical online book prices. It's a store in Oxford whose website ships internationally. Just adjust the currency to USD.
Yaaaaaaay, it's Mauve Monday! Love it when you give us new book recs. I'm currently reading The Three Body Problem. It's heavy, but a fantastic read nonetheless. Thank you for the video!
Yayyyy!! Finally Finally After a Long Long time Mauve is back with a another new ASMR video and I really really missed your videos a lot and I wish you have a blessed week ahead ❣️❣️❤
Tove Jansson is, like, my favorite person in the whole world. Her little island was really close by to a cottage I used to spend my summers in and many of her (for adults) novels and short stories are set in similar places. I hope you enjoy The Summer Book as much as I do. ☀️
Natalia Ginzburg is truly one of the GOATs-I have the joint NYRB Classics edition of Valentino and Sagittarius, but I’m so jealous of those gorgeous Daunt copies!
Your previous summer book recs video was the first video of yours that I stumbled upon and I loved that video so much that I instantly subscribed. Thanks for making another one! I'm currently reading Second Place by Rachel Cusk and im really enjoying it so far💙
Hello Mauve, "The Colossus of Marussi" is one of my favorite books. I love Greece (and the Greek people). You can feel the warm caress of the sun on your skin through these beautiful pages by Henry Miller. Somehow, Miller was regenerated by Greece. If you haven’t read Nikos Kazantzakis yet, I highly recommend you "Freedom and Death". Kazantzakis is certainly one of the greatest Greek writers of the 20th century. I wish you a good trip to Greece: it is really a country that has the power to change those who discover it. There is clearly a before and after. Thank you very much for this new video! 💛🙏🏻
@@MauveASMR You’re welcome! I’m sure you will love the book by Henry Miller & also the one by Kazantzakis, which tells a crucial part of the history of Crete to conquer its independence against the Ottoman Empire. I wish you a nice reading and a wonderful trip! 💛 🇬🇷
OMG!! Three Summers is my favorite book of all time (at least it is rn)! Also this is so random but I credit you with kickstarting my interest in “lesser known” books when you recommended Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead in one of your videos years ago.
Having grown up in a bookstore, that is what my parents did, I appreciate your eclectic taste. I’ve put some of your recommendations on my list. May I recommend Land of Milk and Honey by C Pam Zhang. 🙏🇨🇦
Love seeing Bonjour Tristesse on your list - it's already been made into a film in 1958, so it has that 'old school' feel to it - stars David Niven and Deborah Kerr. Copies are still available on dvd :)
Have you seen the tote bags from daunt books? They are so so nice! I have two just in case. I hope you have a lovely time in Greece! My recent book haul: the country will bring us no peace, reptile memoirs, crooked plow, Greek lessons, not a river, study for obedience, the marriage of Cadmus and Harmony, the devil's flute murders, visitation... Several more actually... Zero willpower to pass up the recommendations when I'm in Blackwell's 😊
@@MauveASMR oh great! I have heard good things about another book of hers shortly after buying visitation so that bodes well. I shall try to reply somewhere appropriate when I've read Greek lessons! By the way I don't know if you've seen his work but I saw broker and monster by Hirokazu Koreeda and thought they were such beautiful films! I thought I'd mention them to you in case. x
I stumbled across Sagittarius in a book store the other day (that specific cover too, it's soo nice) and bought it on a whim! I just finished Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan Quartet (destroyed me) and have heard that Ginzburg is the next best author to read, even though I guess she's the OG lmaoo
I lost my set of Neapolitan novels trying to send them in the mail (did I mention it in this video? I forget but I feel I'm always mentioning it lol because people are always like "lost how??") and have been aiming to buy them again, hopefully sooner rather than later! I just love them in the summer. Also yes, I'm on a big big Ginzburg kick right now, she is just phenomenal 💜
Hi mauve I love ur book recs. You’re such an inspiration to me & part of the reason i started writing. I hope i can publish something you’ll one day read. For the time being I’d love to recommend you bad behavior by Mary gaitskill and the mezzanine by Nicholas baker. Have a wonderful night/day❤
Wow what a compliment! Thank you very much for sharing that with me. I've read Bad Behavior but not The Mezzanine -- I need to check it out soon! Thank you for the good recs 💜💜
three summers is top tier such a good book! have you read the last supper by rachel cusk about summer in italy? it is such a perfect novel for the summer season! also would you do a summer movie recs? Enjoy Greece it is indeed beautiful over there!
Adding to my list -- thank you! I haven't been watching many movies lately due to some other things in life right now but it's on my mind, and I hope to do something like that soon! 😊
Hello Mauve! I think you could really love a book I just finished few minutes ago. It's "In the Country of Last Things" by Paul Auster: I can't compare it to anything I read in the past, and that says a lot! I hope you're doing great & I send you lots of beautiful thoughts. 💛🙏🏻
